Main Theme
It’s easier to integrate the human hand into the
development of computer interfaces than it is to try to
replicate it’s complexity with haptic technology
![Page 3: The Living Anatomy Program David A. Fineberg, MD.](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062322/56649d7f5503460f94a62fbe/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Project Goals
• Reproduce the experience of being in the operating room by developing advanced computer interfaces for teaching human anatomy and surgical techniques
![Page 4: The Living Anatomy Program David A. Fineberg, MD.](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062322/56649d7f5503460f94a62fbe/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
How do we achieve this?
• Utilize the complex sensory abilities of the human hand as an interface component
• Create anatomic structures with tactile qualities similar to in-vivo human structures
• Interface these structures to the computer via position sensors
• Build a visual environment around it• Link motion of physical and virtual objects so
they are synchronized in real time

How does an organ feel?It doesn’t feel like this!
