Simon Donato, PhDAmbitious, competitive and possessing a dry wit, Simon is the brains and driving force behind the duo. With a PhD in geology, he has travelled extensively to race and explore the planet. A self-proclaimed nomad, Simon put all of his belongings in storage to live out of a truck while competing around the globe. When not testing the limits of his body, he’s a geologist who also runs an oatmeal company. When asked about his motivation to reach the finish line, his response was “An ice-cold beer.”

Paul “Turbo” TrebilcockA loveable self-confessed minimalist raised in the back of a VW mini-van, Turbo is the heart behind the duo. He is as genuine as they come, and a strong athlete with a background in ultra-run-ning, rock climbing, and mountain biking. He credits his younger partying years for his addiction to adrenaline. His hometown’s first bike courier in the 1980s, Turbo is now a carpenter and is raising two teenage girls with his wife. His favorite running partner is his dog Greta.

Cheques take approximately ten days to process.

• Or a credit (less a $5.00 transaction fee) will be applied to your account in our database which can be used for future City operated programs.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE 2014 WINNERS!SURF! Youth Body Board: 1st Alex Bjornson, 2nd Jacob Armstrong, 3rd Bailey Colley. Youth Surf: 1st Cali Johnson, 2nd Kade Cox, 3rd Talon Chorney. Adult Surf: 1st Nathan Edgar, 2nd Jamie Walker, 3rd Christopher Lajeunesse.

SKATE! Age 5 – 9 years: 1st Jacob Lange, 2nd Becker Olson, 3rd Mason Dunbar. Age 10 – 15 years: 1st Carter Smith, 2nd Josh Lebrun, 3rd Jack McDouge. 16+: 1st Chris Golden, 2nd Mark Nylolayden, 3rd Keyton Bjohchanel.

This year was the first ever Skate Surf Shred party and competition at the Eastlink Centre. We are proud to say that it was a huge success and was just all in all an AWESOME day spent with the community.

The competition featured all ages of skateboarders, scooter riders and 2day FM FlowRider surfers. The crowd was entertained by 55 competitors who all totally killed the park and the wave showing off their skills. It is estimated that around 2000 people walked through the event throughout the day. It is thanks to many volunteers and sponsors that we could accommodate this amount of people out at our event.

Not only did our talented locals hit the pavement but a massive team of pro skaters came too! Courtesy of S3 skate shop, a group of big name skaters were here showing off in demos, signing skate-boards, handing out prizes and hanging out with the kids!

SExercise can be a real challenge for some individuals suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Symptoms such as weak-ness, numbness and balance issues can make physical activity on land, difficult. The Water, has unique properties, such as buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure and resistance, allows individuals to move more freely and without the worry of in-juries due to falls. As a result, individuals participating in Aqua fitness, can achieve a range of fitness benefits.

Multiple Sclerosis sufferers, enrolled in TAP Movement have experienced posi-tive outcomes. Improvements in areas of flexibility, range of motion, endurance fatigue level, strength, mobility balance and quality of life have been reported. These improvements inspired Tanja Rakic, former South Peace Chapter Co-ordinator to approach Eastlink Centre’s TAP Movement Program to set up a MS specific aqua program. A generous dona-tion from Pat’s Auto raised during their July 26 Golf Tournament provided fund-

ing for this initiative. MS Moves H2O was created and started in September. Twelve individuals attended MS Moves H2O group sessions and six individuals attended MS Moves H2O one-on-one

sessions in this 10 week program. MS Moves H2O Group Session met in the Lazy River. Utilizing the river currents, a variety of exercises and equipment use was introduced to challenge partici-pant’s balance, coordination, posture, and improve their strength and mobility.

MS Moves H2O One on One was tai-lored to the individuals who needed as-sistance. Mobility, balance strength and flexibility exercises were incorporated in these 30 minute sessions. WATSU techniques, which uses slow gentle rotational movements in the water, stretched tight and restricted muscles resulting in pain and stress relief as well as relaxation.

MS Moves H2O has been a success! Plans are to offer the program in January 2015 and if interest arises, will expand to include individuals suffering from other neurological conditions. MS Moves H2O group session will run on Monday and Wednesday at 11:00am. Individuals interested in participating in the group session will need to complete an intake form.

Contact Eastlink Centre today, if you are interested in joining in.

I have made several noticeable gains since starting the class. My balance has improved; I can now stand longer without holding onto objects for support. I look forward to this program. I regard it as my lifeline to maintaining independence. The program keeps my spirit up as I celebrate improvements in strength and am motivated to continue on.

~ Marian Boyd

Watsu has been a very positive experience. With the help of the MS society and my practitioner Sandi Watson at the Eastlink Center I notice a relief in stiffness. Core strength is increasing to help with my balance. I have gone from being wheeled into the warm pool to walking out. Having my body stretched and pulled under the water brings back a sense of movement enjoyed as a former skater and once active person. Watsu is very relaxing and refreshing!

~ C.B.

MS Moves has sure made my legs feel better making it easier to walk. I have really bad stiffness - not only in my legs but in my entire body. I noticed in the water, my legs bend much easier. While walking around in the river, my legs were bend-ing at the knees. I really like the exercises that work on balance. Meeting others with MS has been inspirational - we can learn from each other.

~ J.O.

I find this exercise has been very helpful for me. I have been using this program for one and a half year now. I know it is beneficial because when I have been away on vacation my body is much worse. I would highly recom-mend it for anyone suffering from MS. I find the time in the water has been helping me to the degree that when I started I was using a cane and now I have been cane free.

~ Patricia Dingeldein

The MS Moves H2O in the river has helped me with posture and walk-ing. It has made me aware of my abilities and weakness. Being aware of what I am able to do will help me prevent injuries and enable me to strengthen the muscles that work.

to help someone experiencing a medical emergency. Taking a Red Cross First Aid course will teach you the skills you need to feel confident in your ability to step in and help

someone in a medical emergency. With skills comes the confidence to save a life.

Lake, The Leisure Centre and The Outdoor Pool. I’ve also worn a few different hats here at the Eastlink Centre where I started as an Aquatic Coor-dinator and now have found myself in a Supervisory role. All this really means is that I love the pool and the people here.

I was never a really big swimmer as a kid but

through a series of strange events I became a LifeGuard,

which can only be defined as an awe-some accident. It’s just one of those things that is so much better than what-ever I could have planned. After living in Aquatics for over a dozen years though,

meet those familiar facesaround the

Tim here. You might recognize me if you’ve come swimming in Grande Prairie in the last 13 years. I’ve done it all. As a LifeGuard I worked at Bear

it’s pretty much my home. I guess that’s why I have such a heart to share it with people in our community. I want to make sure everyone else gets the same opportunity I did for a “life changing accident.” Because at the end of the day I can’t think of a better life than one where we get to have an impact, and the Eastlink Centre puts us right in the middle of Grande Prairie’s great com-munity.

So, enjoy yourself and make an impact on those around you, they’re worth it. Oh, and if you’re swimming sometime in the next 13 years feel free to stop by and pay me a visit. I’ll probably be here since there’s no place I’d rather be.

Why hello! My name is Britta-ny. I am a Grande Prairie born and raised community member. Although I moved away for a bit, this wonderful community always brings me back home.

I have worked for the City of Grande Prairie for the last year and absolutely love working in the Marketing Depart-ment where I get to work on fun projects like Community Connections! This is a terrific fit for me as I volunteer on many organizations in the community starting a young age. Some examples of where I enjoy giving my time is the Sunrise House (Big Hearts for Big Kids), the Council for Lifelong Learning, Festival of Trees and many more! I love giving back to the com-munity and get so much joy in watching others achieve their goals or just providing a helping hand. I also enjoy sports, travel-

ling, culture, cooking, the outdoors, learning and spending time with my family and friends.

Currently I work two jobs, volunteer and go to school by correspon-dence, I have a short attention span so I like to be involved in many things. Some-thing you may not know about me is that I recently got a tattoo which reads “ineffable” on my foot. This is my favorite word as it means ‘incapable of being expressed or described in words as it is too great or amazing’. “Hmmmm, what else can I say to make you like me?” - Raj from the Big Bang Theory. (Side note: I love quotes

and silly humour;) I feel very luck for the opportunities I have received and look forward for the opportunity that present themselves everyday. I hope to see you around the Eastlink Centre or out in our wonderful community! Toodles.
