Consecration to the Holy Family Prayer Cards On Sunday, December 31st, New Year’s Eve, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family. This year the Knights of Columbus will be at the Masses at Holy Ghost over that weekend to offer Consecration to the Holy Family prayer cards. These prayers will be used by the celebrant during the Mass, prior to the final blessing. It is hoped that all families may use this time to come together to consecrate themselves under the protection of the Holy Family for the coming year.

GIVE THE GIFT OF HOPE ***ATTENTION Family and Friends of the Light of

Christ Catholic Collaborative*** The Health and Wellness Committee has been meeting for several months for the development of a healing garden in accordance with Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment. We anticipate this will be a beautiful place of prayer, meditation and peace. We believe that this garden will bring healing to the broken hearted by sharing God’s beautiful botanical creations with the collaborative and surrounding communities. Please pray and ask if God is calling you to give your time, gifts and talents. We are asking anyone interested in being involved with this beautiful project to call Christopher McDonald at (617) 548-2024 (leave message-he will return the call)

*We seek an immediate need for Professional Garden Designer*

Thank you to all who contributed in bringing the Spirit of Christmas to those who are homeless. We would especially like to thank the many CCD students, CYO members, and their families who volunteered their time to wrap the tremendous number of gifts we received. We couldn’t have done it without you! We wish all of our fellow parishioners joy and many blessings in the New Year

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, I wish to share words of Gratitude to all who made our Christmas Liturgies on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so beautiful. The later Masses on Christmas morning were as bit light due to the sudden snow fall. Thanks to all who decorated our Churches, those who sang and played music, those who proclaimed the Word and distributed Holy Communion, those who served, and those who ushered the many visitors to our Parishes. Thank you for all those who sent Cards and Gifts and home-baked goods and treats to the rectories. Thank you to all who gave to the Clergy Funds to help our priests. Thanks to all who gave generously to our Giving Trees and Food Pantries to assist the poor. Your generosity is a reflection of the faith given to you in Christ Jesus our Lord who was born to be our Savior and the Savior of the world. On behalf of the priests, deacons, and staff, “Thank you to one and all!!!” Happy Christmas!!! Keep wishing people a Happy or Merry Christmas. The world thinks it is over and many have already taken decorations down. We know differently. We know that this is a Season of Great Joy. On this Sunday after Christmas Day, we celebrate that unique and blessed family; the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. They are both ordinary and extraordinary. The Family of Nazareth is a model of all Christian families. Today's Gospel describes the presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple and shows Joseph and Mary as devout Jews, following the prescriptions of the Law of Moses. They were faithful individuals who did what God asked of them even though they were unsure of what the future would hold for them. They trusted and put their hope in God. While at the Temple they met up with two individuals who had something to say about the child. Simeon and Anna spoke about the child Jesus and shared with them what their future would hold. We can learn from each of the people mentioned in today’s Gospel. Through Joseph and Mary, we learn to trust and hope in the Lord, especially in the most difficult situations. They had no idea what their future would include, yet they trusted and hoped, and great blessings were given to them. Simeon and Anna, without hesitation, prayed, gave thanks to God, and started talking about this child, the Christ. We can learn from them to pray, give thanks to the Lord always and never be afraid to talk about Jesus to others and invite others into a relationship with Him. ***Attention Ushers*** Every three years the Archdiocese does an internal audit of the parishes. Thankfully, we do well with these. We have just completed the audit and will receive the report after the first of the year. They always give some suggestions, or as they call it, “best practices.” One of those “best

practices” is to have the Sunday Collection put in a tamper proof secure bag before leaving the Church to be transferred to the locked safe for counting. Mary Frances Allen was our Auditor this year for our Collaborative. She will be coming the weekends of January 6 and January 13 to instruct the Ushers on how to use the new Secure Bags that we will begin using. Thank you for your attention to this. Our Local Pastoral Plan with Disciples In Mission has us praying for Vocations. The Joint Parish Council has been working on a Prayer for Vocations that we will use within our Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative. We will begin using the newly composed Prayer for Vocations on the First Sunday of the New Year, i.e. Next Sunday. It will be attached to the Inside Front Cover of our Missals and we will begin each Sunday Mass reciting the prayer before the opening processional song. We will also be given the opportunity to welcome each other before Mass. The Prayer goes like this: Loving and Gracious God, You have called us by name and through Baptism you have sent us to continue the mission of Jesus by sharing our love with others. Give us the energy to change the future for the better by making a difference in the lives of all people. Raise up strong, faith-filled families to be leaders in your Holy Church. Bless us with your mercy and enkindle in our hearts the desire to serve you as Lay Ministers, Catechists, Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Deacons and other areas of service to our Parishes. Bless those who live their vocations as married couples, parents, the single life and religious. Give me the strength to become all that you desire of me and through your Holy Spirit, inspire me and the other members of our Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative to hear your call and serve you as you have planned. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. THIS Monday, January 1st – Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God IS a Holy Day, BUT NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year because it falls on a Monday. To accommodate as many people as possible to celebrate the Holy Day in our Collaborative, we will celebrate the Mass at 9:00 a.m. upstairs in Holy Ghost Church. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

Meet Father Cusack – Embracing his vocation, embracing God’s peopleFather Anthony Cusack grappled with his vocation as a young man. After hearing God’s call to the priesthood, he embraced a life of service to every person placed before him in ministry.

Recognizing the growing needs of ethnic communities, Father Anthony broadened his pastoral skills by learning to celebrate Mass in both Spanish and Vietnamese. This enabled him to accept his rst assignment at St. Ambrose and St. Mark Parishes in 2015.

Today, Father Anthony ministers in the heart of Dorchester. He engages the community in three very dierent languages. When summarizing his responsibilities, he describes personifying Christ: “The duty of the priest is, I think, to be Jesus to every single person he meets.”

To help ensure priests like Father Anthony receive essential care as they live out their vocation, please support the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust through the special collection this Christmas.
