As the first ever Australian to
be awarded a pilot’s certificate,
William Hart or Bill as he was
known, was born in Parramatta
in 1885 and grew up in the
area. Known as Australia’s
first aviator, in 1911 Hart
flew 76kms from this very
location in Penrith to Sydney,
via St Marys, completing the
first cross-country flight
in NSW in 55 minutes.
The original airfield that was
once here is long gone, but
today Harts Landing is where
