Lynch The Union League of Philadelphia has been governed by admirable presidents and boards for the last 150 years. Today, as the #1 City Club in the Country, we welcome a man of great character who is poised to com- plete the Master Plan while keeping tight to the bottom line and increas- ing our membership roll with qualified, like-minded individuals who will add greatly to the overwhelming success enjoyed by the membership. It is fitting that the US Navy was organized in Philadelphia in 1775 and now, Rear Admiral (retired) Thomas C. Lynch is the first League President who was a career Naval Officer. If ever a President exemplified our motto, Love of Country Leads, it is surely Tom Lynch. VICE PRESIDENTS There are five Vice Presidents who assume leadership of the five stand- ing committees. They are as follows: Stephen C. Target, Membership; Edward A. Turzanski, Foundations and Library; Casey Johnson, Activities; Gregory P. Montanaro, House and James P. Dunigan, Finance. Returning Vice President Steve Target will continue to lead the Mem- bership Committee as we steadily climb towards our goal of 3,000 Active Members with a waitlist. “As Vice President of Member Relations, I look forward to maintaining the integrity of our strong historical process of introducing and electing new members to our membership. It continues to be a strong goal of both the Ambassadors and the Admissions Commit- tees to communicate and educate our current and future membership about The Union League. We must not lose sight of our purpose to sup- port our Constitution and the economic freedoms and opportunities our Country affords us while we experience the spectacular facilities, events and amenities of The League.” Newly elected Vice President Ed Turzanksi will take over the Founda- tions and Library Committee. The Library has never looked better and the contributions from the three Foundations have been significant with the 150th anniversary campaign and the publication of The Union League of Philadelphia: The First 150 Years. “Of all the ways in which the Union League is exceptional, the one that stands out is the strong proprietary interest that the Club’s leadership and members have shown in preserv- ing its unique heritage. Our Library and Foundations have served as the principal means by which we have engaged in meaningful historical, cultural and civic preservation and interaction - as evidenced by our Sesquicentennial Celebration year during which we achieved a high-water mark for programs serving our members and the general public. As we move forward, that level of activity will serve as the baseline upon which we will reach even more members and fellow citizens, and it will be an honor and pleasure to work with the staff and volunteers who have made the Union League the highest-rated City Club in the country, and the liv- ing embodiment of our motto: Love of Country Leads!.” The Activities Committee welcomes Casey Johnson as the new Vice President. The League’s calendar, despite a six month period of construc- tion, is still full of fun! “I am honored and thrilled to be chairing the Activi- ties Committee this coming year. Our goal will be to guide the country’s number one city club forward into its bright new future with fun, exciting and informative events. While we will be in construction mode in the kitchen and Lincoln Hall for the first half of the year, we plan to use other venues within the League House to continue presenting quality social and patriotic events for our members. Once the renovations are complete, the sky is the limit! Stay tuned for a fabulous year!” For more information about League events and activities, please check each month’s Banner and log on to www.unionleague.org. Returning Vice President Gregory Montanaro moves from Foundations and Library to VP of the House Committee. “This will be an extraordinary year for the House Committee, as we embark on the reconstruction of our main kitchen as well as the major renovation to Lincoln Hall. When completed, we will have a fully restored League House! In addition to the capital program, the House Committee is going to focus its energy on clubhouse services and the member experience.” Jim Dunigan has been elected as the new Vice President of Finance. “As the incoming Vice President of Finance, 2013 will be a year of some transi- tion. We are coming off a year of record financial performance in every area of the League operations. We will begin 2013 with a partial closure of some operations while we complete the planned renovations. We have increased our cash reserves and have our financing in place which positions us on solid financial footing. We have a good plan in place which executed as anticipated will allow us to come out of the renovation phase ready to resume full operations and results at the same record pace. Thanks to Sheryl Stern, our Controller for her excellent work and to all of our members for their continued support of our operations.” Stephen C. Target North Wales, PA Vice President Joseph C.
