All of the defects within the law are remedied through the Father sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh (Rom.

8:3)

• The Law could not make anyone righteousness and therefore could not give anyone life (Gal. 3:21)!

The Problem!

“As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death” (Prov. 11:19)

In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death” (Prov. 12:28)

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit” (Rom. 8:1)

4. Law of sin and death:

“But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” (Rom. 7:23, 24)

Without the gospel, we are in a free-fall to death

Romans 7:9-139 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.12 Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

6. What Christ did is something the Law of Moses could never do!• The Law could not

produce a person who condemned sin—the Law condemned the person

• Jesus kept the law perfectly and therefore condemned sin by His life

“that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Rom. 8:4)

7. Christ accomplished it for “us”• Walking

according to the Spirit in Christ fulfills the righteous requirement of the Law

The Effect!

“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (Rom. 8:10)

• The body and its sinful passions no longer rule over us as a master

• The spirit (soul) is therefore no longer dead (separated from God)• alive because of

righteousness!
