The Gospel According to Greg

Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor Greg Taylor [email protected] Last week, Adam, Ernie, Jim and I attended the Catalyst conference in Atlanta, Wednesday through Friday. To say it was a great experience would be the understatement of the year. I don’t have the time or space to share every highlight, but I was personally encouraged so much by the power of speakers like Andy Stanley, Francis Chan, Jim Collins, Mark Driscoll, Dave Ramsey, Judah Smith and several others. The theme of the conference was “Be Present,” and I left Atlanta with a new perspective on how important it is to be engaged and present in every aspect of ministry. Originally started in 1999 as a conference for young Christian leaders, this gathering is such a blessing. I may not be as “young” as I once was, but this conference once again did wonders for my heart and soul! Don’t forget about a couple of gender driven events that are just around the corner: The Little Galilee Men’s Retreat is on Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22 – cost is minimal (just $30 and FCC will pay half) and the impact will be powerful. I’m attending the majority of the sessions and would encourage the men of FCC to give this retreat a look. And on Thursday evening, October 27, our quarterly Ladies Night Out event takes place at 6:30 p.m. – this is always a great evening of fellowship, food and fun for the ladies of our church and of our community. This is also a great event to invite un-churched friends to attend – very non-threatening and fellowship driven!

The Gospel According to Greg (cont’d)

Pray for the Haiti mission trip as they leave this weekend for a week-long service endeavor. Ernie will on the trip, along with 14 others from FCC. Thanks to all you who have made this trip possible with generous gifts and thanks to Haitian Christian Outreach and Mac Burberry for the opportunity. Please pray for each of these individuals from our church that God would break their hearts and change their perspective in a great and mighty way! Finally, special thanks to Kent Hickerson for teaching on Wednesday evening during the Families @ First adult Bible study. I was told we hit triple digits – I hope you will consider returning on Wednesday evenings for this extended time of study. This Wednesday, we’ll look at Acts 17 and Paul’s ministry visits to Thessalonica, Berea and Athens, and on the 19th we’ll study 1 Corinthians 11 and the topic of propriety in worship. Hope you will join us! See you Sunday as we continue our series through the N.T. – this week looking at Romans 12 and Whole Life Worship – what it means to really Live the Life. Sunday will be a service you will not want to miss! Blessings GT P.S. Congratulations to Heather Heinrich on finishing Chicago Marathon on Sunday. Great job, Heather!

M.A.P. Meeting The 2012 M.A.P. meeting has been

moved to Wed., November 16 at

6:30 p.m. Please make every effort

to attend.

Don’t expect people to be perfect, because they won’t be. People who have perfectionist tendencies have a real struggle. It seems that the only way they can be satisfied with anything is that all things are perfect. When was the last time everything was perfect in your life? Obviously these people are destined to be frustrated and discontented most of the time. Don’t spend your life trying to make the impossible possible. People have faults and there is no way around it! No matter who you are in relationship with there will be times when they will disappoint you, so plan on forgiving frequently. “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21 KVJ Our next meeting will feature Carol McFeeters Thompson on the 19th of October. She will present a program that she promised us several months ago. On the 2nd of November, we’ll have Dr. Stephanie Culver deliver some helpful ideas. Then in December, we’ll have our usual Heyworth Choir on the 7th and our Christmas Party on the 21st. “You cannot glorify God better than by a calm and joyous life.” Spurgeon Our Mystery Trip happens this Saturday, the 15th. Next we will be off to Branson, Missouri on November 7, 8 & 9 for a happy time and good food. Christmas in the Chapel, at Lincoln Christian University, will be the 1st of December, followed by the Gaither’s on December 15th for their Christmas show in Bloomington, Illinois. Then we get ready for next year’s line-up. “While we’ve youth in our hearts, we can never grow old.” Oliver Wendell Holmes We encounter a lot of people. Some of them by choice, but a lot of them just end up in our lives as we go through our days. You will not enjoy a lot of your present moments unless you decide to also find a way to enjoy the people who invade them. “Grandparent: Something so simple a child can operate.”

October is Pastor Appreciation Month! There is no greater gift you can give your pastors & the spiritual leaders of your church than to pray for them. Prayer is crucial for pastors, their families, our church, and our church leaders. Please visit http://www.reviveourhearts.com for “31 Days of Praying for Your Pastor.” You can download the prayer guide. We will have some prayer guides at the information booth too. Diaper Drive for Grab N Go Last year there was a need for diapers at our Grab N Go, so this year we’re having a diaper drive to help out. During the four Sundays of November, we will have a crib set up in the foyer for the collection of disposable diapers. The sizes needed are 2, 3 & 4. There will also be a diaper bag in the crib for monetary donations to purchase diapers. If you write a check, please make it out to FCC and put diaper drive in the memo line. The next Grab N Go will be Saturday, December 17th.

Have you ever considered getting involved in the Worship Ministry? Here are a few areas in which we could use some

help:

1. Computer Operator For Worship Lyrics - Each Sunday a volunteer advances the lyrics for the worship songs using a computer program called Media Shout. We are looking for

additional operators to be put on the Sunday rotation. While no specific computer skill is needed, a general familiarity with computers is helpful. Training will be

provided.

2. Sound Operator – Basically we are in need of more people who can run sound in our Sunday worship services. This is a position that requires a familiarity with technology, a good ear for music, a willingness to learn and lots of

patience! Prior experience is a huge plus, but not a requirement. Training will be provided.

3. Christmas Musical – There are many needs for the upcoming Christmas musical. Here are a few of them:

Stage and scenes – we need people who can help with building and painting the set. Stage design experience and

artistic ability is preferred. Stagehands – We need people who can help with moving and changing the scenes during the musical. No experience needed. Choir/Chorus – it isn’t too late to join the choir for the musical. Practices are

on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.

If you are interested in any of these specific ministry areas,

please contact me. You can call me at the office or e-mail me at [email protected].
