Dear Kipling Residents,

Before you know it, the snow will be gone, flowers and trees will start to bloom, and our weather will get

a whole lot better. That’s usually the time we all start thinking about fixing up our homes and property,

making the outside curb appeal look better and maybe even start that major change that has been in the

back of your mind all winter.\

Change is good and the changes our homeowners have made in the past have always enhanced the value

of our neighborhoods and of course, the individual homes making the changes.

While you are in your planning stage, please keep in mind that anytime there is an exterior modification to

your property, you need to submit an architectural change form. Approval for an architectural change is a

relatively simple process. The homeowner submits to the Architectural Review Committee a preprinted

form together with supporting documentation including a plat and materials list so the committee can

make a determination as to whether the submission is in compliance with the CCR and standards. The

Architectural Review form can be obtained at the clubhouse or on-line at www.kiplingcommunity.com.

If you are planning a change, take the time to submit your form, get it approved, and enjoy your new sur-

roundings.

Bob Bradley

President, Kipling Estates HOA

The following is a summary

of the letter received from Lt.

Claudia Simmons, express-

ing The Salvation Army’s

deepest appreciation for the

support received from all the

Kipling residents.

Dear Kipling Estates,

With your help, there were

over 423 families that were given Christmas gifts.

There were over 1,871 children who were touched

by your gifts. They could not have done this

alone, so thank you again for your generosity.

Sincere Regards,

The Salvation Army

Letter from the President

Angel Tree Thank You

Just Another Day at the Office When my boss phoned me today, he said, "Is everything okay at the office?"

I said, "Yes, it's all under control. It's been a very busy day, I haven't stopped for a minute."

"Can you do me a favor?" he asked.

I said, "Of course, anything, what is it?"

He said, "Hurry up and take your shot, I'm right behind you on the 7th hole."

Delay in Investing Could Prove Costly Provided by: Paul Kalafut, Shorewood's Edward Jones

You've heard that "time is

money." And that expression

is certainly true when it

comes to saving for retire-

ment.

In fact, if you delay putting

away money for retirement

even for just a few years, it

can mean many thousands of

dollars less for you when you retire.

So, if you haven't started saving, begin soon.

Even if you can put away only a small

amount, such as $50 per month, you'll have

made a start. To make it easier on yourself,

move a set amount of money from you check-

ing or savings account each month into your

IRA. And once you've started your savings

program, don't forget about it. Every time you

get a salary increase, boost your contributions

to your IRA and your 401(k) or other em-

ployer-sponsored retirement plan.

In short, save early, save often-and keep in-

vesting.

Justin McCabe is con-

ducting a community

giving project. Infor-

mation regarding this

project can be found at

Phoneraiser.com. In

order to participate, he is not asking for your

money, he is asking for your garbage.

That’s right, most of us throw away electron-

ics that can eventually damage the environ-

ment without realizing that these products

can be recycled. However, we cannot just

throw them in a recycling bin, they must be

recycled separately from commonly recycled

cans, bottles and paper products.

Justin’s project makes this simple and acces-

sible to you. Donate your used cell phones/

PDA’s and inkjet cartridges. You can drop off

at 1100 Callaway West there will be a box on

his front porch. Justin McCabe is a student

and a member of the organization “People To

People Student Ambassador Program” Your

donation will help the environment. All prod-

ucts will be recycled or refurbished and all

donations are tax deductible. If

you are still not convinced that you have time

to donate these items, here are just a few facts

about non-recycled electronics.

- One cell phone can contaminate 35,000 gal-

lons of water, if it gets into the landfill – that’s

enough water for 153 people for one year.

- In the U.S. we have already retired over 500

million cell phones.

- Each month, an additional 10 million cell

phones are retired.

- In 2010, Phoneraiser Partners will save

4,620,000,000 gallons of water from being

contaminated, by recycling cell phones with

us.Only 5% of empty inkjet cartridges get re-

cycled.

- It takes 2.5 oz of oil to make a new inkjet

cartridge and ten times for a laser printer car-

tridge.

-In 2010, Phoneraiser Partners will recycle

over 120,000 inkjet cartridges.

So, you can make a difference, please find the

time to help!

Bright Ideas Around the House

Due to a thunderstorm

at night, you could

loose power for many,

many hours. Instead of

scrambling around in

the darkness, looking

for matches, candles,

flashlights, etc...... look

outside at your solar lights. Walk outside and

bring several of the solar lights inside.

Stick the solar light pipes into plastic drink

bottles. They make the nicest, brightest, saf-

est, lighting you could ever imagine.

They burn all night long if you need them.

The next day, you just take your solar lights

back outside and they will instantly recharge

and be ready for you to use again any time

you need them.

Recent Kipling Events and Photos

Don’t forget to spring ahead. Daylight sav-

ings time this year is March 11 at 2 a.m.
