Say sayonara to sleepless nights
with this pretty eye pillow inspired
by the East. The fashionable
kimono fabric in peaceful peach
and periwinkle, wrapped with a
simple obi sash, gives the eye mask
a fresh look. The serene scent of
the dried lavender flowers and

creation the eye pillow of your
dreams. Make one for yourself
and one for a friend!
Happy Lucky
Dream Pillow
0

To make the filling, blend
the lavender flowers, flax
seeds, and 0 drops of
lavender essential oil in a
bowl. Let air dry for one hour.
3
Use the funnel to pour the scented
flax seed filling into the opening
of the pillow. The pillow should be
floppy, not plump.
4
Cool TrickTo soothe an achy head, place your eye pillow in the freezer for 15 minutes before use.
Then place over your eyes and chill out.
To make the pillow, lay the
kimono fabric face-up and
fold in half, so the wrong side
is on the outside. Pin all three
open edges together with the
straight pins.
1
Hand stitch the edges together
with a backstitch, sewing one
stitch, leaving a space, then sewing
back over the space. On the last
side, leave a ” gap unsewn to pour
in the filling. Remove the pins and
turn the sewn pillow inside out.
2
What to do ...

To get the look of a kimono
sash, lay the periwinkle satin
face down. Fold a ” hem on
the two long sides and iron.
Then fold a ” hem on one of
the short sides and iron.
6
Lay the pillow crossways across
the periwinkle fabric. Fold the
periwinkle satin around the
pillow, overlapping the hemmed
end on top of the unironed end.
Pin together.
7
Stitch the opening closed with a slipstitch hidden inside the
seam by folding the fabric edges in and tacking them together.
Stitch inside each fold in a back-and-forth pattern.
5

Stitch the top end of the
periwinkle satin to the
bottom end of the satin
with a slipstitch.
8
Wrap the peach ribbon around
the periwinkle sash to finish off
the look. Then tie a petite bow
and trim the ends. Naptime!
9
Dreamy Ideas You can dream up all kinds
of exquisite eye pillows by simply swapping out fabrics and fragrances.
Day Dream Pillow: An afternoon nap calls for an herbal eye pillow
scented with chamomile and neroli. To create the filling, follow the recipe for the
eye pillow, but substitute dried chamomile flowers for the lavender buds and
infuse the mixture with drops of neroli essential oil instead of lavender. Then wrap
the filling in soft purple satin and tie with a swath of sage silk.
Tangerine Dream Pillow: For this citrusy version, follow the recipe
for the eye pillow, but leave out the lavender and double the amount of flax seeds.
Skip the lavender oil and drizzle in tangy sweet orange essential oil. Choose a
bold graphic print in a jazzy orange and yellow, then finish off your pillow with
an orange satin ribbon.
Wildest Dreams Pillow: Escape from it all with an exotic clove
bud pillow. Just follow the eye pillow recipe, but instead of lavender buds fill
the pillow with flax seeds only. For a robust aroma, trade the lavender essential
oil for drops of clove bud. Then wrap the filling with zebra-striped cotton and
cinch with a scarlet sash.

Give a gift that is totally the
bomb with these lime-and-mint-
scented Mojito Bath Bombs.
They are loaded with moisturizing
grapeseed oil, a zingy minty scent,
and enchanting iridescent soap
glitter. And when you drop
them in the tub, they fizz and
fizz and fizz! Your friends will
be tickled, literally!
How I Learned
to Stop
Worrying
and Love the
Bath Bomb
0
Pour the scented oil into the
bowl of dry ingredients. Mix
well with the spatula.
3
Add drops of lime green soap
dye and mash the mixture together
until it is the texture of cookie
dough. (Don’t worry if it fizzes
a little.)
4
This recipe makes
ten 1¼” bombs.
Package nine as gifts and
save one for yourself.
You’ve got to test
it, right?!
To concoct the bombs, mix
the citric acid, cornstarch,
baking soda, and soap glitter
together in a mixing bowl.
1
In a measuring cup, combine the
grapeseed oil with 0 drops of
spearmint essential oil. Stir with
the spatula
2
What to do ...

Spritz each bomb with one
or two sprays of witch hazel.
They will fizz at first, but will
eventually dry to a crust. Allow
the bombs to air dry for a few
hours, then turn them over and
spritz the other side. Allow to
dry overnight.
6
To package your bombs, place
three balls into a cellophane
favor bag. Use the striped
ribbon to tie each bag closed.
7Using the melon baller, scoop out a ball of the mixture into your hand.
Press the ball tightly together and shape to form a ball. Place the ball onto
a cookie sheet covered in waxed paper. Repeat until all of the mixture has
been formed into bombs.
5
Recipe For Success:
If your bath bombs are
crumbly and won’t stick
together, add a few more drops
of oil. If they seem too gooey,
add more cornstarch.

To create the labels, write “Mojito
Bath Bombs” on a round tag with
a lime Sharpie. Using the thin
mint ribbon, tie one tag and two
mint leaves onto each bag. Those
bath bombs fizz fo’ shizzle!
9
To embellish the bags, cut the
kelly green paper into leaves
shaped like mint, then crease
them lengthwise and fold for
a leaf-like effect. Punch a hole
in one end of each leaf. You
will need two leaves per bag.
8Effervescent Presents To custom blend bath bombs that are just right for special occasions, change the scent
and embellish the bag to go with your theme.
Candy Cane Mints: For a bath bomb that says “Season’s Greetings,” follow
the bath bomb recipe, but substitute peppermint essential oil for spearmint essential oil,
and leave out the lime green soap dye. Embellish the bags with mini-candy canes instead
of mint leaves, and use a red sash to tie the bags closed. Ho ho ho!
Red Hots: For a Valentine’s Day bath bomb, follow the recipe for bath bombs,
but swap out the peppermint essential oil for cinnamon oil. Dye the bombs pink using
red soap dye and tie them up with a big pink bow. Add a heart cutout to make
your valentine complete.
Sweet Bath Oranges: A refreshing soak is just what Mom wants for
Mother’s Day, so make her a batch of sweet orange bath bombs. Follow the recipe for
bath bombs, but use orange soap dye instead of lime and use sweet orange essential oil
instead of spearmint. When you package the sweet orange bombs, tie the bag with
a bright green ribbon and small white flowers cut-out to look like orange blossoms.
Sugar Cookies: For a fun birthday party favor, make bath cookies. Follow
the bath bomb recipe, but leave out the soap dye and use vanilla fragrance oil instead of
spearmint. After you place the bombs on the wax paper cookie sheet, pop them into
a 00-degree oven for 0 minutes. They’ll melt into cookie shapes. Take them out and let
them cool, then spritz them with witch hazel and let them dry. Yummy! (But don’t eat them!)

A ravishing sachet filled with

vibrant magenta rose makes this
a gorgeous thank you gift for
the hostess with the mostess!

onto the center of the square.

Rags To Riches
These elegant sachets
require so little fabric
you can use the finest
materials without
breaking the bank.
Look for sumptuous
fabrics in the special
occasion section. After
all, isn’t making sachets
a special occasion?
To create the scented sachet
filling, pour the rosebuds and
petals into a bowl.
Add 0 drops of the rose fragrance
oil and 0 drops of the lavender
essential oil and stir.
2
1What to do...
0
V Variety Is The Spice Of Life For sachets to suit other moods, from calming to uplifting, just substitute
different herbs and essences.
Relaxing Lavender Sachet: Lavender is not only fragrant, it’s
beautiful! So choose sheer ivory fabric like organza and let the buds show
through. Finish your sachet with a blue hydrangea and a purple velvet sash.
Cozy Clove Sachet: To make a sachet suited for fall, blend clove bud
essential oil, cinnamon essential oil, and calendula petals. Wrap in burnt
orange raw silk, top with an orange chrysanthemum, and tie with a
chocolate-brown bow.
Energizing Mint Sachet: For a reviving sachet, mix peppermint
essential oil, grapefruit essential oil, and peppermint leaves. Use green
taffeta, a bouquet of tiny paperwhites, and a chartreuse satin ribbon to
finish the sachet.
6
6
6
Gather the corners and edges
of the fabric square tightly
together around the filling to
form a ball.
Secure the fabric at the top
with a small rubber band.
5
4

Stick the remaining rose stem
down into the center of the
sachet.
Finish the sachet by wrapping the
organdy ribbon around the top to
conceal the rubber band. Then tie
the ribbon in a tidy knot and trim
the ends at an angle. Scentsational!
8
7
To embellish the sachet, snip the stem of
the silk rose ” from the base of the bloom. 6
Filling Fine:
Sachets need a filling of dried
herbs for the essential oils to
hang onto. Calendula petals,
dried rose petals, and lavender
flowers are the most popular
because they bring a great
scent to the mix.

Give the gift of happy feet
with an aromatic foot soak in
exhilarating eucalyptus and
rosemary. This blend of Epsom
salts, coarse sea salt, and
baking soda softens skin while
soothing tired tootsies. What
an amazing feat for the feet!

To package the foot soak,
spoon it into the jar and place
the lid on top.
3
Epsom Salts:
Epsom salts have been used in bath soaks since the mid 00s, when a
farmer in Epsom, England discovered that the salt seemed to heal scratches.
Chemically, it is Magnesium Sulfate, but you can find it in cartons at the
drugstore simply labeled “Epsom Salts.”
To create the foot soak,
pour the Epsom salts, sea
salt, baking soda, and dried
rosemary into a mixing
bowl and stir.
1
To scent the mixture, add 0 drops
of eucalyptus essential oil and 0
drops of rosemary essential oil a
few drops at a time and stir until
no clumps are present. Drizzle in
the glycerin while stirring.
2
What to do ...

Carefully peel the
backing off without
bending the aluminum
tape and place the label
onto the jar.
5
To embellish the beaded
salt-scoop, place a bead on
the end of the wire and twist
the end into a swirl.
6Craft an embossed label for your jar by cutting a ” piece of the aluminum
flashing tape (do not remove the backing yet!). Place the flashing tape onto
a soft surface (like the underside of a mouse pad). Using the chopstick,
handwrite “Rosemary Foot Soak” on the tape, pressing firmly to emboss the
letters into the metal tape.
4

Tie your beaded salt-scoop
to the jar by wrapping a piece
of garnet ribbon around the
neck of the jar and tying a
knot around the scoop. Now
that foot soak is good for
the sole!
9
Different Soaks For Different Folks
To spice up your foot soaks,
mix the salts and baking soda
together and separate the mixture
into three batches. Add different
loose herbs and a different essential
oil to each batch. Then pour
the blends into three spice
jars and label them with
spice jar labels.
Press the wire swirl flat against
the handle and wrap the wire
around the end of the coffee scoop
handle once. String one glass bead
onto the wire so it rests flat on top
of the handle. Continue wrapping
the wire around the handle,
adding a bead every other time
around until you reach the spoon-
end of the scoop.
7
Trim the wire, leaving
inches at the end. Finish off
your beaded salt-scoop by
twisting a swirl into the end
of the wire, adding one bead
at the end, then pressing the
swirl flat against the handle.

Sweet Creams Are Made Of This
Emollients are the creamy goodness in skincare products. Most of the following popular emollients can be found at grocery stores and drugstores.
Grapeseed Oil: an exceptional all-over moisturizer good for damaged and stressed tissues.
Almond Oil: a sweet and nutty emollient for nearly all skin types.
Coconut Oil: a marvelous moisturizer that creates a protective barrier for the skin.
Olive Oil: a thick, rich oil that provides a moisturizing base for foot soaks and scrubs.
Honey: a viscous emollient for everything from cleansing scrubs to calming masks.
Vitamin E: a healing moisturizer and protector for dry skin.
Glycerin: an unscented, clear liquid used as an emollient and moisturizer in skin products.
Cornstarch: a powder known for quieting irritated skin.
Baking Soda: a gentle, calming emollient for sensitive skin.
Essential
Difference:
Essential oils are
botanical essences
distilled from plants.
Fragrance oils
are synthesized to
produce a desired
smell. Essential oils
generally cost more
than fragrance oils,
and some people
believe they have
healing powers.

Scrub Me Tender
To turn soothing soaks into invigorating scrubs, visit your local grocery store for a few bath-time basics.
Sugar: even texture ideal for gentle exfoliation.
Brown Sugar: even texture effective for smoothing the skin.
Table Salt: extra-fine texture good for mild exfoliation.
Coarse Sea Salt: uneven, coarse texture best for pedicure scrubs.
Oatmeal: soft when wet, but maintains exfoliating properties good for rough spots.
Ground Almonds: fine grind good for all-over body scrub, coarse grind good for
feet and knees.
Coffee Grounds: coarse texture with intense aroma.
Strawberry Seeds: even texture good for an everyday exfoliant.
Poppy Seeds: delicate texture, use in small amounts for a fine scrub and larger
amounts for a stronger scrub.

To Know:
Because some
people have skin
allergies, it’s a good
idea to include a
list of ingredients
with your handmade
scrubs, bath bombs,
and foot soaks.
