    It seems quite appropriate, as we entel' this, our Thirty-first consecutive Annual Clinic and Twenty-fifth Annual Meeting of the John A. Andrew Clini-cal Society, to acknowledge our indebtedness to all those who have passed on and to those who yet car-ry on, who have helped to bring into being this splendid institution. To those who will be with us this year for the first time and for the years to come, we extend greetings and a hearty welcome.

    In so doing, we commend to you the Philosophies of the John A. Andrew Clinic; viz:

    l. Professional service to the needy sick. 2. Professional development of the Negro

    physician. 3. Professional interracial contact. 4. Professional inter-sectional relationships.

    This quadruple succinctly r elates the Why of the John A. Andrew Clinics. It is by a strict ad-herence to these principles that this Clinic has steadily grown through the years. It is this that has brought to us abundance of patients and hun-dreds of doctors every year.

    It is this that has brought such commendatory expressions from those who have attended the Clinics as the following:

    "It was a revelation to see what is being ac-complished there and I was glad to take part in the program (Clinic) of last week. The success .... there is one of the most encouraging things I have seen in my travels about the country." Dr. Dallas B. Phemister, Department of Surgery of the University of Chicago Medical School.

    "Mrs. Brown and I enjoyed every moment of our stay in Tuskegee, and were very deeply impressed with the importance of the work there." Dr. E. V. L. Brown, Chief of the Department of Ophthalmol-ogy, University of Chicago.

    "The greatest teaching Clinic for Negroes any-where in the world today." Dr. Walter Gray Crump, New York City.

    "I heartily subscribe to the Philosophies of the John A. Andrew Clinic. I am confident that the fine relationship which has come from Dr. B. F. Austin, Acting State Health Officer and from Dr. George Denison, Acting Health Officer of Jeffer-son County, and their official personnel, has come of the appreciation of the John A. Andrew Clinic ideas." Dr. Walter H. Maddux, formerly Director of the Slossfield Center, Birmingham, Alabama;

  • i::resently Pi-ofessor of Pediatrics, Mehany Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee.

    Having developed to such a status as to receive these and other expressions of commendation and support, it is our hope and desire that regardless of of the heights to which our men may ascend in the knowledge and practice of the healing art, that this Clinic will ever remain an intenacial institution, adhering to the "Philosophies of the John A. An-drew Clinic."
