“THE JIVE”
Wanted Volunteer's for Monday Social Night & Thursday
Dance Lessons Please see Lea Or Glenda
Monday Nights are changing a bit.
As you know, Lea and Janet have been providing some Line Dancing & Partner Dance workshops on a Monday Nights before
the normal Rock & Roll social night and this will continue this year but as a bit of variety from this, those workshops will go
for 6 weeks and start at 6.30pm to 7.30pm and then we’ll be alternating with another type of workshop for the next 6 weeks.
This rotation will happen throughout the year.
So starting next week 28th January the Line Dancing/Partner workshops will kick off with a very easy Line Dance (which was
seen at the Saturday Night Festival dance called “Ms Jody’s Thang” and on the 4th February we’ll have the one of the Festival
Workshop dances, the “Hudson Valley Cha Cha”. The cost is still only $3.00 per week which also give you entry to the social
night.
Starting 11th March, Celia & Richard will be running a 6 week Swing Workshop. The cost for these workshops will be $10 per
week which also entitles you to stay for the remainder of the Monday night & practice your dance moves as per normal.
All workshops will start at 6.30pm, on the dot, to allow the full hour as the social starts at 7.30pm.
Hope to see you there.

EVENT VENUE White Eagle House 46-48 Fellmongers Rd Breakwater, VIC 3219 Melway Ref 452 F1
The 2019 Summer Rock n Roll Festival was held over the first weekend of the year and was enjoyed by all who attended. You would have noticed that we made some more changes to the layout & the
running of the weekend building on last year’s Festival. Along with these changes, we are also trying improve the feedback from a wider selection of club members and in a more timely manner on how they experienced the Festival.
To facilitate this, we are having a get together at White Eagle House on Tuesday 29th January starting at 7:00 pm where you can give us your feedback. If you can’t make this meeting, feel free to send in an email with your comments. Thanks Larry Email: [email protected] Mobile: 0413 987 398

President’s Report
2019 Summer Rock & Roll Festival
What a great start to the year! Another fantastic festival done & dusted! Congratulations to Larry and his team on the Festival Sub Commit-tee, the Club Committee and all the wonderful members who volunteered their help and time leading up to and over the three days of the festival.
The changes all went smoothly and the feedback we’ve received show that we did it well. Having bands & DJ on two stages was great. Non-stop music all day kept everyone well and truly entertained and of course “dancing” throughout the whole weekend.`
Thank you to all the bands; Fender Benders (Friday & Sunday), Smokin’ Wingtips (Saturday), Rocking’ Daddies/Atomic Hi Tones and the Shane Magro Combo (Sunday) for some great music. A big thank you to DJ Jeff & Susanne for MC’ing Saturday and Sunday and for your great music during the band breaks. You all helped to make it a great festival.
Thank you to the representatives from the VRRDA for overseeing and judging the competitions on Saturday and the final of the Summer Rock & Roll Festival’s Open on Saturday night. In particular a big thank you to Fiona & Malcolm for their help in the lead up to the festival competitions.
For the second year we held a partner workshop and again it was very well attended and enjoyed by approximately 60 people. Thank you to Diane Pungatori for workshopping some great dances again for us.
Of course, a lot of thanks must go to White Eagle House. Without their cooperation we could not have such a great festival. Thank you to the Manager, Andrea and of course to Christine, our Bar Staff for the Friday and Saturday night and to the other staff at White Eagle and to John & Martin and their staff in the Bistro. Thank you to you all.
We’re now looking towards the 2020 festival which will mark 20 years of festivals for Geelong Jukebox Rockers. So save this date January 3rd , 4th & 5th , 2020 and come along to celebrate with us.
Monday Night Socials
Our Monday night socials will resume on Monday 21st January at 7.30pm. This is a great night to practise your “moves” and of course social-ise with everyone and all for only $3.00. We run a roster for those who would like to MC and play the music for the night. The club has many playlists on the computer so you don’t need to put a playlist together, just use one of ours, but of course you can bring along your own playlist and plug it in to the system. Please consider being on the roster, it’s great to have other’s contributing to our Club and sharing the love around
Partner and Line Dance Workshops
Also starting on the 28th January and included in the $3.00 entry for the Monday Social, we will again be running our Partner and Line Dance workshops. These workshops will start at 6.30pm for one hour.
The first dance will be one that was seen on the Saturday night of the festival. A very easy Line Dance known as “Ms Jody’s Thang”. A very easy start to the year! On the 4th February (and continuing for 2 or 3 weeks) we’ll be learning one of the dances that Diane taught at the Festival, the Hudson Valley Cha Cha.
These Partner & Line Dance workshops will run for 6 weeks and then have a rest for 6 weeks throughout the year. Watch this space for what well be running for the other 6 weeks!!!!!!

2019 Summer Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival
Comments from Committee and Members
The 2019 Festival was another block buster with good crowds at the dances being entertained by fantastic Australian bands.
From all the feedback we have received, the weekend was a great success with most people commenting it was our best festival yet. This is a testament to the organizing committee and of course our volunteering members.
We started off the weekend with our Friday Night dance being entertained by the fabulous Fender Benders. James, as always, had the floor packed all night with most of the crowd remaining till the very end, even after the raffles! Some dancers usually keep a bit in reserve for the weekend by leaving early, but the floor was packed till the end of the night.
On Saturday morning we had Dianne Pungitore doing a partner dance class that was booked to capacity. The two dances taught were the Hudson Valley Cha Cha and Angel Waltz. I couldn’t get to this, but the participants all seemed to be enjoying themselves & their skills were demonstrated when they did the two routines that night at the dance.
Saturday saw a change in the previous year’s program as we held the Dance competitions. The number of spectators was down a bit from previous years but the numbers of competitors the same.
On Saturday night we handed over the stage to the Smokin’ Wingtips. These guys blew the place away with fabulous music all night long. The energy & enthusiasm by the band & the dancers made the night electric. Both dance floors were packed all night with a huge crowd staying till the end of the dance. Another testament to the enjoyment that everyone was having.
Sunday morning broke with clear skies & a warm sun. We couldn’t have asked for better weather (although I did place an order for mild conditions & scattered cloud, I do have some connections it seems). Two stages with Rock N Roll outside & Rockabilly inside the hall. This was a bit of a brave experiment, but it really worked very well. Both floors were very busy all day with all participants excited by the variety & opportunity to move around. We also had some stalls on the inside of the hall which added atmosphere. We had the Fender Benders, Rocking’ Daddies & Shane Magro Combo working both stages demonstrating their talent & ability in both these genres. To cope with the ever-increasing numbers, we added an-other 12 panels of flooring to the outside floor to give everyone even more room. At the beginning of the day I thought that this might not be required with the availability of the ins-ide dance floor but every time I checked, the floor was packed with dancers doing their thing.
From my personal point of view, coordinating the festival is a nerve wracking, exciting, stressful, gratifying, lovable, friendly and thoroughly enjoyable experience. I was privileged to be able to work with a fantastic sub-committee supported by the main committee and a great team of club members who volunteered their time in both the preparation & running the day. To you all I say a very heartfelt thank you.
Larry
Rock n Roll Classes
Our Rock n Roll classes start on Thursday 7 th February at 7pm. Elva & Robin will again be instructing our attendees in traditional rock and roll and of course will be extending dancers in more advanced traditional steps as
well as some other great styles of rock and roll at 8pm. So spread the word!
We are always looking for volunteers to help out at the door for each of our classes. If you can please spare a
couple of hours three or four times during the year (less if we have a lot of helpers).
We like to have two people on the door each week so if you and your partner or a friend can help please contact one
of the committee members and put your name down.
Monthly Dances
Our first monthly dance for 2019 will be on Saturday February 2 nd with a visiting band from Queensland. This and “Dance On” is extremely popular with the Queensland Rock & Rollers. In fact we’ve already had many book-
ings from people who have followed this band (including some holidaying from Queensland). So, we’re really looking forward to hearing this band. Don’t forget to book your tickets on www.trybooking.com. If you’re unable to book yourself, please phone 0432 503 997 and Glenda or Paul will help you to book or speak to any of the other commit-
tee members.
Keep on Dancin’, have Fun and remember, respect for each other and a smile can be contagious!

There was talent aplenty at the Summer Rock Fest for 2019! Our personal highlight of the Festival was The Fenders Benders
on Friday night. Playing a great variety of Rock ‘n’ Roll, they kept the floor full all night, with a great atmosphere and sm iles all
round. Saturday night, we didit all again, enjoying the music of The Smokin’ Wingtips and witnessing some great dancing in
the final of the Summer Rock Dance Championships. The weekend weather was great, especially on the Sunday, with sun-
shine and light winds thankfully not strong enough to get the shades airborne! While we thoroughly enjoyed the authentic
Rock ‘n’ Roll music played by the bands, we believe the weekend would have been even better had the Rock ‘n’ Roll music
continued into the band breaks. Congratulations to both the General and Festival Committees and all members who worked
together to achieve an incredible weekend of dancing, music and promotion of Rock & Roll in Geelong.
Cheers

2019 Festival. The festival was a great weekend. The Fender Benders on the Friday night were fabulous. we loved the Smoking Wingtips on the Saturday night. And to have Jeff and Susanne on the Saturday night was such a bonus, playing their great mu-sic. All the bands were great on the Sunday. On the Sunday with 2 floors going inside and out was perfect. We didn't know how the two dance floors would go but by what we could see it worked really well. Jeff and Susanne had the coordination of bands and their music down to perfection. Great selection of stalls. Can't fault anything. Thanks to Larry, Lea and committee for a fabulous weekend. Curly and Rhonda
Geelong Jukebox Rockers Summer festival is always a great weekend to start off the New Year and this one was no exception. Both dances on Friday and Saturday night had a friendly, party-like atmosphere and even with large numbers in attendance, with two dance floors open there was plenty of room to dance. A free Partner dance workshop on the Saturday morning was very well attended, and it was lovely to see these new routines in action over the weekend. On Saturday night we also had the pleasure of watching amazing dancers compete in the final of the Adult Open competition. Sunday was also a fantastic day and thankfully the weather was kind to us as well. This year’s new layout seemed to work
well. The outside area was busy as usual with dancing and amazing bands, but then to walk inside and see another packed
dance floor was fantastic. Another amazing Summer festival attended by rockers from far and wide.
