AIO Will Honor Teresa Nascimbeni T he Americans of Italian Origin Society will honor Teresa Nascimbeni on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Fern Hill Country Club at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and dancing. Nascimbeni is a shining example of humility, selflessness and love. She is a woman whose energetic personality, drive and readiness to serve the community is superseded only by her love and compassion with which she performs every task. Born in Belluno, a province of Veneto, she trained as a social worker in Italy and soon emigrated to Switzerland, then to Germany, to help her family. In 1969 she joined her husband, Sergio along with her two children, Sonia and Lucio, in Mexico where Sergio had been assigned as a Ford Motor Co. employee. After their return to the states, Nascimbeni began working toward the goal and dream of her life: to be a volunteer and social worker for the Italian- American community of Detroit. She is an active volunteer in many clubs. Her close relationship with the Consulate of Italy in Detroit and the presidency of ANFE has allowed her to concentrate on her greatest and most rewarding project: the children. Italian children who, in need of a desperate operation to restore their sight, come from all over Italy to Beaumont Hospital looking for a miracle. Nascimbeni works tirelessly for this cause and, with the generosity of Dr. Michael Trese and Dr. Antonio Capone, as well as the assistance of the Consulate of Italy, has been able to arrange a miracle trip for over 95 children. She is also a member of the Italian Study Group of Troy, of the Dante Alighieri Society of the Italian Cultural Center of Clinton Township of Michigan, where since 1990 she has volunteered her time to assist the community. She also helps the community of the Trevisani Nel Mondo, of the Venetian Club and of the Fogolar Furlani in Michigan and serves as President of the A.N.F.E. Organization in Michigan. She is one of the founders of N.O.I Organization, a foundation with the principle motive to teach the Italian language. Today, the N.O.I. TERESA NASCIMBENI (Continued on Page 13)
