Transcript of The Inuit made over a hundred ‘string games’ before European contact which included star...
The Inuit made over a hundred ‘string games’ before
European contact which included star ‘maps’ depicting such
constellation as Orion and the Pleiades.
Other North American tribes, Ojibwa, Micmac, Cherokee,
Lakota, Navajo, Pawnee and Zuni ‘weaved’ this tradition
into their ‘string art’ and into their ‘star stories’.

Navajo symbol of the ‘Mask of the Black God.’
The 7 ‘white dots’ represent the Pleiades star cluster (Dilyehe), their most sacred constellation. It is depicted on the ‘left cheek’ of the Black God (night sky) ; and it is to the Navajo the microcosmic symbol of the ‘orderly’ universe ; as well as a seasonal indicator and time keeper.
