THE PERFECT ANTIDOTE

Main verse - Ecclesiastes 12:12the glory of God and men - concealment & revelationProverbs 25:2 Deutronomy 29:29

moment of truth due to friend's indulgence Mara texted me seeking help on how to effectively study. i could notice that there was a height in temperature which could only be attributed to extreme fever caused by the pathogen called exam his flesh was undoubtedly wearied by too much study this instantly triggered the release of a revelation as alluded to and the making up of the perfect antidote to being study weary

a matter of life

I remember a sermon in 2014 where I symbolised God being our maker who gave us a manual on how we should operate to be effective - the Bible so since our maker identified in his manual that our flesh will be wearied by studying much, we cannot argue with him since this is the correct position but we will not stop there, since it is our glory to reveal the matter let us defatigue the study by making sure it is not much. where does much come from? it comes from using an ax that is dull and blunt, leaving one to use much strength and in using much strength, the flesh is wearied - Ecclesiastes 10:10. much is something that is subjective and hence what is much cannot be easily established till the symptoms show up. but we can only say something is much when it is concentrated in one time since prevention is better than cure, here is how you can dilute your study from reaching concentration levels that make it much. this is the skill to bring much success without being unnecessarily wearied.

Study at an appropriate time Some are early birds who are at their most receptive in

the early morning while some are night owls who can absorb that much in the evening.

Know to which type you belong and plan your study time accordingly. Set your priorities right so that either your leisure time or study time is not eaten into.

For all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We all need moments of recreation to freshen up and by this we will not suffer a burn out ceteris paribus.

Have a study partner who is of the same feather as you – I am referring to the first point above! They will help you stick to your studies thru encouragements, reminders, wake up calls etc

study what u have just covered before the ink is probably 48 hours dry, look into

or peruse covered material after that one should not shelve the matter

completely but periodically review the matters so that come exam time, dust would not have gathered on these material and then ...

You take your time dusting off and you will possibly get respiratory problems from such dust – kurava magwaro pasina kufema (studying without taking breathers)

write down what u studied

as humans, we are like operating systems which need the processes of data capture, processing, storage and retrieval to facilitate learning to help this learning process, after a study session one should scribble down points of what they were studying and then compare them to the original study content to see areas not captured this helps one identify which process did not occur

study beforehand

reading in advance pave the way for one to be ready and prepared for the topic to be covered in that one will be able to move along with the current instead of being swept away by confusion emanating from a new topic that is foreign

discuss

discussion help in the cross pollination of ideas to produce a hybrid repository

they also help one to present stored data Ideas are non-rivalry in nature. Consider the case

where two friends have separate & distinct ideas, one for each. Sharing would result in each having two ideas apiece.

No pressure

Relax, take a deep breath and do not apply unnecessary pressure on yourself. Infact do not exert pressure on your studies. Challenge yourself, set your priorities right

Applying pressure means pressing the panic button to switch to panic mode where retentiveness is thrown out and forgetfulness welcomed

Pressure may chase away learnt material and bring in negative thoughts of failure which are exacerbated by some material you take long to understand

Pressure wearies the mind such that it is torn and will not be able to retain material. Or it can lead to cramming such that the brain will be jammed, in the exam

Have study breaks

Study breaks help keep the mind fresh and they help move learnt material from the temporary memory to the permanent memory.

Walk away from the book, chat outside with friends or have the outdoor breeze freshen your mind.

Study breaks can be between distinct topics or subjects They should not be that short to reduce momentum but should

not be that long that your mind will be a mass of inertia – having lost a study spirit that possessed you.

Intervals between study breaks should be reasonably manageable. Mine is like 45min to an hour. And the breaks can be up to 15min long.

They reduce wearing of the mind so that rather than a marathon study session with one break, you learn more in less time.

conclusion

Ecc 10:10 - if the ax is dull The above verse clearly says it all. If the ax is

blunt, one must use more strength but skill brings much success. Hence this reading skill. So that you don’t use much strength and be wearied.

hopefully this will make you walk out of the university with distinction rather than flying out.

While I may not have those amny distinctions to set me on podium finishes, indeed the few 3s I have can be attributed to this reading strategy.
