THE INDESIGN has rightly proved that “a journey of a thousand miles begin with a first step”. What began as a
small shop in the name of Globe Furniture, on Marquis Street, old Calcutta more than three decades back, has now turned into one of the most renowned company in the field of interior decoration and designing not only in Kolkata but in
other parts of India as well. Founded and led by Late MR SHANTILAL JAIN in the year 1972 under then renowned
Architect MR GOURI GHOSH, it has worked its way all through the years. Mr S.L Jain had a vision that gave the
impetus to interior designing; it needed so seriously at that time. He added much to the acclaim and present status of interior decoration and designing that it now enjoys. It has to its credit the privilege of working with the most prestigious and big names among the corporate and industrial houses. Kothari Medical Hospital, Daga Villa- Amritsar, Cheviot Jute Industries, and Bengal Rowing Club are a few of our projects in the early years. We have worked successfully with some of the leading names in business-R.S. Goenka, Birla Group, Periwal (National Ply), to name a few. With over 30 years of expertise and planning, it has made an impressionable mark in the field of interior decoration and designing, ever since its inception. We understand the need for creating elegant yet functional designs that are a blend of classical and modern styles. Special emphasis is laid on architectural details, lighting and space management. Our designs focus on creating timeless environments that stand out from the rest. Quality, durability and utility are the most important focus of all our creations. Our clients range from top corporate houses, elegant showrooms to all types of residential projects and their needs and desires are suitably taken into consideration by our experts We have now expanded as one of the leading Interior Decorators in Kolkata having four factories with approx. 20,000 Sq. ft. covered area, the main being located in the heart of the city at Tollygunge Road and is fully mechanized. We are well equipped with all type of wood- working machines and tools, in house designing and over 300 highly skilled permanent and contract workmen comprising of Carpenters, Carvers, Polishers, Painter, Marble Mistries, P.O.P Mistries, Cabinet Makers, Machine Operators and Other Technical Personal for Wooden Frame, Panel Doors, Flush Doors and Moldings etc., besides Account and other Office Staff. We also have had the opportunity of working with some of the finest and best known designers and architects - Mr. Kapil Bhalla, Mrs. Kiran Pakti (Bombay), Mr. Rajendra Kumar (Delhi), Mrs. Fransisca of Richmond International, London; M/s Sanon Sen & Associates, Kolkata and worth mentioning M/s Dulal Mukherjee & Associates with whom we have finished three major projects.
We proficiently equipped to execute large scale interior designing projects of Commercial Complexes, Corporate Offices, Institutional Projects, Hospital Projects, Health Resorts, 3 To 5 Starred Hotel, Holiday Resorts and Amusement Parks. The company takes turnkey assignment as per clients need. The company operates under the able direction of, MR.

Earlier in the name of Hindustan Interiors and Wood Pvt. Ltd., we have already completed major projects like Windsor Manor Sheraton and Towers, Bangalore valued Rs.1.10 Crore and Mourya Sheraton and Towers, New Delhi valued Rs.65 Lakhs both being of I.T.C. Group besides other projects. We have also negotiated the Suite Rooms of Everest Hotel, Kathmandu besides their Bungalow work at Mahrajganj Nepal. We have done the door/windows frames & shutters etc. of M/s. Ganapati Grenfield Pvt. Ltd. Raichak site to the tune of Rs.50 Lakhs (approx.) We must further mention that an All India Pre-qualification Tender was floated by Balmer Lawrie Co. Ltd. and we were one of the three interior decorators selected by them for IBP House, Kolkata the value of the project being Rs.1.55 Crore which is completed. We have also executed the office interiors of Siemens Ltd. Kasba the value of the project being Rs.1.00 Crore. Beside this year have done a number of offices guest house of Indian Statistical Institute and the Office Interiors of Castrol India Ltd. values Rs 60 Lakhs and 1.3 Crore respectively, Siemens Ltd. Joka Works for Rs.10 Lakhs, Tantia Construction Rs.30 Lakhs, Taj Coromondal Rs 65 Lakhs etc. We have worked for and won the confidence of several eminent Architects and Project Management Consultants of India. QUALITY ASSURANCE PLAN
Procurement of Material :-
We always ensure procurement of material as approved by the Architect and specified in the tender directly from
manufacturer/authorized dealer.
WORKMANSHIP:-
Fabrication & Installation of Work is constantly supervised at site by experienced Supervisors/Project Managers.
SUBCONTRACTS:-
installation of proprietary and specialized items/jobs as specified and approved by the Architect, such as false ceiling,
false floor, access control , electrical & HVAC Works etc. are always arranged through, authorized dealers and renowned
agencies who are well versed in project works since long.
EQUIPMENTS: -
Miscellaneous project items, loose furniture and branded items are always procured directly or through authorized
agencies.
SPECIAL FURNITURES:- Are made in our own workshop at Kolkata by experienced team of task masters.
The well known world class projects that we have completed so far and our continued association with Project Managers/
Architects itself illustrates our quality consciousness and assurance for the same.
ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, SAFETY RULES & PROCEDURE
Our Responsibilities
• To carry out the work with safety and health of personnel and properties in mind. To notify conditions that constitute hazard to those potentially affected.
• To control the manner and methods of operations.
• To comply with applicable national, local EH &S legislation & regulations and ensure that employees receive proper training on the work to be done.
• To demonstrate good work ethics without circumventing engineered safety devices and control.
• To immediately inform Project Manager when an accident happened to its employee or Client personnel and properties. To submit a brief accident report within 24 hours and a detailed report within 72 hours.
• No minors (below the age of Eighteen years) to be permitted to work on the Project site.
• No kids/ children to be permitted within the Project site.
• To develop an emergency treatment and medical evaluation procedure. To set up a working arrangement with local medical doctor to handle injury cases, and provide for other treatment by a specialist or local hospital.
• All persons must have Basic entry “awareness” of EH&S induction. Smoking
• Smoking is not allowed in the office & toilets. P.P.E
To provide suitable personal protective equipment when the job requires. As per Risk Analysis type and quality of PPE will be recommended for use. This includes:-
• Hardhat with chinstrap.
• Leather safety shoe with steel toe.
• Face Shield to be used during welding.
• Goggles during gas cutting, drilling, grinding, overhead works.
• Hand gloves as per risk analysis
• Earplugs for works at more than 85 db noise level.
• Nose mask in dust, fumes, smoke and gas.
• Full body harness with double lanyard of 1.5m length and snap hook of 50mm diameter for all works at height.
Passageway
• Do not enter other work areas without proper authorization.
• Use established aisles and walkways, do not take short cuts between desks and equipment.
• Passageway and emergency exit doors must be kept clear at all time..
• Passageway and emergency exit doors must have proper signage making it prominently visible. House Keeping
• Clean up spills such as oil on floors immediately. Floors should be free of debris and accumulations of dust.
• Any equipment or tools not in use should be removed from the work area.
• All tripping hazards on floor should be identified and eliminated.
• All costly materials should be kept under lock and key.
• Material temporarily left on site must be stacked properly with a sign placed to warm others. The location shall be accepted by the project manager at site.
• Good housekeeping shall be maintained at all work areas.
• Clean up at the end of the day and completely before handling over of job.
• Food & drinks are not generally allowed on the site.
Storage
• Stored materials should allow at least one meter (or about 3 feet of clear space under sprinkler heads.
• Stacking cartons and drums on a firm foundation and cross tying them, where necessary reduces the chance of their movement.
• Stored materials should not obstruct aisles, stairs, exits, fire equipment, emergency eyewash fountains, emergency showers, or first aid stations.
• All storage areas should be clearly marked. Floor Opening
All floor opening must be protected by one of the following:-
• Rigid guardrail and mid rail.
• Hole cover must be:
• Of minimum 2cm plywood if one dimension is 35 cm or less.
• Of 5cm if both dimension exceed 35 cm.
• Clearly marked with “hole cover” sign Roof and Elevated Floor Edges Roof and elevated floor edges must be protected by one of the following:
• Perimeter guardrail
• Temporary rigid barricades Hand Tools & Machine Tools
• The right size spanner to fit the nut shall be used.
• All of the files shall have a handle.
• Chisels and punches with mushroom heads should be ground.
• Hammerheads shall be tightly wedged on their shafts.
• Split wooden handles shall be renewed.
• Edges of cutting tools shall be kept sharp.
• Hands shall be kept behind the cutting edges when working.
• Tools shall be kept in boxes or racks when not in use.
• Sharp edges of tools that are to be stored or carried shall be scrapped.
• Tools that are worn or damaged beyond repair shall be scrapped.
• The correct tools for the work shall be always used.
• Loaning of tools or equipment from other trades is not allowed.
• When working on machines that are provided with safety covers or safety guards, operate these machines only when the guards are in place.
Chemicals
• Chemicals brought to the site must be labeled for its contents & its hazards with protective measures and the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to be provided to the project manager. Common household chemicals are exempted from this requirement.
• Large container of chemicals is not allowed to be brought onto the site. Use small container holding only the enough quantity for the day work. Store flammable chemicals properly and ensure it is capped when not in use
Electrical Safety
• Do not tap electricity directly from the distribution boxes without first informing the Project Manager and landlord management representatives.
• A check for defective cables, plugs & sockets shall be carried out.
• Electrical equipment shall not be overloaded.
• Any equipment that sparks or stalls shall be switched off and disconnected.
• Cables should not trail across the floor.
• The equipment should be disconnected when not in use, cable shall not be pulled to disconnect, the plug shall be pulled.
• Kinking, twisting, binding or crushing of cable should be avoided.
• The operator shall not stand on the wet area while using electrical equipment.
• No bare wires to be installed in plug sockets. Only industrial plugs to be used to install any wires to the sockets.
• Joining of cables/ wires shall not be done with plastic insulation tapes.
• Circuit breaks like MCB,ELCB shall be provided in all local extension D.B And panels
• Multiple connections of cables from one switch is prohibited.
• All connection shall be done by cable glands and lugs
• Cable having ample capacity to the load should be use
• Cable with external damage shall not be used.
• Cable only 3 or 4 core cables shall be used.
• Hand held tools shall be equipped with and operating switch or lever requiring constant hand or finger pressure to operate (Dead-man Switch)
• Do not place liquid chemicals near electrical equipment. Liquids spillage on to electrical equipment could create a fire or electrical hazard.
Tagging
• Safety testing and inspection must be done of all low voltage electrical equipment before being placed into service.
• After inspection and testing it shall be tagged.
• All equipments / machines, scaffoldings etc. must be tagged as “safe for use” after visual inspection before being placed into use.
• A record must be maintained. Fire Safety
• To study the emergency exit floor plan located at the office or work site.
• Do not shut down essential fire fighting system, e.g. sprinkler systems, and fire alarm at any time. If there is a need, coordinate with the Project Manager.
• When detecting a fire, immediately activate the nearest fire alarm by pulling the lever or breaking the glass. Only when it is safe to do so, use fire extinguishers to fight the fire.
• When fire alarm is activated, leave your work area immediately, walk to the nearest emergency exit and report to the designated assembly area.
• All alarms must be regarded as true alarms.
• Only when the ‘all clear’ signal is given by the concerned authority can one re-enter the building. Hot work
• Hot work where sparks or heat is produced (e.g using welding equipment, open flame cutting and incendiary devices) implement safety measures to prevent accident.
• Project Manager shall be informed of the location & duration via a written request at least 1 day before the hot work is done.
• One fire extinguisher must kept at the place of hot work.
• Gas cutting set must have pressure gauge attached with regulator, one for inside pressure and second one for pressure in hosepipe.
• Hose pipe must be clamped with proper clamp.
• Flash back arrester must be provided at both cylinder end and torch end.
• Welding set must have local isolator
• Welding set must be enclosed in a case. Ladders
• Ladders used on site shall be aluminum ladders and to have slip-resistant bases and defect free.
• Inspection of all ladders must be carried out.
• A ladder is considered damaged if it has broken rungs, missing steps or other construction defects.
• Do not stand on on the top two steps of a ladder as it can become unstable. Use ladder of the correct height. Ask for help when in doubt.
• Proper inclination of ladder in ratio of “4:1 = vertical height : horizontal base” is to be maintained.
• Ladders are placed with a secure footing , or they are locked or held in position.
• Ladders used to gain access to a roof or other area extend al least one meter above the top point of the support.
• For temporary work at height use A type aluminum ladder, held on both foot by a worker. Scaffoldings
• Scaffolding erection should be in accordance with the manufacturer’s or supplier’s recommendations.
• Experienced, competent persons should only carry out scaffolding erection.
• The ratio of the minimum base dimension to the height of the working platform should not exceed 1:3 in external use and 1:3.5 in internal use, unless the scaffold is secured to another permanent structure al all times.
• Freestanding scaffolds should not be used above 9.75 m unless tied. The maximum height when tied should not exceed 12m.
• A safe means of access should be provided at the end of the scaffold. This can be a vertical ladder attached internally, by internal stairways, or by ladder sections designed to form part of the frame members. It is not acceptable to climb frame members not designed for the purpose.
• Guardrails, toe-boards or other appropriate means should be provided to prevent the falls of workers and / or materials.
• Trapdoors should be provided in working platforms where internal access is provided.
• Mobile scaffold towers should never be moved while people are still on the platform. This is a significant cause of accidents.
• Ladders or stepladders should not be placed on the top of the platform to gain extra working height. Manual handling
Action to be avoided that may cause manual handling injuries are:-
• Work involving sudden, jerky or hard to control movements or which causes discomfort and pain;
• Work involving too much bending, reaching or twisting;
• Work where a long time is spent holding the same posture or position;
• Work that is fast and repetitious;
• Heavy weights which have to be lifted and carried manually;
• Work where force is needed to carry out a task; When Accident Happens
• When accident, incident or injury happens, all work shall be stopped immediately.
• Attend to the injured first and seek help immediately.
• First aid treatment should be provided even for the slightest injury.
• Work related accidents and injury should be reported immediately to the Project Manager at site.
• All incidents, accidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses must be investigated and reported.
• A brief initial accident report shall be submitted within 24 hours and a detailed report within 72 hours.
• Investigation shall be carried out for injury that resulted in lost working days. Investigation must be forwarded to the Project Manager.
Asbestos
• Use of Asbestos is strictly prohibited.
• If suspect of doing work that involves the removal, encapsulation, maintenance , clean up, transportation, disposal of structures that contain asbestos, must stop work immediately and inform the Project Manager.(such work shall not be undertaken by the contractors but by the Landlord).
Wastes
• All wastes generated as a result of the contract must be removed on a daily or weekly basis. Inform the Project Manager on site when there are hazardous or contaminated wastes to be removed.
