After having an undefeated season the year before, the Colome Cowboys kicked off their season with three se-niors leading the team and a new head coach. The three seniors are Jacob Beckers, James Brumbaugh, and Adam Cole. After filling the role of assistant coach, Gene Bertram is now the head coach of the team. The assistant coach is Terrance Kinzer. To start the season, the Cowboys hosted the Corsica Stickney Jaguars on Aug. 23. Adam Cole started off the season with a 20-yard touchdown. The Jaguars answered back to tie the game. The Cowboys offense would take over with sophomore Riley Shippy rushing for 195-yards on 15 carries and Adam Cole going 51-yards on 9 carries. The Cowboys defense would hold strong until the Jaguar’s offense got away with a 67-yard touchdown. After a goal line stand in a close fought game, the Co-lome Cowboys surpassed the Jaguars 22-18. The Cowboys then traveled to An-des Central the following week to face TDA/AC/DC. Through three quarters of the game it looked as if the cowboys were going to come up with the win leading 12-0. Until TDA started to take control of the Cowboy defense, scoring two touchdowns off a 52-yard, and a 2 yard rush. In the 4th quarter and with the game on the line, the Thunderhawks punched in the two-point conversion to take the lead over the Cowboys and win the game 14-12. Junior Michael Supik went 3 for 9 for 17 yards on passing and sophomore Riley Shippy rushed 20 times for 154 yards. Although this was the first loss for the Cowboys in over a year, they kept their heads high as they marched into next week’s opponent, Platte/Geddes. The Colome Cowboys vs Platte/Ged-des game on Sept. 6 started out as a grudge match in the first quarter, as the

score was 8-8. A few costly mistakes by the Cowboy offense is what led to the downfall of the Cowboys, as a bad snap turned into a touchdown for Platte, followed by a fumble. The Cowboy defense was strong as Riley Shippy had 15 tackles and Michael Supik finished with 14. The Cowboy offense couldn’t keep up with Platte as they ran for over 207 yards and three touchdowns, ulti-mately losing 35-8. On Sept. 13, the Cowboys made the long drive to Irene to face the Irene-Wa-

konda Eagles. Due to the flooding of roads on the east side of the state, the bus trip was a little longer than usual. The Cowboys lost this game with a fi-nal score of 20-40. Rhet Bertram was the leading rusher for the game with 71 yards. He scored two touchdowns. Seegers completed 8 of 16 passes for 120 yards. Jacob Beckers led the team in tackles with 11, followed by Adam Cole with 9. The Cowboys will travel to Burke to face the Cougars on Friday, Sept. 20.
