IMSE WRITERS FELLOWSHIP

IMSE has 3 fellowship opportunities available, which includes full tuition for the identified IMSE’s

executive certificate programs. Selected fellows will work and manage the JFHR- Journalism for

Human Rights online publication. All fellows will be assigned to editor or writer positions for a

period of 2 months of service.

Fellows will have opportunity to take one of the following executive track offerings:

Human Rights and Communications Executive Track 4000

Effective Writing and Media Development Executive Track 20000

Interested candidates should have the following:

Strong writing and editing skill-set,

Desire to write and edit for both an academic journal or e-magazine,

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS Word,

And, the ability to contribute a minimum of 10 hours a week for 2 months.

Requirements

Interested candidates should submit a resume or CV with a cover letter in Microsoft Word,

describing why they would like to be a candidate for the IMSE’s Writers Fellow. Three

Letters of reference in support of their candidacy with full contact details of submitter. In

addition, candidates should submit a 500 word original (not submitted before) article, which

they have written, of a topic of their choice that relates to public or non-profit service.

Article submission should be well cited in APA or Chicago format.

IMSE NON-PROFIT CLINIC FELLOWSHIP

The IMSE NON-PROFIT CLINIC Sponsored by The Global Protection Network is geared toward providing training at no costs for selected fellowship candidates at IMSE in the NGO and Non-Profit Development Executive Track. The goal of this fellowship opportunity is to help non-profit professionals create and implement strong project ideas for humanitarian service.

This fellowship is awarded to 4 candidates twice a year. Fellows will attend online courses in non-profit development, as well as work towards their own submitted project idea in the final phase of the program. Total time invested in this fellowship will be 3 months.

Sessions

April 12, 2012- July 12, 2012: Submissions accepted from December 14, 2011- March 7, 2012.

November 10, 2012- February 10, 2013: Submissions accepted from August 1, 2012 through October 7, 2012

Requirements for participation in this pilot project

Interested candidates should submit:

The IMSE online application;

Resume, CV, or biographical resume;

Three letters of reference with full contact information,

And, a one page letter of interest stating project idea they would like to work on during the fellowship.

The letter of interest should describe the candidate’s background in writing, and their proposed project idea. Selected candidates will have a background in non-profit volunteer service, and a demonstrated ability to start and complete their project.

Fall 2011 Scholarships are now available for application beginning July 1, 2011. Scholarship winners will have proceeds applied toward their fall 2011 semester. Scholarship candidates are required to be enrolled in either an executive certificate program or degree program at IMSE.

The Global Protection Network is offering the following scholarship awards:

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: Human Rights and Communications Executive Track 4000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: United Nations History Executive Track 6000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: Human Rights Independent Studies Executive Track 7000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: Advanced Child Trafficking Executive Track 9000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: Christianity and Human Rights Executive Track 10000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: International Business Leadership Executive Track 18000.

Two scholarship offering 25% tuition assistance in the area of: Indigenous Peoples' Studies Executive Track 21000.

Requirements for application:

Interested candidates should submit their resume with, a 500 word essay or 10 PowerPoint slides

stating the purpose of their studies, and goals on how they will apply their studies to the non-profit

or humanitarian arena.

The Institute for International Multicultural Studies and Ethics offers the following scholarship opportunities for candidates, desiring to serve in the field of humanitarian service as a professional or volunteer in order to make viable contributions to local and international communities

The IMSE Humanitarian Service Scholarship

This scholarship provides for 20% of tuition costs of any registered executive track or degree program at IMSE, and is available for 2 candidates presently serving, or who desire to serve in human rights. This scholarship is offered once a year, and is made available until candidates are selected.

IMSE's Women in Service Scholarship This scholarship provides for 20% of tuition costs of any registered executive track or degree program at IMSE, and is available for women who are employed or volunteer at a humanitarian organization that is geared toward the plight of women in non-profit service. There are 2 available awards for the Women in Service Scholarship.

Victims of Domestic Violence Scholarship This scholarship provides for 50% of tuition costs of any registered executive track or degree program at IMSE, and is available for men or women who have been victims of domestic violence. There are 4 available awards for this Scholarship.

IMSE's Homeland Security Scholarship

This scholarship is available for 2 candidates who seek to serve, or presently serve in Homeland Security. IMSE provides 20% tuition assistance for a candidate enrolled in the Homeland Security executive track or degree program.

IMSE's International Student Scholarship

This scholarship is available for 4 IMSE students who are non U.S. citizens, and reside outside of the U.S. Selected candidates for this scholarship will be awarded 25% toward tuition costs of an enrolled executive certificate or degree program at IMSE.

IMSE's Sustainable Project Scholarship

This scholarship is available for 4 candidates, who wish to create a sustainable project, which will improve their local or international community. Selected candidate will receive 40% tuition assistance towards any IMSE executive track or degree program, which is relative to their proposed project. Candidates are required to identify their project, and time frame for implementation in their letter of interest.

IMSE's SWM (Sports and Wellness Management) Scholarship This scholarship provides for 25% of tuition costs for any athletic coach or sports professional who not only seek to learn about Sports and Wellness Management, but become a vehicle for change on the local, national, or international scale. There are 4 available awards for this Scholarship.

IMSE Against Human Trafficking Scholarship This scholarship is available for 4 candidates who desire to do research, or special projects that fights against human trafficking. Candidates will receive 50% tuition assistance toward any one of the following programs: International Law, Advanced Child Trafficking, and Advanced Studies: International Human Rights Law.

The GPN and IMSE Indigenous Peoples' Scholarship

For students who wish to learn about indigenous cultures in order to serve in their respected communities, and make tangible contributions 4 scholarships are available, which will provide for 50% tuition assistance. Students are required to be enrolled in the IMSE Indigenous Peoples’ Studies and Human Rights Executive Track program or pursuing related studies through the IMSE Master’s or doctoral program. Research projects and volunteer service on a reservation or with a specific identified indigenous group is an accepted area of contribution.

IMSE's Advocates against Animal Abuse Scholarship

This scholarship is available for 4 candidates, who have an interest in learning and serving in the area of animal rights protection. Recipients of this scholarship will receive 50% tuition assistance towards the IMSE Animals Rights Protection and Human Rights Executive Track or NGO and Non-Profit Development Executive Track. Accepted service includes: volunteering at local shelters, community projects, and projects which advance policies of animal rights protection.

IMSE's Writers Scholarship

This scholarship is available for professionals who seek to either improve their writing, or learn more about writing for non-profit, public, or private sector audience. A 20% scholarship is available for 2 students, who enroll in either the Human Rights and Communications or Effective Writing and Media Development Executive Track.

IMSE's Veterans Scholarship This scholarship is made available for 4 Members of the United States Armed Forces ( past or present), who desire to serve in human rights as a volunteer, professional, or work with special human rights related projects. IMSE provides 50% tuition assistance for selected candidates of this scholarship opportunity. For veterans that miss this opportunity, IMSE offers discounted tuition for members (past or present) of the armed forces. Please see the student handbook for more information.

IMSE's Single Parent Scholarship Selected candidates will be a single parent with children under 18 years of age. IMSE offers a 50% tuition assistance scholarship, available for 4 candidates (father or mother) who enroll in any of the IMSE executive certificate or degree programs.

IMSE's Advantage Scholarship

This scholarship is available for 4 candidates, and is based only on economic need. IMSE provides

selected candidates with a 50% scholarship toward the cost of tuition. Interested candidates should

submit a statement of need with their letter of interest.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION FOR ALL IMSE’S ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Interested candidates should complete the IMSE admissions application, and submit a resume, CV,

or biographical resume with a letter of interest, which demonstrates why they would like to be a

candidate for their selected scholarship, and how they will accomplish their professional or personal

goals through their prospective program. Students who are required to create a project or plan from

scholarship, should also provide an outline in MS Word or PowerPoint for review. Scholarship

applicants are required to submit all information as a package.

Procedures for Scholarship Submission

Time frame for submission: Interested candidates can submit as early as July 1, 2011, and

scholarships are available until awarded on a rolling basis.

Special note: Scholarships cannot be applied with other tuition promotions or discounts offered by

IMSE, unless otherwise stated. Students must stay enrolled and complete their program

requirements in order to stay eligible for all IMSE fellowship or scholarship opportunities. Students

who fail to stay enrolled, or meet the program requirements can forfeit their awarded scholarship.

Scholarship recipients will have their award applied directly to their tuition, and cannot be

considered a substitute for any additional monies owed in tuition costs to IMSE.

In addition, each IMSE student can receive a maximum award of 2 scholarships a year. Students can

also check the IMSE News and Events section listed on the IMSE homepage to find out if

additional fellowship or scholarship opportunities are posted after the publication of this guide.
