Introduction

In this PowerPoint about the Ice Age you will learn what started this strange phenomenon. You will also learn what happened to the earth, animals, and other things this Ice Age may effected.

What Caused the Ice Age?

• The Ice Age started all because a bunch of gas, ash, and other things were released into the earth’s atmosphere. What that does is blocks the solar input of the sun’s rays to Earth, and because of that, the earth can’t get warm.

All the places covered in white is where the Ice Age took place.

When did the Ice Age Start?

One of the earliest Ice Ages formed about 2.3-2.7 billion years ago during the Proterozoic Eon. The most recent Ice Age happened about 10,000 years ago.

Ice Age Weather Facts• The estimated temperature of the Ice Age

is 32° Fahrenheit. It also snowed during this time.

• The Ice Age covered 1/3 of the earth’s surface.

• The glacial ice eroded a lot of land, creating deep valleys and cliffs. The scars from the erosion are still seen today.

People of the Ice Age Around 10,000 years ago people of the Ice Age moved

around a lot, similar to the native Americans. They did this because they followed large animals like wooly mammoths. They caught these animals with large traps people made. When they caught them they ate them and used the animal’s bones as tools like spears, knives, and utensils. It was also very cold so people used animal skins to keep themselves warm. People could also migrate to Africa where it was warm. People lived in caves and painted pictures on the walls; that’s how we can identify that they lived that long ago. Ice Age cave

Animals of the Ice Age

Many animals that lived during the Ice Age are extinct today. This includes 13 different species of animals. Although, the surviving species live in the north. During the Ice Age many animals traveled to different countries that were warm so that they could live and not become extinct.

Other Parts of the World The Ice Age didn’t happen all over the world, it only happened in the north part of the northern hemisphere, and the south part of the southern hemisphere. These are the places that hold ice sheets that store the gases that block the sun from overheating Earth. Although other places in the world were warmer, that’s where people would go if they were cold.
