This Teacher’s Guide Module entitled “Human Senses for Grade Three” is part of the requirements in Educational Technology 2 under the revised curriculum for Bachelor in Elementary Education based on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO)-30, Series of 2004. Educational Technology 2 is a three (3)-unit course designed to introduce both traditional and innovative technologies to facilitate and foster meaningful and effective learning where students are expected to demonstrate a sound understanding of the nature, application and production of the various types of educational technologies.

The students are provided with guidance and assistance of selected faculty members of the College through the selection, production and utilization of appropriate technology tools in developing technology-based teacher support materials. Through the role and functions of computers especially the Internet, the student researchers and the advisers are able to design and develop various types of alternative delivery systems. These kind of activities offer a remarkable learning experience for the education students as future mentors especially in the preparation of instructional materials.

The eyes are organs of seeing. It is specially made to see the beauty of our surroundings. You have two eyes. Each of your eyes has the same parts

Eyes are the windows into mind through body. They have their role to play as the connection between the two.

1. Iris is the colored part of the eye: brown, green, blue, etc. It is a ring of muscle fibers located behind the cornea and in front of the lens. It contracts and expands opening and closing the pupil, in response to the brightness of surrounding light. Just as the aperture in a camera protects the film from over exposure, the iris of the eye helps protect the sensitive retina.

2. Eyelids protect and lubricate our eyes. Small oil-producing glands line the inner edge of our eyelids. These oils mix with tears when we blink, keeping the eye moist and clean.

3. Pupil is the hole in the center of the iris that light passes through. The iris muscles control its size.

4. Sclera is the white, tough wall of the eye. It along with internal fluid pressure keeps the eye shape and protects its delicate internal parts.

7. Cornea is a clear layer at the front-center of the eye that focuses light before lens does so.8.The optic nerve carries electrical signals from your retina to your brain so you can see

When you look at a tree, the light that shine on your eyes. As light rays enter both of your eyes, the cornea and the lens bend them. The light rays cross and focus on the retina. Use good lighting to avoid tiring your eyes when reading, writing or cruising the Internet

Tell your parents, school nurse or teachers if your eyes are bothering you.

Wear proper eye protection when you are doing hazardous hobbies, chores or mixing chemicals.

It is also a good idea to get your eyes examined regularly. Your body has some "built-in" devices to protect your eyes such as:

•Bony sockets: your eyes are located in bony sockets to protect them from getting hit. •Eyebrows: your eyebrows are used to keep the light out. •Eyelids: your eyelids can close to keep small objects out of your eyes. •Eyelashes: eyelashes also keep small objects out of your eyes. •Tears: tears keep your eyes moist and work to wash small objects out of your eyes.

Ears are shaped like seashells shaped. This is the best in picking up sound.

Sounds travel like waves. When sound waves enter the outer ear they passed through the canal and strike the eardrum. When the eardrum moves or vibrates, it moves the tiny bones nearest to it. This bone, in turn moves the second bone which in turn, moves the third bone. When this membrane vibrates, the fluid in cochlea moves. The nerve cells then send the message to the brain which tells you what you hear.

We hear soft and loud sounds. Too loud noise can hurt and damage our eardrum. Loud sounds can cause noise pollution. These objects and animals make loud sounds.

Your ears can easily be injured with pointed objects and foreign bodies. When tiny insects and dirt enter the ear, they may cause much pain.

The smell of things is in form of gas. It is carried in the air you breathe air.

When you smell fried chicken, for example, the gas that enters your nose activates the nerve cells in the lining of the nose. The nerve cells carry the message to the brain. The brain tells you that it is fried chicken you smell.

The soft, movable organ in the mouth is called tongue. The tongue is use for tasting. We cannot eat and taste food without our tongue. We will discover a lot of things about our little tongue and on the end of each lesson you’ll shall answer some interesting questions and do some fun activities.

Which part of the body/your body helps you describe the taste of an object?

We taste with our tongue. The nose helps in telling the taste of an object. That is why we cannot eat well when we have cold.

Foods, beverages and other objects have different tastes. We cannot taste only four different flavors – salty, bitter, sweet and sour. We may taste combinations of all these.

The taste buds are on the surface of your tongue. It helps you tell the taste of drinks, food, and other objects.

The skin in an organ that covers the whole body of a person or animal. It is also the largest among the organs. The skin is considered as the organ of touch of humans and animals. And like the other chapters, you’ll answer and do some exercises that will help you understand more the skin.

In this chapter the students will be able to: Know the parts and function of the skin. Learn the importance of the skin.

The skin protects you, now read this to know

some ailments and treatments.

SOME SKIN AILMENTS:

1. Skin allergy can cause rashes, uncomfortness and itch.2. Infection can cause serious complications if not treated with first aid or cleaned with water.

HOW TO TREAT THEM:

To avoid these slight illness/ailments, do not closer to a place full of small insects and unknown plants just to avoid skin allergy and infections. Avoid getting wound/s and for the infection/s tell your parents to bring you to the doctor if the wound made you feel uncomfortable.

1.To avoid infection/s don’t clean the wound.

2. For caring of your skin put a lotion (sun screen/sun block) for sunlight protection.

3. To avoid skin allergy keep away from unknown plants and insects that will cause you itchiness/allergy.
