literate to be successful in the 21st century. • Goal 2: Assure equity and access to

technology-enhanced curriculum and resources district-wide.

Strategies to Achieve LRSPT Goals

Teaching and Learning: • (for Goal 1): Provide a guide for lesson planning

with technology integration recommended by the district .

• (for Goal 2): Employ a technological devices, i.e. student eportfolios, to create a digital learning environment that improves student achievement and develops 21st century technology skills.

• (for Goal 3): Implement innovative programs that promote parental involvement and support increased home-school communication.

Educator Preparation: • Goal 4: Create a roadmap to provide anytime,

anywhere, professional development for teachers, administrators, and support staff to facilitate a technology-enhanced learning environment.

• Goal 5: Increase the amount of training received by all educators on innovative and effective strategies for technology integration in order to increase student achievement.

Educator Preparation: • (for Goal 4): Increase educator preparation

delivery models, (i.e. webinars, podcasts, 24/7 on-line training courses, RSS feeds, interactive staff meetings, etc.) for professional development to integrate technology.

• (for Goal 5): Devote a minimum of one staff meeting per month solely to technology training on the tools to integrate technology applications into the TEKS.

• Goal 6: Develop a comprehensive, ongoing, Long Range Technology Planning process that includes input from all stake holders, meets all local, state, and federal requirements, and creates a positive district culture.

• Goal 7: Encourage community interaction in HISD's educational programs in order to improve public support and confidence in schools.

• Goal 8: Identify and implement instructional programs that extend instruction beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom through the increased use of technology.

• Goal 9: Provide technology tools to increase management efficiency and to support data-driven, sound, decision-making.

Leadership, Administration, and Support:• (for Goal 6): Incorporate instructional technology resources

as an integral component in the design of all new and modernized schools and classrooms.

• (for Goal 7): Develop policies and procedures, including secure and restricted access, to facilitate the full deployment and use of a web- based portal for 24/7, year round, access to individual student information, school news

• (for Goal 8): Form a partnership with schools of higher education, inviting their staff to provide lessons to HISD students, and to facilitate more two-way communication with institutions

• (for Goal 9): Provide campus counselors with a technology-based system for gathering and reporting data on each student that is designed to provide early indicators of potential "drop outs" so that pro-active interventions may be provided.

Infrastructure for Technology :

• Goal 10: Align the district’s applications into a centralized, secure, integrated system that combines all data to provide a single, reliable, source for all departments.

• Goal 11: Expand the reach and capacity of HISD’s network to provide a secure and robust infrastructure that supports teaching and learning.

• Goal 12: Create a strategy to optimize network infrastructure and the operation and management thereof, making it more agile, efficient, and secure.

• Goal 13: Reduce the environmental footprint of HISD’s technology infrastructure.

Strategies to Achieve LRSPT Goals

Infrastructure for Technology :

• (for Goal 10): Continue to develop and incorporate state-of- the-art firewall support, Internet filtering, virus protection, and wireless security into the district's network operations

• (for Goal 11): Ensure equity of access for all staff and students to the Internet by continuing to upgrade, support, and maintain network hardware and software, telecommunication systems, licenses, service fees and, contracts.

• (for Goal 12): Research, develop, and implement a virtualization strategy through a reduction of hardware, software, and services.

• (for Goal 13): Facilitate a migration from a "paper- based" District to an electronic document-based District
