The Horribly Engaging
Anthology of Intriguing Poetry
By Monique Chauvier
EKPHRASTIC
The Ocean War
The sea is brewing for its attack
The sand is bringing up a defence
As the storm comes to claim the
dunes
The sand only acts as a weak fence
The oceans churning and raging
As the dolphins bring up the rear
The solider crabs enter
first
But are not easily getting
near
The ocean swirls and hurls
its attack
It brings home the dunes
as a reward
‘THE RED WHEEL BARROW’
‘The Small black Book’
So much depends upon
A small black book
Sits in the corner of the room
Next to a sleeping child
‘The multi coloured pen’
So much depends upon
My multi coloured pen
So many different colours
But what good is yellow ink

STRUCK BY A MOMENT
A Summers Day at the Beach
The burning hot heat
Cooked my feet
As I walked on the white burning
sand
There were big and small grains
As my feet were in pain
Where the ocean meets the land
Through the wings
The eagle was flying high
A thousand feet into the sky
Blocking the sun light
The sun is spreading though its
wings
As I’m sitting on my rickety
swing
The sinking sunset tells me it’s
almost night
SONG LYRIC
Alarm I was sitting in my bed;
Waiting for the sun to rise I heard a piercing screech
Coming from my alarm clock
I am now sitting upMy heart is beating fast
The clock gave me a frightIt’s still the middle of the
night
Mum came barging in screaming
‘What is the racket?’ I told her my story and she left
me alone
I am now thinking what to do In my bed to try to get to sleepWhen mum enters again and tells my to get up for school
I am wondering how fast the time has gone since the episode
of the night
