THE VILLAGE REPORTER
MONTPELIER, March 6, 2014 - Montpelier held
their annual Winter Sports Awards on Thursday,
March 6 at the high school auditorium, hosted by
Joe Brigle, Montpelier High School Athletic Director.
Leading the awards, Marinna Mercer and ReganSteffes were named Scholar Athletes, each receiving
their second award for this honor. Both Mercer and
Steffes are members of the Varsity Girls Basketball
team.
In Cheerleading, Senior Hope Scholma was
named the squads MVP while Kayla Schlosser took
home the Most Spirited Award. Also on the Varsity
Squad, Madaline Eitniear was named the Most Im-
proved and Emily Kolbe received the varsity Coach-
es Award. For the JV Squad, Caitlyn Nixon was
named Most Spirited and Alyssa Stoy was honored
as the Most Improved.
For Boys Basketball, Senior Parker Houk was
honored with both the Howard Bliss MVP Award
and the Derrick Miller Award while Nate McCordtook home the Varsity Hustle Award. Jared Lyons
was named as the Varsity Most Improved for the2014 season. Taking home JV honors, Dalton Sur-
bey was named the JV MVP and Gunnar Matson
was honored with the Most Improved Award.
In Girls basketball, both Marinna Mercer and
Regan Steffes were named as Co-Coaches Award
winners while Baylee Hageman and Hannah Blake
shared honors as Co-MVPs for the season. Bre-
anna Stein was recognized with the Hustle Award
along with teammate Malorie Yagalski, who was
named the 2014 seasons Most Improved.
On the Wrestling team, senior Sean Taylor took
home the Most Takedowns for the season and was
also named as the team MVP. Hunter McKelvey re-
ceived this years Coaches Award and Keaton Byers
was named as the Most Improved Wrestler for the
season.
Receiving Conference Awards for the 2014 sea-
son, Parker Houk received NWOAL Honorable Men-tion on the Boys team while Baylee Hageman on the
Girls Team was also named NWOAL Honorable Men-
tion. Hannah Blake was named 2nd team NWOAL
for the season.

THE VILLAGE REPORTER
PIONEER, March 13,2014 - The
North Central Athletic Department held
their annual Winter Sports Awards for
the 2013-2014 season on March 13 in
the schools Gymnasium. High School
Principal Tim Rettig kicked off the eve-nings awards with a motivational talk
to the parents and students, outlin-
ing the Athletic Department goals and
praising this years athletes for their ef-
fort and dedication. One statistic point-
ed out during the opening introduction
to this years awards ceremony related
to student academic achievement; 40
of the 55 student participating in Win-
ter Athletics maintained a 2.9 or better
GPA throughout the season, with 12
students named to this Winters BBC
Scholar Athlete recognition.
Students named to this years BBC
Winter Scholar Athlete list includes:
Cheerleading-Jessica Echler, Nicole
Myers, and Zoe Koch. From the Girls
Basketball Squad-Jaclyn Kinsman, Ab-bey Litzenberg, Hannah Siekemeyer,
Emerald Newton and Sabrina Pickford.
From the Boys Basketball Team-Dylan
Hutchinson, Branden Turner, Jordan
Bailey and Brady Zuver. Kinsman and
Siekemeyer were also recognized by Dis-
trict 7 as Scholar Athletes along with
Turner and Hutchison from the Boys
Team.
In Varsity Cheerleading, this years
Eagle Leadership Award was presented
to Alaina Kemarly, while the Most Im-
proved Cheerleader Award went to Ve-
ronica Finch. The Dedication Award
went to Nicole Myers; Katie Masters
took home the Sportsmanship Award,
and Zoe Koch rounded out the list of
awardees with the 2014 Spirit Award.
In Girls Basketball, Abbey Litzenberg
was awarded both the Top Rebounder
Award along with the Best Free Throw
Percentage Award. This years Most
Improved Player was awarded to Alys-
sa Swank while the seasons Hustle
Award was presented to Sabrina Pick-
ford. Rounding out the special awards
for Girls Basketball, Hannah Siekemey-er was given the Eagle Award for her
valuable contribution and leadership
throughout the season. Recognized by
the BBC, Sabrina Pickford was named
2nd Team All BBC, while Hannah Sieke-
meyer received BBC Honorable Mention.
The Girls Basketball Team also received
their nal words of encouragement from
Head Coach Steve Bowling, who will be
stepping down as Head Coach after ve
years of service to the Lady Eagles.
Rounding out the evenings awards,
the Boys Basketball Team received
their nal departing words of thanks
and encouragement from Head Coach
Justin Houk for the season, commend-
ing the team for a very tough nish to
the season by winning ve of their last
eight on the year, while making a verygood showing in the BBC Tournament
to close out the season. Recognized for
their Defensive Hustle this year, team-
mates Josh Sawyer and Branden Turn-
er split the Defensive/Husle Award,
while Senior Chase Legacy was named
this years Most Improved Award, along
with being recognized with the 2014 Re-
bounding Award. This years Eagle Eye
Sharp Shooter Award was presented to
Dylan Hutchison, while the 2014 Eagle
Award went to Clayton Hutchison.
The North Central Athletic Depart-
ment will host Media Day for their Spring
Athletes on Wednesday, March 19, kick-
ing off the Spring Sports Season.

LIBERTY CENTER: February 25,2014 The Wauseon 5th grade LittleIndians Boys Basketball teams playedin the Liberty Center Youth Basket-ball tournament on February 22. Bothteams nished the day with a combinedrecord of 8-0.
The White Team defeated Napoleon,Delta, Holgate and Swanton on their wayto the tournament nals, while the RedTeam defeated Swanton, Liberty Center,Patrick Henry and Napoleon on theirway to the tournament nals. With bothWauseon teams making it to the nals,
Wauseon was determined to be Champi-
ons of the Liberty Center Tournament.Every player put forth a great effort in
helping both teams to a successful tour-nament. Montpelier Takes Second, Stryker FourthAt The Panther Archery Tournament
STRYKER: March 15, 2014 - Eight
high school teams converged on the
Stryker High School gymnasium to take
part in the Stryker Panther Archery
Invitational on March 15.
The heavily favored and most well
established Fairview Apaches team
came away with first place in the event,
but not without having to escape the
Montpelier Locomotives who placed a
close second. Fairview racked up a team
score of 3,268, leaving them a scant 38
points better than Montpeliers 3,230.
The hometown Stryker squad placed
fourth with 3,130 points, but still
brought home high honors in the pro-
cess. Strykers Hayden Clingaman took
home the gold medal for the top high
school boys score with 281 points, and
Daniel Fether won the second place sil-
ver by a shoot-off and 280 points. Brock
ONeall and Casey Clark of Montpelier
finished in fourth and fifth place overall.
On the girls side, Gabby Stuckey
won the individual first place gold medal
for Stryker with 285 points. Lita Banks
of Montpelier finished fifth overall indi-
vidually with a score of 280.
Five teams vied for the top spot in
the junior high ranks, with Montpelier
again placing second with 2,965 points
and Stryker taking third with 2,785.
Weston Dick of Montpelier placed
first overall in the junior high boys indi-
vidual ranks with a 280 score, with
Chris Moor finishing fourth at 273, and
Logan Dick placing sixth with 270.
In the junior high girls ranks it was
Arie Merillat making it a clean sweep of
the first place gold for Montpelier with a
score of 273. Ashley Caudill of Montpelier
finished second with 262 and Caitlyn
Lyons of Stryker finished in fifth with
252 points.
