Day 2: Arrive Tel Aviv/ Transfer to Jerusalem: We arrive in Tel Aviv and are met by our guide, Canon Iyad Qumri. We are transferred to our hotel in Jerusalem. Introductions.Dinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 3: Sunday Eucharist/ Horizons of Jerusalem: Sunday morning Eucharist at 9:30am in St. George’s Cathedral. Lunch. Afternoon: Mount Scopus, view the Judean desert, Mount of Olives, City of David.Guest Speaker: Contemporary Issues- a Palestinian PerspectiveDinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 4: Judean Desert/ Mount of Temptation/Jericho/ Nazareth: Travel to Wadi Qelt early morning to watch the sunrise, get the feel for the desert, and for silent reflection. Depart for Jericho to hike up Mount of Temptation and view Tell Jericho. Lunch in Nazareth. Visit Mary’s Well, the site of the only spring-fed fountain in the city, and most likely the place Mary would have gone to draw water. We visit the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation where we will have an opportunity for an introduction to the Icon. We then follow on foot the path to the Latin Church of the Annunciation, the traditional site of the Angel Gabriel’s appearance to Mary, telling her she would conceive Jesus, the Emmanuel.Dinner and overnight at the Sisters of the Nazareth

Day 1: Travel to Tel Aviv

Join the Rev. Canon John L. Peterson and enter into a laboratory where the Divine Drama of our faith unfolds. Exploring the land, geography, history, and first century culture offers a unique lens that informs and transforms our reading of scripture and current events today. Be prepared to step into the first century and walk the way of Jesus and the early Christian Church. You will not only visit holy sites; but most importantly, you will inhabit the sites as a pilgrim and open yourself to a life changing experience.

Pilgrimage Highlights

Day 5: Sepphoris/ Caesarea Philippi: Depart for Zippori, Sepphoris, where we explore the excavations of the Roman/ Byzantine city. Lunch. Depart for Caesarea Philippi (Banias) “and Jesus went on with his disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that I am?’”Dinner and overnight at the Sisters of the Nazareth

Day 6: Jordan River/ Capernaum/ Mount of Beatitudes: Today, we depart for the Sea of Galilee-Lake Kinnereth stopping at the Jordan River for the renewal of Baptismal vows. We then visit Cappernaum where we see the Ancient Synagogue and St. Peter’s House. We continue to the Mount of the Beatitudes. Lunch is by the Sea of Galilee, followed by a visit to Tabgha (Heptapegon), The Loaves and Fishes Church and the Chapel of St. Peter’s Primacy. Return to Nazareth.After dinner a treat you will not want to miss!Dinner and overnight at Sisters of Nazareth

Day 7: Mount Tabor/ Qumran/ Dead Sea: This morning we depart for Mount Tabor then continue to Jerusalem via the Jordan Valley. Lunch in Qumran, and visit the site of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. We continue to the Dead Sea, where you will have the option to swim- or really float (Rocky Beach)Dinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 8: Tekoa/ Bethlehem: We depart to Tekoa the home of the prophet Amos and then visit the Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society. Lunch in Beit Sahour. Visit the Church of the Nativity located in Manger Square and the Oldest Church in Christendom. Constructed by Constantine in AD 326, it is the traditional site of the Nativity. Following our visit to the church we will visit the Peace Center which is situated in the heart of Bethlehem, directly between the Church of the Nativity and the Mosque of Omar in Manger Square. The Peace Center stands as a symbol of this West Bank city’s reputation for coexistence, and is one of the premier cultural institutions and performance venues in Palestine. Day 9: Old City/ Church of The Holy Sepulcher: Group Photo. Briefing for the Holy Sepulcher. We then walk the Cardo to the Constantinian Entrance of the Holy Sepulcher. Lunch at the Lutheran Hospice and then continue our visit to the Holy Sepulcher.Guest Speaker: Contemporary Issues- an Israeli PerspectiveDinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 10: Zababdeh/ Jacob’s Well: Depart for Zababdeh and Eucharist at St. Matthew’s Church. Lunch in Zababdeh. Meet with Fr. Salim Dawani, tour the Penman Clinic. We then visit St. Photini (the Greek Orthodox Monastery). St. Photini lived in first century Palestine. She was the Samaritan woman who Christ visited at the well asking her for water. The church is built over Jacob’s well and we will tour the church and drink from the Well.Guest Speaker: Lecture on IslamDinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 13: Way of the Cross/ Emmaus: Early this morning we walk and pray the Way of the Cross. We depart for Emmaus Nicopolis and will celebrate the Eucharist at the ruins of the Byzantine Church.Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for afternoon/evening departures

Day 12: Beth-Phage/Dominus Flevit/Gethsemane/ Mount Zion: Depart for Beth-phage. Here we will begin the Palm Sunday Procession. We will stop at Pater Noster and Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over the city. It is known as Dominus Flevit [Latin for “The Lord wept”]. Afterward, we will walk to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations. After lunch we visit the site of Caiaphas’ Palace where Jesus experienced the Jewish portion of His trial. The site is known today as St. Peter in Galicantu [“crowing rooster”]Dinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Day 11: Western Wall/ Dome of the Rock: We depart for the Western Wall near Elharam Esh Sharif (The Dome of The Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque), St. Anne’s Church and the pools of Bethesda. Lunch at the Qumris in JerichoDinner and overnight at Saint George’s Guest House

Included in the Pilgrimage costs are room and board, transportation in comfortable deluxe buses, guiding fees, all entrance fees mentioned in the itinerary, guest speakers, portage at all hotels, tips for restaurant and hotel staff, bus driver and guide tips, and farewell dinner.

A $500 donation is included in your non-refundable deposit. This is a tax deductible donation to Washington National Cathedral (tax deduction given in fiscal year 2015).

Refunds are available as follows: Full refund before April 24, half refund before May 22, and quarter refund before June 19. No refunds will be given for cancellations after June 19. The $800 deposit is non-refundable

Not Included in the Pilgrimage costs are airfare, medical insurance, travel insurance, and personal expenses.

Your flight to the Holy Land must be scheduled on September 4th arriving September 5. Details concerning flight information and recomendations will be given to you following your registration. Due to national interest in this pilgrimage, you will be responsible for booking your flight to Tel Aviv.

Your passport must be valid 6 months prior to the pilgrimage (March 4, 2015) and cannot expire prior to March 2016 in order to be admitted through Israeli customs. No exceptions are made for this policy.

The cost of the pilgrimage is $3,995 per pilgrim. An $800 non-refundable deposit secures your place on the pilgrimage.

Single rooms are available on a limited basis, and require a supplemental fee of $520. You must request a single room on the registration form.

Payment schedule is as follows: $800 non-refundable deposit upon registration. $1,745 due by April 17. Full payment (including $520 single supplement if applicable) due by May 15, 2015.
