During Hurricane Season,Be Prepared
The first step to prepare for ahurricane is to understand whathazards threaten your family and yourhome. Based on your vulnerability tostorm surges, flooding and wind, create a plan for your family in case ahurricane watch or warning is issued.Store essential items and have themready. Supplies include:
• Water (at least three gallonsper person).
• Nonperishable food.• First-aid kit and any prescription
medications.• Battery-powered weather radio.• Important documents. It is also important to listen to local
officials; if evacuation is advised, follow your plan and leaveimmediately. By planning ahead andpaying attention to your surroundings, you can keep yourself and your familysafe during a disaster.

PET OF THE MONTHThis is Shelby, a 7-year-old Sheltie
who was rescued by Louisiana SheltieRescue and now has her forever
home thanks to this wonderfulorganization. She can usually be seen
working the weekends at NOLADOGS Treats & Boutique at 813
Royal Street (between Dumaine andSt. Ann) where she greets guests and
friends and acts as their QualityControl Manager. If you are thinking ofadopting a companion animal or your
new best friend, Shelby asks to pleaseconsider a “senior” pet! Check out
http://srdogs.com. There is lots of lifeleft in these wonderful animals and
Shelby (being a “senior” herself) canmost certainly attest to that!!
