The History of Miles College
Just the Beginning O Miles College was founded in 1898 by the
Colored Methodist Episcopal Church (Now the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, also known as the C.M.E. Church)
O The college was named after Bishop William H. Miles
O The college is still supported by and affiliated with the CME church
O Originally located in ThomasvilleO Moved to Fairfield, AL in the Spring of 1907

• Elected Bishop in 1870
• Saw the church as a source of spiritual
solace for freed slaves
• Was a central figure in the CME church until
his death in 1892.
