While Rajouri dis-trict of Jammu divisiontoday recorded firstCOVID-19 death, tak-ing the toll to 53 inJ&K, 156 new positivecases - Jammu division- 88, Kashmir - 68 -took the number ofpeople infected withthe disease in the UT to4,730.
Official sources said a65-year-old man from Sial-sui village of Kalakote, Ra-jouri, died at GMCH here.He was referred to GMCH,Jammu, six days ago withsome injuries. However, helater tested positive forCOVID-19.
It was the first COVID-19death in Rajouri district,the sources added.
With this, 17 people have
lost their lives due toCOVID-19 in one week and37 in 23 days in J&K.
Of the total 4,730 cases,2,591 are active positive(Jammu division - 738,Kashmir - 1,853), 2,086have recovered (Jammudivision - 353, Kashmir -1,733) and 53 have died(Jammu division - 6, Kash-mir - 47).
Jammu district todayrecorded 8 cases, Ramban- 21, Kathua - 26, Udham-pur - 0, Samba - 14, Poonch- 12, Doda - 3, Reasi - 1,Kishtwar - 1 and Rajouri -2, according to official me-dia bulletin on coron-avirus.

NEW DELHI, JUNE12:In the wake of ongoingborder standoff betweentroops of India and Chinaalong LAC, Defence Minis-ter Rajnath Singh todayheld a meeting with Chief ofDefence Staff, Gen BipinRawat and the services
chiefs to review the situa-tion in eastern Ladakh,where China has created amajor military buildupalong the Line of ActualControl (LAC).
This was the secondmeeting between the de-fence minister, CDS andservice chiefs - Army chiefGeneral Mukund Naravane,IAF chief Rakesh KumarSingh Bhadauria and Navychief Admiral KarambirSingh - on the Ladakh situa-tion within a week. The lastmeeting was held on June 8.

A day after Naik Gurcha-ran Singh was martyred inunprovoked Pak shelling inNowshera sub-sector of Ra-jouri, Pakistan today againheavily shelled LoC fromPoonch to Uri, targeting for-ward Indian positions andhamlets, resulting in thedeath of a woman and criti-cal injuries to two others.
Official sources said Pak-istan started shelling for-ward Indian posts and bor-der villages in Hajipeer areaof Kashmir's Uri district atabout 8 am.
As some shells explodedin Uri's Batha Gram village,a woman, who was identi-fied as Akhtar Begum (40),wife of Zahoor Ahmad, andtwo others sustained severesplinter injuries. While thewoman died later, the in-jured were admitted to hos-pital, the sources added.
The heavy shelling causedpanic in the villages ofBatha Gram, Torna, Hath-langa, Churanda and Go-hallan along the LoC at Uri.
India retaliated strongly.Casualty, if any, on the Pakside was not immediatelyknown, sources said.
Pakistan also heavilyshelled Kirni and Qasba ar-eas of Poonch in Jammu,targeting forward Indianposts and villages.
"Pakistan initiated un-provoked ceasefire violationby firing with small armsand intense shelling withmortars along the LoC inKirni and Qasba areas ofPoonch at about 4.15 pm,"Defence Spokesperson, LtCol Devender Anand said.

On April 30, one GulfrazAhmad (18) was killed andanother injured critically af-ter Pak shells hit their Tainhamlet in Mankote area ofPoonch.
April 15, MohammadRafiq, son of Ali HayderKhan and Sania Shabir (13),daughter of MohammadShabir, both residents ofKhorinar, Rajdhani, wereinjured in Pak shelling inManjakote area of Rajouri.

With COVID-19 stillshowing no signs of reced-ing, a total of 2,30,505 peo-ple had been put undermedical observation in theUT of J&K till this evening.
According to the dailyMedia Bulletin on NovelCoronavirus, 2,30,505 peo-ple were under medical ob-servation in J&K, 41,964under home quarantine (in-cluding facilities operatedby government), 2,591 inhospital isolation, 31 in hos-pital quarantine and 55,738under home surveillance.1,30,128 people had com-pleted their mandatory sur-
veillance period and re-turned homes.
"Of the total samples sentfor testing, the governmenthad till this evening re-ceived 2,54,059 results. Ofthem, 2,49,329 have testednegative and 4,730 havetested positive. Globallycoronavirus has impactedseveral lives and is steadilyincreasing its reach," thebulletin said.
Advising people to avoidgoing to crowded places, thegovernment today calledupon them to not take coro-navirus lightly and strictlyfollow social distancingwhen they go out of homes.
The government asked
people to maintain socialdistancing, saying it is keyto prevent the spread ofCOVID-19 from those whoare infected to those whoare not infected.
People have also beenasked to avoid close contactwith anyone who has feverand cough. In case anyonedevelops fever, cough anddifficulty in breathing, seekmedical advice promptly,reads the bulletin.
