Jim Brown Chair of the Corporation

Yana Williams Principal and Chief Executive

The last three years have seen significant change at Hugh Baird College. Greater focus by staff and managers on ensuring wedeliver for our learners, employers and community while dealing withsignificant cuts in funding, demonstrates the high levels of achievementand improvement we have made. I am delighted that the OfstedInspection Report acknowledges our improvements and, on behalf of theBoard of Governors, I would like to congratulate the hard working staff andmanagement team at the College. However, we can improve and we arealready acting on points raised in the Report. I can categorically state thatwe will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do and deliver firstclass education, skills and training to all our stakeholders.

Our latest Ofsted Inspection Report reflects our passion andcommitment to the development of the students who choose to cometo Hugh Baird College. It also supports the continuous improvementstrategies we have put in place as we strive to achieve ‘Outstanding’ status.Since we were last inspected, we have focused on raising teaching andlearning standards, improving GCSE maths and English and the work we dowith employers. These are all key areas that enable our learners to developthe skills they need to enter employment or progress to higher educationand, thanks to our recently launched Hugh Baird 14-16 College, this journeycan now start much earlier. As an organisation, we have long been knownas a college that cares about the wellbeing and safety of our student bodyand I am delighted that the Inspectors identified this as one of our majorstrengths.

Whatemployers say

14

I have worked with Hugh Baird College for more than two years now and what strikes me is the level ofcommitment and desire its staff have when it comes to ensuring the success of their learners. The studentsI’ve worked with are polite, respectful and really want to learn. These are qualities that their tutors havehelped to instil in them.

I have employed two students from the College and I have to say that they really did hit the ground running. Not just with their hand skills, but also, and more importantly, in their work ethic and attitude. As an employer, that’s what I look for first. Hugh Baird College is a college on the up and I am delighted to be a part of that journey.

Whatemployers say

We have worked with Hugh Baird College for a number of years, and the service we have received has beenexceptional on every occasion. Whenever we have a training need, we pick up the phone and call HughBaird College.

They are key partners to ensuring the continuous professional development of our staff. Regular meetings takeplace in their Business Development Centre and staff think innovatively about the training solutions they canprovide. These solutions are not always off the shelf and, on a number of occasions, the team at Hugh BairdCollege have developed bespoke training packages to meet our needs.

I was delighted to hear about their “Good” grading from Ofsted and would have no hesitation in recommendingtheir service to another employer.
