2010 Honda Odyssey

When you’re transporting “precious cargo”, you expect top safety features. The Escape compact SUV has standard features including anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control. Combined, they help drivers maintain control during accident avoidance maneuvers. The Escape has six airbags, including a pair of two-row side-curtain airbags.

While test results for the 2010 Escape have yet to be revealed, the 2009 model earned the highest rating by the National Highway Safety Administra-tion (NHTSA): Five stars for all crash test results. It also earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) coveted Top Safety Pick award. With excellent power, good fuel economy and top-level safety, the 2010 Ford Escape is showing the way for SUVs of the future.

Standard on the Escape is the 171-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. This engine was new in 2009 and boasts more horsepower and better mileage than the four-cylinder engine it replaced.

Better fuel mileage is not the only way the 2010 Escape is helping the environment: its seat cushions are made with a soy-based foam rather than the conventional petroleum-derived product. In addition some seat fabrics are made from 100 percent post-industrial materials. Leather-trimmed seating surfaces are also optional. The Escape is available in three congurations: Escape XLS, mid-level Escape XLT, and fully equipped Escape Limited.

The 2010 Ford Escape includes a few changes including a revised latch switch for the rear liftgate, side step bars, roof rails on certain models and new, Federally mandated rear head restraints. A rearview camera, a rarity in this vehicle class, is available as an option.

The sleek lines and aerodynamic styling of the Odyssey stand out from the rest of the minivan pack. While a “soccer mom” would certainly love it, it’s not just for them.

The minivan is known for its ultra-modern styling. The hood and tailgate spoiler convey a sense of strength and integrity, while aerodynamic lines command attention. Visibility to other drivers is enhanced by Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The Honda Odyssey is the embodiment of peace of mind. An array of standard safety features stands ready on all trims to help protect you and your family wherever you roam. In fact, the Odyssey earned a ve-star rating in frontal- and side-impact tests performed by the (NHTSA).

The interior of the Odyssey offers a level of innovation and technology that is unexpected in a minivan. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® Technology (models with Navigation) lets you make and receive calls with your compatible cell phone while your hands stay on the wheel. An MP3/auxiliary input jack is standard on all models. The Odyssey is equally comfortable. Your friends and family will love the passenger’s seat with 4-way power adjustment (EX-L and Touring) and tri-zone automatic climate control is standard on EX and above models. New for 2010, is the Honda DVD Rear Entertain-ment System (EX, EX-L, standard on Touring) which will be available on the lower-priced EX model in addition to EX-L models. With a nine-inch display, this system lets rear passen-gers enjoy a movie or even a video game. When DVD-equipped, a 115-volt outlet in the third row lets you plug in your video-game console or laptop.

This month, The High Road takes a look at two vehicles known for functionality and space. The 2010 Honda Odyssey and 2010 Ford Escape make the perfect vehicle choice for a broad spectrum of drivers. In line with our “Motherhood” theme, however, we’ll explain why modern moms especially, should take a second look at them.

The 2010 Ford Escape and 2010 Honda Odyssey are both available now at the Triple J Auto Group. Triple J has three locations: in front of Kmart, beside McDonald’s in Tamuning, and at the used car lot along Airport Road. For more information call 648-CARS or visit www.carsguam.com.

Many moms will appreciate the sight of a beautiful floral arrangement. But, no one says you have to spend a lot of money to give her one.

In fact, we’ll show you how to cre-ate an elegant display piece using materials you can find at a crafts store and your back yard.

YOU WILL NEED:» Two blocks of floristry foam measuring about 8 inches» Around 40 Plumeria blos-soms, or any full-bloomed flower» Assorted foliage like ferns» Tangan Tangan branch» Floral wire» A round container» Green floral tape

STEP 1:

PREPARE THE PLUMERIAS

Attach wire to the Plumeria blossoms and cover the stem with floral tape. This will en-able you to stick the flowers into the foam.

STEP 2:

PREPARE THE BASE

Using floral tape, secure one foam block to a shal-low dish and place the Tangan Tan-gan branch in the center. Secure a second foam piece on the top of the branch.

STEP 3: ARRANGE THE FERN AND

FLOWERS

Starting from the top, push the stem of the ferns into the foam ensuring it sinks all the way into the foam base. Continue in a straight line until the ball is ringed with greens. Then make a line halfway around and fill in the quarters. Place flowers evenly so there are no gaps.

STEP 4: DECORATE THE BASE

Fill in the base with the foliage. You can com-bine the fern with other greenery to pro-vide accents. You can add a bow, ribbon or other accessories for additional color.

STEP 5: DISPLAY

This arrangement will look good on the din-ner table or mom’s dresser. Either way, she’ll be sure to enjoy the pleasant sight of the floral arrangement and the effort you put into it. ■ Floral arrangement provided by Diana’s FloristModel: Jennie Yang Photo Credit: Eugene C. Herrera
