The story…….

The word Birpurush means "Hero" or "Brave man". A child, the

protagonist of the poem, is imagining and describing a story to his

mother. He is imagining that he is travelling far with his mother. The

child is riding a red horse and the mother is travelling on a

palanquin.

In the evening when the sun is setting they reach a barren place.

Plodding silence reigns there. The mother is a bit afraid and wonders

where they have arrived! The child assures her and tells that there is

small river ahead. The mother sees a shimmering light and asks her

son about it. Suddenly they hear the cry "Ha re, re re, re re“ as a

band of dacoits attack their palanquin. The mother shivers inside the

palanquin; the palanquin-bearers hide in the bush. The son assures

the mother, and confronts the dacoits courageously. A fantastic fight

follows in which the son emerges victorious. The son returns to

mother who kisses his forehead and thanks.

The imagination now turns from this event as the poet wonders why

some exciting things like this does not actually happen in the

mundane way of real life! It would be like an adventure story that

would fascinate everybody.

যজোেোবেবঘর মোনে । ধূ ধূ কনর যয বেক পোনে চোই যকোনেোখোনে জেমোেব েোই, তুবম যযে আপেমনে তোই ভে

যপনেছ; ভোবছ, এনম যকোেো? আবম ববছ, ‘ভে যপনেো েো মো যগো, ঐ যেখো যোে মরো েেীর যোাঁতো ।’

োনত োঠি, মোেোে ঝোকেো চু কোনে তোনের যগোাঁজো জবোর ফু । আবম বব, ‘েোাঁেো, খবরেোর! এক পো

আনগ আব যবে আর - এই যচনে যেখ আমোর তনোেোর, টুকনরো কনর যেব যতোনের যনর ।’ শুনে তোরো ম্ফ বেনে উনে যচাঁ বচনে উে, ‘োাঁনর যর যর যর যর।’ তুবম বন, ‘যো েো যখোকো নর’ আবম বব, ‘যেনখো েো চুপ কনর।’ ছুটিনে যঘোেো যগনম তোনের মোনঝ, ঢো তনোেোর ঝন ঝবেনে বোনজ কী

ভেোেক েোই মো যয, শুনে যতোমোর গোনে যেনব কোাঁটো। কত যোক যয পোবনে যগ ভনে, কত

যোনকর মোেো পে কোটো।

যচোরকোাঁটোনত মোে রনেনছ যঢনক, মোঝখোনেনত পে বগনেনছ যবাঁনক । যগোরু বোছুর যেইনকো যকোনেোখোনে, নে নতই যগনছ গোাঁনের পোনে, আমরো যকোেোে যোবি যক তো জোনে, অেকোনর

যেখো যোে েো ভোনো । তুবম যযে বন আমোে যেনক, ‘বেবঘর ধোনর ঐ যয বকনর আনো!’ এমে মে 'োাঁনর যর

যর যর যর’ ঐ যয কোরো আনতনছ েোক যছনে । তুবম ভনে পোবকনত এক যকোনে েোকুর যেবতো স্মরে করছ মনে,

যবেোরোগুনো পোনলর কোাঁটোবনে পোবক যছনে কোাঁপনছ েনরোেনরো। আবম যযে যতোমোে ববছ যেনক, ‘আবম আবছ,

ভে যকে মো কর।’

এত যোনকর নে েোই কনর ভোবছ যখোকো যগই ববুঝ মনর। আবম তখে রক্ত যমনখ যঘনম ববছ

এন, ‘েোই যগনছ যেনম’, তুবম শুনে পোবক যেনক যেনম চুনমো যখনে বেি আমোে যকোন - বছ,

‘ভোনগে যখোকো নে বছ! কী েেুযলোই ত তো েো ন।’ যরোজ কত কী ঘনট যোো তোো - এমে যকে বতে ে েো আো। ঠিক যযে এক গল্প ত তনব, শুেত যোরো অবোক ত নব, েোেো বত, ‘যকমে কনর নব, যখোকোর গোনে এত বক যজোে আনছ।’

পোেোর যোনক বত বোই শুনে, ‘ভোনগে যখোকো বছ মোনের কোনছ।’
