Transcript of The Heart of It CHRISTMAS 2018€¦ · Thursday 13th and Friday 14th December As is the tradition,...
This autumn term has
flown by and, once
term packed with lots
of hard work but a lot
of fun too and I am
sure the girls, as well
as our staff, are ready
for a break. My end of
term letter will be on
its way to you by the
end of the week but in
the meantime, I hope
that you will enjoy this
issue of
'The Heart of It'.
I wish you all a safe,
happy and holy
Christmas.
God bless

As part of the run up to
Christmas, and to encourage all
the pupils and staff at our
school to focus on the true spirit
of Christmas, our Chaplaincy
Team introduced a fun and
rewarding initiative to
encourage random acts of
kindness!
The idea is to perform
within the
week
day. Acts have included small
gestures such as writing a poem
or a song, making something,
small gifts etc.

Year 8
Samaritan Purse
international relief and
development organisation that
works through churches to
proclaim and demonstrate the
love of God amongst
communities in developing
countries.
We collected over 500 boxes as
part of their Operation
Christmas Child appeal so
children can experience God's
love through the power of simple
shoebox gifts. This year the
boxes are going to Romania.
To celebrate the UK's largest annual tree celebration, and for the third
consecutive year, Year 8 planted trees beside D-Block.
The four forms enjoyed getting back to nature and rotated between
planting, weeding, going on an Autumn Scavenger Hunt and designing
an Autumn Wreath.
Chamber Choir
Carol Singing
Congratulations to the Chamber

Year 7

by David Goutcher, author of
The Spy Quest series of books.
David entertained the girls with
stories from his previous
career as a policeman and
surveillance agent and dazzled
them with a display of the
interactive technology which
means his books
and are like a modern day
treasure hunt.

In her capacity as an
ambassador for The Breck

Year 7 Retreat
The wonderful Walsingham House team spent time with our new
year 7s and enjoyed focusing on being part of a new school
community. The retreat days were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Thursday 13th and Friday
14th December
As is the tradition, we had
two fun packed lunch hours
with staff serving the
pupils their Christmas

The turkey and trimmings,
prepared by Sharon and
her amazing team in the

the girls tucked into with

evening.
Well done to all those involved.
Congratulations to Cara Treacy who won the nationwide writing
competition. Cara was awarded, as Catholic Young Writer 2018,
£50, a trophy and a selection of books.
Congratulations also to runners-up Erin McCarthy, Karina
Hudson and Amelia Johnson.
Prizegiving Evening
Once again, Prizegiving Evening
was a tremendous success with
over 200 girls receiving public
examination certificates and
approximately 150 pupils
receiving special subject prizes
and awards for academic
excellence, effort, fortitude,
service to others, faith in action
and excellence in sport, drama,
and music.
The Guest Speaker, former pupil
Michelle Foreman, executive
producer with Global, delivered
an address that was truly
inspirational and the
musical entertainment provided
by the choir was worthy of high
praise.
Sacred Space
refurbished by the PTFA to be
used as a place of refuge for girls
suffering from anxiety issues.
Intervention for those in need of
more intensive support is
provided by the Cool Connexions
Programme delivered to
individuals and small
groups. This gives girls
opportunities to speak about
personal issues and anxieties in a
non-judgmental and safe
environment.
We are currently making
the premises at lunchtimes
initially. Pets in schools are
regarded as highly effective
therapy for pupils with anxiety and
stress-related problems.
