N O WNEIGHBORS ON THE WAY

C L U BIn February 2018, Menno Haven’s Marketing Team began a new paid priority wait list program which is referred to as the NOW (Neighbors On The Way) Club program.

As part of the program, NOW Club members will be given select opportunities to start enjoying a sampling of life at Menno Haven which will be denoted with a NOW club logo in Haven Connect.

Our goal is to keep our prospects actively engaged in making a move to Menno Haven sooner rather than later and make their new community truly “home”. These members will have special name tags with our NOW Club logo. Please extend a warm welcome to these prospective new residents when you see them!

WHAT'STHIS?

REMEMBER IN SEPTEMBER

3

When I think about the month of September, I think of several things. It's the first month of the triannual

period (or every 4 months) of the calendar year. I'm also reminded that September is also known as the “Gateway”, or the door, to the beginning of the fall season. This time of year brings about “mixed feelings” as well. I look forward to cooler weather, multi-colored leaves, holidays, festivals, and more, that come with the fall season. But at the same time, I'm somewhat disappointed that I will have to wait until next year to enjoy the summer season again, which is my favorite season of the year.

In 1960, a song entitled “Try to Remember” was released by a group called the “Fantasticks.” I can imagine that some of you are saying “I remember that song”, and even now, you are trying to remember how the tune goes to hum or sing yourself, so I thought I would help by giving you some of the lyrics...

“Try to remember, the kind of September, when life was slow, and oh, so mellow. Try to remember the kind of September, when grass was green, and grain was yellow.

Try to remember the kind of September, when you were a tender and callow fellow. Try to remember, and if you remember, then follow (echo), follow (echo), follow.”

As you can see, there is a certain word that stands out, and that word is “Remember”. I’m reminded of some scripture that speaks about this. In Psalm 143:5a, it says “I remember the days of long ago”, days of making memories. In Psalm 105:5, “Remember the wonders and miracles God has done”. In Psalm 119, “Remember your word to your people, Lord”, and in Psalm 25:6, “Remember the mercy and love of the Lord”. Finally, in Deuteronomy 8:2 & 18, “Remember how the Lord has led you all the way”, and “Remember the Lord your God has given you your abilities”.

So, in this month of September, “Try to Remember” the memories that bring a smile to your face, and to your heart. Also, remember the goodness and blessings of the Lord, and be thankful and grateful for all his wonderful gifts to you each day.

Chambers Pointe resident, Elmer Packheiser, has entertained family and friends over the years with stories of his life experiences.

His stories and photos were recently compiled into a book entitled, "An American Life", and presented to the residents of Chambers Pointe.

The book highlights his life as he followed the legacy instilled in him by his parents and grandparents to achieve the American dream of opportunity. The tales range from his Prussian forefathers to homesteading in a two-room shack in Montana with his parents, from his days as a cowboy to serving as a Navy medic, and from his career as an engineer to working to preserve Martin's Mill Bridge in Antrim Township.

"When I moved to Chambers Pointe at Menno Haven, it just seemed time to write the book," said Elmer.

AN AMERICAN LIFE By Elmer Packheiser of Chambers Pointe

RESIDENT CORNERShared messages from one community to another

"I dedicated the book to my wonderful wife, Doris. She always enjoyed my stories and was proud of how I worked to achieve the American dream."

Mr. Packheiser is glad he moved to Chambers Pointe last year. He said that "everyone has been so kind to him". He further states that "the medical staff has provided him with excellent care and have often gone above and beyond to help. Everyone from the management staff, the medical team, the enrichment assistants and the dining room servers in both Chambers Pointe and the Health Care Center, plus Chaplain Brenda have been there for him and his wife". He would also like to express his deep appreciation to everyone for their compassion when his wife passed away earlier this year on Valentine's Day."

Mr. Packheiser lives in Apartment 323 in the Manor and has donated a copy of his book, An American Life, to the Chambers Pointe Library.

September 2018Banking Done Your Way

Investment & Trust ServicesLabor Day, a holiday that by definition from the US Department of Labor website “constitutes a yearly tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country”.

In reflection on our working careers, each of us has worked hard to provide for our families and saved to enjoy our retirement. Since we are no longer an active member of the work force, we rely on what we have accumulated through years of saving and investing. In retirement, it becomes more important to make every dollar count as Social Security and pension payments rarely keep up with the rising costs of goods and services. New investment products are coming to market regularly, and it becomes more confusing about how to put your money to work. And with recent changes to the tax laws, making sure that our money is properly allocated so we can maximize those tax advantages is equally important.

The Investment and Trust Services Department is here to help with those challenges. Our invest-ment team has years of experience and continually researches developing products to identify those that could be useful to customers in fulfilling their financial goals. Visit our office on campus or give us a call at 717.261.3569 to speak to one of our financial professionals.

Security TipsMalicious EmailsA malicious email can look just like it comes from a financial institution, an e-commerce site, a gov-ernment agency or business. It may urge you to act quickly because your account has been com-promised, your order cannot be fulfilled or another urgent matter to address. If you are unsure whether an email request is legitimate, verify it with these steps:

• Contact the company directly using information provided on an account statement, on the compa- ny’s official website, or back of a credit card.• Search for the company online – but not using information provided in the suspicious email.

Avoid Being a Victim• Don’t reveal personal or financial information in an email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information. This includes following links sent in email.

• Before sending or entering sensitive information online, check the security of the website.

• Pay attention to the website’s URL. Malicious web sites may look identical to a legitimate site, but the URL may use a variation in spelling or a different domain.

• Keep all software on internet-connected devices, including PCs, smartphones and tablets, up to date to reduce risk of infection from malware.

Please visit F&M Trust at Chambers Pointe or Brookview to address any concerns of a possible scam. Our staff is here to help and guide you with any questions you may have.

Look for further information regarding a Security Seminar this fall in the upcoming Haven Connects.

Holiday HoursAll F&M Trust offices will be closed on

Monday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day.
