FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Hello Chapter members, families, friends, and fellow IHCC

collectors. So far we have had a busy year-having completed

our participation in five of our six major annual show events

including our State Show at Paquette’s Buffalo Nickel Ranch. In

addition, we have also participated in the Bluegrass Festival at

Fort Christmas, the Koreshan State Historic Site Show in

Estero, the Culpepper show in GA, the Possum the Park

photograph of your restored parade ready letter series tractor

that you would like for us to consider, please e-mail it to me.

Members are encouraged to continue to make contributions

toward the purchase of the trailer to help defray the cost to our

treasury. We believe that all members will be proud of the

Chapter’s new investment.

Fellow member Sharon Harrison ([email protected]) has agreed to

keep our web page updated. We are in the process of a redesign in an

attempt to make it a bit more user friendly. This will be a work-in-

progress for the next few months so please bear with us. The new web

page name (www.fl27ihc.com) will always be shown in the upper block

on page one of this newsletter.

We have decided that it is time for the Chapter to have its own

Brochure. Our first issue appears on the following two pages. The

second page will be printed on the back of the first page. You figure

out how to fold it. One issue per year will be printed. Shows, dates,

and photographs will be updated/changed with each new yearly issue.

It is with our deepest sorrow that Chapter 27 announces and pays

tribute to the passing on Thursday, March 27, 2014 of one of our

closest friends and most respected members, Jim Grauel. Jim joined

the club soon after its beginning and was a Building owner, former

Officer and current Director. Jim has always been a hard working and

valued member of Chapter 27. Over the years he has been a friend to

many, and served as a wealth of knowledge and adviser to all. Jim was

a genuine and honest man who would go out of his way to work with

everyone. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty, helping whenever

and wherever he could. Even strangers visiting our shows who

encountered troubles found their way to his door & he helped them all!

We send our deepest condolences to the Grauel Family. Jim will be

deeply missed by his many close friends and acquaintances.

Possum in the Park Festival

May 9-10, 2014

On May 9th

and 10th

the 1st

Annual Possum in the Park Festival was

held in Celebration Park in the small northern Florida town of Glen ST

Mary. The MacClenny Lions Club and the Baker County Rotary Club

sponsored the celebration of the simple life as a fund raiser for the

Making Dreams Come True children’s charity.

A down-home style celebration

was provided for all visitors,

vendors, and exhibitors with

plenty to see and do including

antique tractors, gas engines

and farm equipment, live music,

classic cars and trucks. The

children were continually

entertained with games and

rides. There was also a good

variety of excellent food-

including ice cream.

On Friday night all volunteers,

vendors, and exhibitors were

treated to a complimentary

supper followed by a live

musical concert featuring

the Banjocats. For the more

able bodied attendants, a 5K

Possum Trot was conducted on

Saturday.

Several members of IHCC Florida Chapter 27 attended the event and

exhibited their tractors and gas engines. We all had an enjoyable two

days and look forward to returning next year.

GOT TO BE NC FESTIVAL

MAY 16-18, 2014

On May 16th

and 17th

I attended “The Got to be NC Festival,” presented by

the N. C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The annual

event was held at the N. C. State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. Three great

days of down-home celebration North Carolina style provided visitors,

vendors, and exhibitors with plenty to see and do including antique

tractors, gas engines and farm equipment, draft horse pulls, tractor and

truck pulls, lawn mower racing, live music concerts, classic cars and

trucks, a Marine Boat Show, a Harley-Davidson drive-in, a food and wine

expo, plenty of Carolina barbecue, live farm animals including pig races,

a Flea Market, fantastic fireworks, and a carnival along the midway

featuring dozens of wild rides and games to choose from.

Antique tractor clubs, collectors and restorers from North Carolina and

surrounding states displayed approximately 200 tractors. Nearly all

were fully restored. The festival showcased a total of more than 1,000

pieces of farm equipment. The Grandstand was home to a number of

“horse-powered” sports, including draft horses on Friday, tractor and

truck pulls on Saturday, and garden tractor and lawnmower pulls on

Sunday. The Wake County Sheriff’s Canine Unit also sponsored special

dog demonstrations on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the Hunt

Horse Complex hosted the Wake County and District 4-H Horse Shows

with hunter, western, non-trotting and dressage classes. The action-

packed Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show was presented daily.

Spectators were amazed as the world champion lumberjacks

demonstrated a variety of sawing techniques in a humorous and

educational way. Children had a chance to see baby chickens hatch,

watch ducklings frolic in a pool, see longhorn steers up close, ride

ponies, and could even practice milking a goat or cow.

And then there was barbecue. North Carolina BBQ is just plain good!

And eastern NC has the best there is! The popular N.C. Pig Jig contest

between 40 Masonic lodge teams was held on Saturday. When it

comes to BBQ pork, you name it, they fixed it. For $10 you could get a

good portion sample from each of the 40 teams and rate them. If you

left hungry, it was your own fault. It was tops!

Antique and classic cars were on display on Friday and were followed

by Harley-Davidson motorcycles on Saturday. Also a collection of

Corbitt trucks, tractors, and equipment manufactured in NC was on

display.

The N.C. Food Expo filled the Exposition Building with hundreds of

foods raised within the state. More than 100 companies representing

products such as wines and beverages, peanuts, sauces, candies,

fresh produce, snacks, and meats were on hand. Visitors and

exhibitors were able to see, sample, and buy their quality products.

“The Got to be NC Festival,” showcased some of North Carolina’s rich

agricultural heritage through displays of farm equipment, fiber arts,

locally produced specialty products and working farm machinery.

Visitors and exhibitors were able to observe North Carolina’s rich

agricultural bounty while enjoying a generous mix of music and fun for

everyone. We recommend that you put this festival on your list of “to

go to” places.
