THE GRIDIRON ROUNDUP
The Demon Dopester missed three out of fifteen last week and is elated. The Old Gentleman is really chesty with only five I osses in the last 3 7 ·'shots,.. most of them rated near even or ''toss up" affairs.
He has scanned the list of games the nation over this week and they hold no dangers for him, at least none in his estimation.
Going out on the plank, we find the Demon· s forecasts as follows:
'BAMA - KENTUCKY - A rousing vote for the Crimson Tide. We can't see how Frank Thomas' Elephants can drop thjs one. They say an Elephant never forgets-but it seems the Alabama jumbos have little to remember except the happy hours of cavorting in Touchdown Land.
•••
DUKE-AUBURN-Wallace Wade's men to get going again this week on another winning streak.
•••
FLORIDA-GEORGIA-This seems to be one of the tougher ones to expert in view of the general results of the past two weeks. \Ve'll nod toward the Athens Bulldog.
•••
GEORGIA TECH-NORTH CAROLINA -Another tough one. In view of Tech's magnificent stand, we won't be surprised to see the Tornado break into the winning column at last.
•••
TENNESSEE-FORD HAM-Another victory for Bob Neyland's Vols and a third successive defeat for Jimmy Crowley's Rams.
•••
VANDY-GEORGE WASHINGTON-A glance toward the Commodores.
••• NAVY-W. & L.-The Generals are not
bad but the Admirals are better.
••• ARMY - ILLINOIS - The Mule to wm
this one and continue on.
••• PRINCETON - HARVARD-Fritz Cris
ler's Tigers in a walk.
6
DARTMOUTH - YALE- The Hanover collegians have never been able to shake off the Bulldog jinx in all these years. On paper it seems their best opportunity to do it this year. Yet we have a hunch that Yale will keep up its tradition of never losing to the Green.
••• NOTRE DAME-PITT - Here's another
hard one. We look for the Ramblers to take their second defeat of the year up at Pitt town.
• •• TEMPLE - HOLY CROSS - Theoretically that defeat of the Crusaders at the hands of Colgate should have made them tougher but we wonder. We'll take them over to win a close one.
••• MINNESOTA - MICHIGAN-This seems
to at last be the year for Bernie Bierman to get Minnesota's long sought revenge on the Wolverines. Bernie has the stuff to do it.
CHlCAGO-PURDUE-Clark Shaughnessy's Maroons to take Purdue. It might be appropriate, however. to recall that old one that "Chicago fears Purdue."
• •• W I S C 0 N S I N-NORTHWEST£RN
Here's the chance for the Badgers or Wildcats to finally break the losing streak. We lean in the direction of Northwestern.
••• TEXAS-SOUTHERN METHODIST-A
real tough one but Ray Morrison's Mustangs get our vote.
• •• CAL-SANTA CLARA-We went down
with the Bears last week when they took the count from the Wasbjngton Huskies and we'll risk our chin again. You may recall that Santa Clara tied Sanford in the season opener.
••• WASHINGTON STATE-ST. MARY'S-
The Galloping Gaels are probably back in high gear but Babe Hollingsberry's men seem to be well oiled also. A weak vote for the Cougars .
• •• ST ANFORD-U. C. L. A.-Another toss
up with Stanford getting the call . • ••
That's nineteen chances for today which is enough for even the old Demon.
