The Grapevine Campbellfield Public School Townson Avenue, MINTO NSW 2566 T (02) 9603 4233 F (02) 9820 2945 E [email protected] Term 2 Week 10 Wednesday, 27 June 2012 Principals Report End of Term 2 How quickly the time passes. This Friday will see the end of Term 2, the halfway point in the 2012 school year. At times it seems like only yesterday that the school year began. However, when I think about all the successful events across the year it is easy to understand the length of time required to achieve them. Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday 17 th July 2012. Kindergarten Changes Letters were sent home early this week with students of KH informing parents and carers of changes to commence in Term 3. From Term 3 Mrs Garlick and Mrs Callan will share the teaching responsibility for KH. Miss Harris will take up other teaching opportunities external to Campbellfield next term. I would like to extend my thanks to Miss Harris for accepting the role on this year’s kindergarten at very short notice. I have appreciated her commitment to all the students within the class and wish her well in the next phase of her teaching journey. Local Schools Local Decisions (LSLD) The NSW Teachers Federation called for a 24hr Stop- Work today in opposition to the introduction of the Local Schools Local Decision initiative. Our teachers nominated their intention to remain on duty today. This meant the Stop-Work did not affect our normal operations today. Staff and community from Campbellfield currently support LSLD as we are 1 of 229 public schools to commence the initiative this year. A department website dedicated to LSLD can be accessed at: http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/lsld/index.php Please view the content of this website if you would like to view information regarding LSLD. Alternatively, you are most welcome to discuss the LSLD initiative with me if you have further questions. Relieving Assistant Principal Ms Sarah Mason Last week Mrs Casuscelli and I ran a merit selection process to find a suitable person to fill the relieving assistant principal’s role in the MCU. Ms Sarah Mason was the successful applicant. Ms Mason comes to us from Rosemeadow PS where she currently teaches a class within their MCU. I welcome Ms Mason to our school and know that she will make a significant and positive contribution during her time with us. Mrs Casuscelli Early last year I was able to bring the wonderful news that our school had secured the services of Mrs Lee Casuscelli to lead our MCU. In the five terms that Lee has worked alongside our MCU and mainstream staff, there have been significant cultural changes to the way we all serve our community. This cultural change is noticeable across our entire school. While these changes are attributable to all our wonderful staff, Lee has been a significant leader, contributor and supporter of this process. It is with sadness that I now herald Lee’s return to the state coordinator role for Positive Partnerships Australia that she came from. Yes, I will most definitely miss Lee, and miss her for many reasons. Those reasons include her friendship, expertise, professionalism, dedication and passionate advocacy for students. I will even miss her humour! However, I remain thankful that our school was able to meet and be inspired by such a wonderful person in Mrs Lee Casuscelli. I wish her all the best for her future and know that she will continue to enrich the lives of those she meets. Stage 3 Camp Thanks to those parent who have paid for Stage 3 Camp. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child and they will have a fantastic time. The notes and deposit to secure your child’s place are due back as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask at the office. Gymnastics Notes have been sent home. The P&C are paying $10 per child, so you only have to pay $20 for your child to be able to participate in the gymnastics program. Don’t forget to send your note back, to secure your place. We need the whole school to take part!!!

HEADLICE Head lice are an unfortunate part of school life. We have had several outbreaks lately so why not take the opportunity during the school holidays to treat your child’s head. What are head lice?

Head lice are tiny insects that live on the head and in the hair. They're highly infectious and easily passed between children who tend to work closely with their heads together, at school and at play

Head lice are flat, wingless insects about 2mm to 4mm long, usually black or dark brown, which attach to the base of a hair. They are blood-sucking insects which feed on human blood several times a day. They stay close to the skin for moisture, food and warmth. The

adult lice lay a large number of eggs, known as nits that can be seen as tiny white/brown ovals glued firmly to the hair close to the scalp.

To get rid of head lice, it's important to understand their life cycle so that you continue treatment for the right length of time. You will need to repeat treatment after 7 to 10 days – the time taken for the eggs to hatch, as the eggs are more resistant to treatments. If you are meticulous with treatment, there is a high chance of getting rid of the infestation.

Years 1 – 2 Stage 1
