Understanding the costsYour home at The Governor’sAs you plan for this next exciting phase of your life, it’s important to understand the different types of costs involved.

There are three key costs involved in living at The Governor’s, specific details of which will be clearly detailed and agreed with you upfront based on the specific home you choose. We are committed to ensuring that you are well advised of the financial considerations and we also encourage you to seek independent financial advice.

1. Entry priceThis is the single, up-front payment that secures your new home. It can be considered similar to the purchase price you would pay when buying a traditional home, although the cost at The Governor’s is usually lower than the cost of a similar residence in the same area and includes access to all of the community facilities and benefits of life at The Governor’s. Unlike a regular residential real estate purchase, with Australian Unity you’ll pay no stamp duty, potentially saving you tens of thousands of dollars up-front.

2. Ongoing feesSimilar to owners corporation fees or the costs associated with maintaining your own home, these weekly or monthly payments contribute to the shared running costs of your community. These costs include managing and maintaining residences and shared community facilities, the helpful staff and looking after gardens and recreation areas. They also cover building insurance for every home within the community.

3. Departure feeThe affordable entry price is made possible by a departure fee, which is an agreed percentage of the entry price you paid, which is then paid to Australian Unity when you leave the community and your home is sold to a new resident. With the departure fee, Australian Unity delivers a more affordable home up-front and takes its profit when you leave the community. The actual departure fee paid will depend on a number of variables including how long you reside in the community and how much you pay for your home on entry into the community.

Australian Unity Retirement Community homes at The Governors are sold under a loan lease arrangement. For more information please email us at: [email protected] or call us on: 1300 160 170

Australian Unity Over 175 years of supporting community wellbeing

At Australian Unity, care and service is at the heart of everything we do. Since 1840, our mission has been to bring health and support to Australian lives.

Over the years we have grown in many ways but we have always supported the wellbeing of everyday Australians, providing social infrastructure and services that have helped shape the nation. Back in the 1890s, one of our founding organisations played a key role in campaigning for Australia’s federation. Australia’s first two prime ministers, Sir Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin, were both members and so was the first Australian-born Governor-General in 1930, Sir Isaac Isaacs.

While we are proud of our heritage, Australian Unity is a business firmly focused on the future. Today, Australian Unity actively identifies and helps solve a diverse range of health and lifestyle needs to support the wellbeing of our members and the broader Australian community so that they can thrive.

As a mutual company, Australian Unity is owned by its members rather than shareholders. This means that we do not pay any of our profits to shareholders but invest them back into further services to directly support our members and customers.
