Have you come to the place in your spiritual
life where you know for certain that if you died today you would go to
heaven?
Suppose you did die and stood before God
and He said, “Why should I let you into
heaven?” what would you say?
Would you consider yourself
to be a good person?
The 10 Commandments
Do you think you have kept the
Ten Commandments?
Have you ever told a lie?
What does that make you?
The Bible says:
… All liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur…"
- Revelation 21:8
Have you ever stolen anything?
What does that make you?
… Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves … will inherit the kingdom of God.
-1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Have you ever committed adultery?
“… I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
- Matthew 5:28
What does that make you?
Have you ever murdered anyone?
The Bible says, “Anyone who
hates his brother is a MURDERER.”
"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, … anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.- Matthew
5:21,22
What does that make you?
By your own ADMISSION, you are a liar, a thief, an adulterer and a murderer at heart.
If God were to judge you by the Ten
Commandments, do you think you would
be innocent or guilty?
Do you think you would go to heaven
or hell?
God is just therefore He must
punish sinners.
• A righteous judge will not just forgive
Does that CONCERN you?
But here’s the Good
News!
God provided for you to be forgiven.
God sent His Son Jesus Christ to take
the sinners’ place and die for them.
Who Jesus is• He is the eternal and unique Son of God
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Who Jesus is• He is infinite God and
perfect man
John 1:1,14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
Who Jesus is• He is infinite God and
perfect man
Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form
What Jesus did He became man, lived a perfect
life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to reconcile us to an offended God.
What Jesus did• He came to earth to save sinners
1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
What Jesus did• He became the mediator between God
and sinners
1 Timothy 2:5-6 The Apostle Paul says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men…
What Jesus did• He died to reconcile sinners to the
offended God
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
What Jesus did• He took upon Himself man’s
punishment for sinIsaiah 53:5-6 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. … and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
What Jesus did• He died to turn aside God’s wrath
Romans 3:25 God presented him as the one who would turn aside His wrath , taking away sin through faith in his blood. (NIV footnote)
What Jesus did• He rose from the dead to justify
sinners
Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
What is God’s REQUIREMENT to be reconciled to an offended God?
Not by trying
one’s best
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
~James 2:10
Not by being good
or religious
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.
~Ephesians 2:8-9
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”
~Acts 16:30,31
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.
~Acts 20:21
Repentanceand
Faith
What is repentance?“True and godly repentance includes a deep
remorse for having offended God. The repentant person openly and fully confesses his sin with no attempt to excuse it or justify it. This acknowledgement of sin is coupled with a willingness to make restitution whenever possible and a resolve to turn away from sin.”
- R.C. Sproul
What is faith?
• Not mere head knowledge or assent
• Not temporal faith
• Faith is trusting in Christ alone to be reconciled to the offended God
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.
~James 2:19
God’sAssurances
• Assurance of acceptance
Romans 10:11 As the Scripture says, ‘Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.’
• Assurance of adoption
John 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
• Assurance of forgiveness
Acts 10:43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
• Assurance of eternal life
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
• Assurance of heaven
John 14:1-2 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
• Assurance of regeneration
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
God’s Threat
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.
- John 3:36
They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power.
- 2 Thessalonians 1:9
The TRUTH is in the Bible and I encourage you all to get right with
God today.
