A small step of obedience to what God has said will be one step closer to God’s sovereign destiny for your life. It will get you from NO experience of the future to a further taste of God’s ultimate plan.

FROM NO PRAYER TO SOME PRAYER “I never used to pray for the people in my spheres, but now I pray for them by name.”

FROM GENERAL SPORADIC PRAYER TO CONSISTENT PRAYER “I used to pray every now and again, but now I pray specifically and regularly.”

FROM NO CONNECTION TO ANY CONNECTION “I didn’t even speak to them but now I am looking for ways of connecting.”

Mark 3:13-19

13 He went up to a mountain and called those he had called to be with him and they came to him. 14

And he appointed twelve whom he called apostles. They were to be associated with him in such a way that he could send them out to preach. 15They were to have authority to heal and to cast out demons. 16 And he chose the twelve. He added the name Peter to Simon 17and James the son of Zebedee and John, the brother of James. (He called them ‘Boanerges’ which means ‘sons of thunder.’) 18and Andrew and Philip and Bartholomew and Matthew and Thomas and James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddaeus and Simon the Zealot 19

and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

1. He went from healing and casting out demons by the Sea of Galilee in Capernaum up the side of a mountain

2. When he got up on the side of the mountain he called some of those who followed him there to come with him but for the others to stay where they were.

3. Out of that group he appointed twelve and distinguished their function by the word, “apostle.”

2. The condition of this relationship was that they would learn so that they could learn in order to be sent out. J

3. When they were sent out they would have authority to do three things:

a. Preach

b. Heal sicknesses

c. Cast out demons

WE ARE GIVEN SOME DETAILS ABOUT SOME OF THESE APOSTLES

1. Simon got a new name: PETER (rocky) 2. James and 3. John were brothers and Jesus gave the nickname: “sons of

thunder.” Their father’s name was Zebedee. 4. Andrew 5. Philip 6. Bartholomew 7. Matthew 8. Thomas 9. James whose father’s name was Alphaeus 10. Thaddaeus 11. Simon who was a Zealot 12. Judas (‘dagger man’)

4. GETTING AUTHORITY so that you can EXERCISE AUTHORITY

a. Knowing how to proclaim the gospel

b. Knowing how to heal sickness

c. Knowing how to deal with spiritual opression
