Message From Our President...
There are now less than two months until the Golden State Coin Show and the NASC Gold Coin Drawing. I realize that some of you have won tickets through our monthly raffles, but we have sold very few tickets in addition to those. Remember that our club retains half of the proceeds of the ticket sales. Please see me at the meeting for some tickets and for your chance to win one or more of the 35 gold prizes to be given away at the August 23-24 coin show! So please come out to our July meeting for another great educational program, show & tell and auction. See you all at the meeting, Mike
This month we will have a very informative presentation on counterfeit detection which will be presented by Jay Robinson. Spotting fakes is a necessary skill for all levels of collectors so please attend. See Page 2 for more information. Looking ahead, please note our August meeting will be our annual White Elephant Sale which is a great and popular fundraiser for our club. Since the White Elephant Sale will replace our regular auction at the August meeting, be sure to bring those items you are thinking of selling to the July meeting. Also start gathering those items you wish to donate to the club’s White Elephant Sale in August. Thank you in advance!

July’s Program... Introduction to
Counterfeit Detection
Before you learn to grade your coins and before you learn to properly care for your collection, you should first know that the coins you are collecting are genuine. In any industry where there are items of value, there will be those who counterfeit those items. This is certainly true with rare coins. Just about every type of coin out there has been faked at one time. Counterfeits exist of early type coins, ancients, classic gold, colonials and even modern silver eagles. Our current Vice-President, Jay Robinson, will be presenting a very informative and practical program on the basics of identifying counterfeit coins. This is a must-see program that should be useful to all collectors no matter what types of coins you collect.
