VNA Grief Support Group

The Central NH VNA & Hospice Grief Support group will start up again in April, meeting on Wednesdays from 2—3pm in Woodside’s Maple Room from April 3 through April 24.

They welcome you to join them to learn about the grief process, discuss ways of coping, and gain the support of others in a safe, caring environment.

Grief is a unique experience through which each person finds their own path, yet there are common threads we all may share. Sharing and hearing each other tell our stories can itself be healing. Topics will include how grief affects our bodies, minds, emotions, social life, and spiritual life as well as ideas for good self-care and how to approach difficult times of day or year.

Wearing the Green at the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner — New Members of The O’Brien Clan?

Calling All Knitters!

For many years Karna Feltham has been the dedicated leader of the Sanbornton Congregational UCC Church Prayer Shawl Ministry, meeting here at Woodside once a month. Karna is now living at Taylor home and whilst she has relinquished the leadership role, she has fortu-nately not retired her knitting needles and continues to be a valuable and treasured member of our group.

We are made up of Taylor residents, some of whom are members of the Sanbornton Church, but we are open to anyone who is interested in knitting or crocheting Prayer Shawls, scarves or lap robes. We also have patterns for knitting a small Dudoza Comfort doll or Teddy Bear Hand Puppet, which are welcomed by children in need of solace. You do not need to be an accomplished knitter and it may be years since you gave away your crochet hook and yarns. However, we do have a good supply of donated yarns and needles available for you. Why not come to one of our gatherings and see if you are inspired to revive your interest in one of these relaxing crafts? It is also a wonderful opportunity to socialize and make new friends.

Our creations are given to residents of hospitals, Hospice, Veteran and Nursing homes as well as to friends, family members, neighbors, or anyone who would be comforted by such a gift.

We will be meeting at 1pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in the Dry Craft Room at Woodside.

You may also choose to join some of our members who enjoy meeting at noon for lunch in the Bistro before heading to the Craft Room.

Any questions? Call Beryl Charlton at 832-9225 or Nan Baker at 524-9345, or just show up at our next gathering on TUESDAY, APRIL 2nd.

We look forward to seeing you.

Caught Doing Something Nice!

Susan Marchand whipped up some Saint Patty's Day fun for our Assisted Living residents on the 3rd floor of Ledgeview last week. She brought in green cupcakes, green glow necklaces and bracelets, green hats and even made some green ginger ale for them to enjoy! Residents that came out for the 6pm movie night held every night on the third floor (also initiated and run by Susan) enjoyed her treats,

and Mary Fernald, RN joined in the fun also! For the resi-dents who did not come out for the movie, Susan went room-to-room to offer them a cupcake and green ginger ale. Thank you, Susan, for going above and beyond for our residents; they truly appreciate you!

Friday – April 19 – New Hampshire State House [Moderate—walking] – The grand New Hampshire State House is the ideal place to visit to learn about the state’s history, government, and state agencies. Built just after the close of the War of 1812, the Concord landmark is steeped in American history. Made of granite in a Greek Revival style, the capitol is topped with a stately gold dome. The State

House is the oldest capitol building in the country in which both houses of legisla-ture still meet in their original chambers.

With both permanent and rotating exhibits, there is much to see and do to immerse yourself in New Hampshire’s past and present. The main entrance through the Hall of Flags is impressive, as are the many portraits and statues of his-toric figures including Daniel Webster, John Stark, and President Pierce (who was from New Hampshire). The capitol building furthermore houses the New Hampshire Governor’s Office, General Court, and Executive Council. Following the tour, the group will enjoy lunch at The Barley House. Bus pick-up begins at 8:30AM.

Friday – April 26 – Tour of Laconia Fire Department [Moderate—walking] – The Laconia Fire Department has been proudly serving the City of Laconia and surrounding communities since 1893. The members of the department provide fire suppression, emergency medical care, and technical rescue operations to those in need; and their members take pride in their profession, and are ready to respond promptly to any emergency. Join us as Chief Beattie leads a tour of their facility. Following our tour, we will dine at the Water Street Café. Bus pick-up begins at 9:30AM.

Thank you for your support!

Thank You!

The Taylor Home Service Club’s recent endeavor, OPERATION SHOEBOX, was a success! A big thank you to all of you who donated — supplies collected will be shipped to our overseas troops next week!

Who Will Be Crowned Mr. Taylor Community?!

On February 6, in an effort to promote the health and wellbeing of our 99% male Facilities staff, the Mr. Taylor Community Challenge kicked off.

For the past eight weeks, the 28 guys have been encour-aged to participate in a variety of activities to score points. On March 27, the top five finalists were announced, and the pool will drop to the Top 3 on April 1.

Your Top 5 Mr. Taylor Community contestants are: Danny Theberge, who has walked 91 miles; Adam Boehner, who has walked 178 miles, the equivalent of walking to Montreal; Chris Krotz with an astounding 324 miles; Matt Whitney, who has walked 133 miles; and Mark Leathers, who has walked 202 miles, basically all the way to New York City. All 5 have had regular blood pressure checks; four of the five have completed food diaries twice a week; two have lost between 10 and 33 pounds; one is quitting smoking; and two have joined a gym!

Mr. Taylor Community will be crowned on April 11 at Noon at the Wellness Fair at Woodside, and will receive a prize pack including a night’s stay with dinner and massages at Church Landing in Meredith. Stay tuned for the upcoming story on who will be crowned…

accept or except?

Accept is a verb, and means to agree with, take in, or receive. (I really can’t accept credit for that project.)

Except is a preposition, and means apart from. (Everyone came to the party except Grandma.)

Staff Spotlight Isabelle Dubia

Born at Lakes Region Hospital and raised in Northfield, Isabelle is the third of four children. The oldest, Brittany, has a son — Jackson, age 6 — with whom Isabelle spends lots of time. Brother Colton is next; he’s currently attending Florida State after four years at Plymouth State. Isabelle says he’s a mathematician. Jessica is the youngest.

While in her last two years of high school at

Winnisquam High, Isabelle’s mother encouraged her to go to the tech so she could become an LNA, because she “thought she would be good at it.” (She is!)

With her LNA license in hand, Isabelle went and worked at Kohl’s until she could get a job as an LNA a few months later... at Taylor Community!

At the end of 2016, she and her boyfriend Alex wanted to “spread their wings and try something different,” and moved to South Carolina. Something different for sure, Isabelle got a position in a halfway house as a behavioral health assistant for criminals. Yes, criminals! All of us who work with Isabelle could not imagine that. Isabelle is so soft spoken, unassuming and... tiny. She has shared some pretty alarming stories... Her building’s ratio of residents to staff members was 10:5, and all of the resident criminals were men, and all staff members women. Isabelle stayed there for 9 months; there was never a bad incident while she was there.

Moving again to NH, Isabelle reapplied at Taylor, back with us since August, 2017. We’re so glad! Residents on the 3rd floor of Ledgeview absolutely adore her.

Isabelle loves hiking with her two dogs, a Beagle named Sammy and a Shepard named Chief, and has hiked Mt. Major with them several times as well as Rattlesnake in Holderness. She also loves to snowmobile and camp: “tent” camping; she doesn’t cheat.

Isabelle is currently thinking of going back to school to get

her RN, with a little bit of encouragement from us (hint).
