Crane Garden Buildings is proud to be a family run business, making timber buildings in Norfolk for nearly 50 years.

Our buildings are exceptional and unrivalled because they are built to last a lifetime and come with a personal service at every stage of the process. Our passion is to make the best garden buildings possible, and to ensure the highest standards from start to finish we use the finest quality timber and materials at every stage. Each building is handmade by our own skilled craftsmen and installed by our highly-regarded, in-house installation team.

If you work, study or have a hobby you wish to pursue from home, a separate building in your garden can be the perfect solution.

A garden office or relaxation room can look stunning, as well as provide additional space to undoubtedly create a more inspiring, quiet and relaxing environment.

Our Garden Studio collection includes a range of designs to suit all gardens, all built using extremely high quality FSC® certified shiplap and painted with our long-lasting exterior paint or Farrow & Ball paint colour range. They are all finished to the very highest of standards and are double glazed, lined, well-ventilated and fully-insulated for year-round use. Finishing touches include polished brass or chrome fittings and secure five lever mortise locks.

Since each Studio is made to order, it can be tailored to meet your exact needs and style aspirations.

The Salthouse offers a contemporary and convenient garden room with a stylish pent roof, full insulation and a generous expanse of double-glazed glass.

This Studio will offer brilliant views of the surrounding garden and allow an abundance of natural light inside.

The Salthouse will be finished in your colour choice from our exterior paint system, or you can upgrade to Farrow & Ball’s paint range for as bold or subtle a look as you wish. Internally, the Studio will be fully insulated with natural, solid pine lining for a warm, homely feel, and opening fanlight windows will provide ventilation. The pent roof design keeps a contemporary look and is usually finished with our heat-bonded, heavy duty felt; alternatively, where the Salthouse roof is visible, our Sedum roof option offers an attractive and individual look that your garden and the surrounding wildlife will thank you for.

To enhance your outdoor space further, why not consider an electric pack to provide light and power to your building, select engineered flooring in a range of colours, or choose painted lining in either Ivory or a neutral Farrow & Ball colour? Guttering, extra doors and windows, and even partitions can be added to your design as well.

THE SALTHOUSE


The Burnham expertly combines timeless tradition and contemporary class with full-length glass panels and an apex roof for added internal height.

A perfect workspace or hobby room, this Studio is a beautiful asset to any garden. Internally, the Burnham is both light and airy with added ventilation thanks to the opening fanlight windows positioned along the rear wall.

The Burnham will be finished in your colour choice from our exterior paint system, or you can upgrade to Farrow & Ball’s exterior paint range for as bold or subtle a look as you wish. Internally, the studio will be fully insulated with natural, solid pine lining for a warm, comfortable feel. With the Burnham you have the option of choosing either the finest quality cedar shingle tiles, or slate effect roof tiles in a stylish grey or warm terracotta.

To enhance your outdoor space further, why not consider an electric pack to provide light and power to your building, select engineered flooring in a range of colours, or choose painted lining in either Ivory or a neutral Farrow & Ball colour? THE BURNHAM



The Langham is a traditional garden building that can be easily transformed from a recreational-retreat to a desirable working den.

Desk height windows are a practical, as well as stylish, feature, offering the ideal set-up to work or play from.

The Langham will be finished in your colour choice from our exterior paint system, or you can upgrade to Farrow & Ball’s paint range for as bold or subtle a look as you wish. Internally, the studio will have a natural, solid pine lining for a warm, comfortable feel. With the Langham you have the option of choosing either the finest quality cedar shingle tiles, or slate effect roof tiles in a stylish grey or warm terracotta.

THE LANGHAM


The Binham is a traditionally designed studio, with a roof overhang and desk height windows, ideal for a workspace or hobby room.

With quintessential traditional looks, and modern insulation, lining and double glazing, this handsome Studio will complement your garden surroundings and be suitable for use all year-round.

The Binham will be finished in your colour choice from our exterior paint system, or you can upgrade to Farrow & Ball’s paint range for as bold or subtle a look as you wish. Internally, the studio will have a natural, solid pine lining for a warm, comfortable feel. With the Binham you have the option of choosing either the finest quality cedar shingle tiles, or slate effect roof tiles in a stylish grey or warm terracotta.

THE BINHAM


Whether you opt for a traditional or contemporary style, the features included with our Studios provide you with a space that can be used throughout the year.

All our Studios are completed with high-grade insulation, including the roof, walls and floor. All the windows and doors are fitted with draught excluders and come with toughened double-glazed safety glass to ensure they can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.

For sunny days and warmer months, each Studio has been designed to incorporate plenty of ventilation with a variety of window opening options and lockable catches to maximise air flow. For extra peace of mind, all our Studios also come with a five-lever mortise lock and lockable window fittings for added security.

STORAGE COMBINATIONS

If you are short on garden storage space, we can incorporate smart solutions into your garden building design.

We offer the option of including a partition within the studio to create a stylish work or hobby space with an adjoining secure storage area.

Alternatively, we can create a matching shed to sit alongside your new studio. This will be tailor made to complement the studio design as well as your overall garden surroundings.


TIMBER

We are proud to say that we are an FSC® certified company and we partner with a timber mill in northern Sweden.

This timber mill is also FSC® certified, thus ensuring a constant supply of high quality timber.

We use Scots Pine that is sourced from an area of forest that has been growing for more than 130 years at latitudes above 65° north. In these conditions the trees are slowly grown, ensuring a high quality, dense timber, less susceptible to dead knots.

The mill manages their forests in a sustainable way, replanting each tree. All of this cut timber is then independently (VMF) inspected, classified and stamped to ensure traceability and quality.

After the timber is sawn into workable pieces, it is kilned to achieve the required moisture content. Crane Garden Buildings needs the moisture content for external British conditions, so that the timber works perfectly with our paint systems. Having such close links with the mill ensures our high standards are met.

When ready, the timber is then sent directly to us from the mill. It is not sitting on docks or waiting (and deteriorating) for transportation by other companies.

The timber mill produces no waste or landfill, every part of the tree is used.

90% of waste produced at our workshops is timber, which is used to fuel our heating system (thereby not using fossil fuels). The remaining waste that we produce is back sorted for recycling.

By buying our buildings you can be assured that, not only is the timber of the best possible quality, but also that, along the way, you have supported good forestry practice and sound environmental responsibility.

All our Garden Studios are built to order, which allows you to design the building that best suits you, your house and your garden.

TWO

Choose your windows and doors

All of our windows and doors are expertly handcrafted by joiners in our workshops and use toughened double glazed safety glass for security and insulation.

Each of our Garden Studios comes with the option to choose the perfect placement of the doors and windows, and the added opportunity to include additional doors and windows to add extra light and access within your own tailored design.

Added features, such as Velux® windows in the roof, will allow extra light to pour in, which is excellent if you have a shaded garden, or if you just want natural light in abundance to be able to brighten up your building.

For that extra little finishing detail, you also get to choose between polished brass or chrome door and window furniture, which you can choose to go with the colour scheme you have selected.

Choose your interior finish...

Your choice of internal lining can dramatically affect the look and feel of your Studio. With superb detailing and a professional finish, the light and airy Ivory painted lining gives a clean and bright feel to the inside. As well as Ivory, you can also choose between 5 Farrow & Ball shades to match your interior design choices with the walls perfectly (please see page 27).

Alternatively, our natural wood lining is included with our Studios, offering a warm and cosy feel to the interior.

Tailor your building to your exact needs by choosing our engineered flooring to sit on top of the floorboards. This flooring will provide further insulating and sound absorbing benefits, and is available in 4 different colour effects.

Also, if you are planning for frequent footfall or storing weighty items inside, you can choose our heavy-duty floorboards for added support.

For lighting and using any equipment in your building, you may wish to consider our electric pack to enable you to use your Studio all year-round. Professionally fitted by qualified electricians who take all the wiring to a consumer unit ready for you to connect to your electricity supply. Internal wiring will be fitted behind the interior lining. We can also supply your building with a heater.

Choose your colour and exterior finish

Our roofing options deliver in both style and performance; our finest quality Canadian cedar shingle tiles have a natural beauty and gracefully age over time into a grey/silver tone, and our slate-effect tiles are individually laid, are extremely durable, and are available in two colours, grey or terracotta, to give a clean, refined finish to the building.

Alternatively, our Salthouse is usually finished with our heat-bonded, heavy-duty felt; however, where the Salthouse roof is visible, our Sedum roof option offers an attractive and individual look that your garden and the surrounding wildlife will thank you for.

When choosing your roof cover style, think about whether it complements your choice of external paint colour and your setting.

Now it’s time to finish off the outside of your Studio by choosing your paint colours and exterior wood finish. Choose from smooth shiplap cladding or sawn weatherboard cladding for a more rustic finish, and pick your perfect colour from either our exterior or Farrow & Ball paint ranges shown on the next page.

Site preparation

Finally, let us know if you would like our expert installers to also install a concrete base for your new Studio.

We have an in-house base laying team who will be able to lay the correct sized base at your chosen location before the building is installed.

Inspired by nature and soft neutral tones, our extensive colour range is offered in best quality, weather resistant layered paint. This four-coat system has been proved to be the best possible protection for exterior timber. It is a fully opaque system and will enhance any building, giving an exceptionally durable, low maintenance solid finish.

A range of Farrow & Ball exterior and interior paint colours have been specially selected for Crane Garden Buildings. Farrow & Ball exterior eggshell paint has a mid-sheen finish, suitable for use on all our garden buildings. The paint is durable, flexible and highly resistant to flaking and peeling, as well as having anti-fungal properties and being water resistant.

INTERIOR PAINT OPTIONSAs well as exterior colours, we have also worked with Farrow & Ball to offer you 5 interior paint colours in soft, neutral shades to help you match your planned furniture perfectly to the interior.


Our experienced and professional fitters deliver and install all our buildings free of charge.

As our business is very much dependant on our reputation in providing an excellent product and service our customer care is exceedingly important to us. From design stage through to installation providing the best possible service is our number one priority.

Once your order has been placed, access has been discussed, and the delivery date has been agreed upon, one of our teams will arrive on the day and install your new building, ready for you to use and enjoy.

DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION

JOINERY

Within our workshops we house our own joinery works. Skilled carpenters make the doors and windows for all the buildings we produce. This ensures that the quality we demand is met.

Years of experience taught us that buying in windows and doors is not ideal as they never fit quite as well as our high standards demand. Having total control over the quality and finish of our buildings is of prime importance to us.

Our studio doors are joinery made by us. They are constructed from hemlock, which is a timber particularly suitable for doors. Apart from being durable it is far less susceptible to movement and warping than other timbers traditionally used for doors.
