Project staff, funded by foundations, bring teams of college leaders together to discuss student success issues. A key component of the work of these college teams is the provision and analysis of data on intermediate measures and academic behaviors. How do we define student success?

1. Can the myriad student goals be systematized into a system of metrics that can be used to objectively quantify student success?

Page 12: The Future of our Colleges: Student Success ASCCC Futures Committee.

2. What metrics would you propose for measuring student success?

3. What alternatives to clearly defined metrics might be used to measure student success?

4. What data do we not currently collect that we need in order to accurately track and understand our students?

5. As higher educational professionals, should we have goals for our students that exceed their goals for themselves?
