The Format for Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC

Section A: Plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement (attach separate sheet if required).
Plan of action chalked out by IQAC -
1. A Meeting was conducted in November 2011 to decide the plan of quality maintenance and
sustenance. The NAAC Peer Team visit report was read out thoroughly. Accordingly the action
plan was decided as under –
a) Improvement in quality of teaching through teaching aids.
b) ICT methods to be used in teaching.
c) Improving students‟ participation in academic and extra-curricular activities.
2. It was realized that, Research and Development Cell will have to make stringent efforts to bring
out more research and consultancy.
3. Plan for optimum utilization of infrastructure was chalked out.
4. Plan for initiating new Need Based Programme such as programme for “Effective
Communication Skills”, Programme in Calculation and accounting skills and workshop on
„Income Tax‟ were also suggested for the next 2 years.
5. Plan for maintenance of college equipments and lab as good investment was being worked out &
accordingly a post of Lab Assistant is to be created newly in the college.
6. The college office administration is to be improved for self-financing courses.

The Vision of our institute is to be socially oriented eminent educational institute nurturing talent and
advancing knowledge in a vibrant learning environment having quest for quality.
Social Orientation
Our institute is having strong bonding with the society. Various co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities are conducted by the institution to fulfill Social expectations.
Nurturing Talent
The institution strives to develop the skills of students by organizing various programmes of
personality development, giving impetus to the students to develop their hidden talent. All the
efforts are made to build their personality.
Advancing Knowledge
The institution supports both the time tested and modern methods of teaching to match the needs
of students. The institution provides support to the faculty for adopting innovative methods of
teaching for the benefit of the students through participation in co- curricular programme.
Vibrant Learning Environment
Recognizing the dynamic/ vibrant changes in the world around, the institution prepares the
student to take the challenges of technology and time. The congenial atmosphere in the college
enables student to enrich their knowledge.

quality', the Adarsh College of Arts & Commerce strives to create and disseminate an atmosphere of
learning and research of a high academic, professional, ethical and ecological standard in which

languages and social sciences, commerce and management - which result in all round personality
development of the learners and enable them to fulfill the needs of industry and the society at large.
Accordingly, every year the performance by the students and the staff is a step towards betterment.
The College considers itself to be the best competitor of its own and strives consistently towards
betterment of its performance.
MISSION:
To impart quality educational services as per changing needs of the time.
Continuous efforts are taken to impart to learners, the knowledge and skills that are relevant to the
demands of the changing times. Encouragement is given to the faculty to adopt innovative methods
like PowerPoint presentation, use of transparencies (O.H.P.), mock interviews, field visits, Group
discussion, educational CD/VCD's show, etc. of teaching that will cater to the needs of learners at
various levels of study.
To make education all inclusive for students in and around Badlapur from socially
underprivileged classes.
The College has been recognized as a premiere institute of learning in the town, which can be seen
through the rush for admission to the college. The college gives preference to the first generation
learners who come from the economically and socially underprivileged classes of the society. The
students of Arts faculty are mainly from the nearby villages and from weaker sections of society.

To transmit students’ potential capacity into Man-Making by encouraging them to learn in
competitive atmosphere.
Learners are regarded as the focal point of all activities and efforts are taken to adopt policies that
effectively meet their needs. Teachers impart skills which can translate into practical applications in
various spheres of life, viz. personal, professional and national. This supports curricular training with
co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which is aimed at all round personality development of
the learners. The college provides learner-centric academic and personal enrichment opportunities.
The learners are empowered to pursue their goals and are guided towards self-actualization.
To aim at making good citizens of India having deep rooted Indian Culture.
With the support of NSS and NCC activities, students are sensitized about social, ecological,
economic and political issues of India & are encouraged to find solutions that will benefit the whole
nation. Many of the social workers and eminent personalities from various fields are invited in the
institute for their interviews, felicitations and guiding lectures, like Smt. Sindhutai Sapkal (President
Award Winner), Dr. Abhay Bang (Social Worker) who encourage and guide the students to create
responsible citizens.
Reflection of Mission Statement
Our institution believes that the goal of education is the overall development of student‟s
personality so that they become better citizens of the society. As stated in our mission statement,
education is for man making and nation building.
`The college is a place of information dissemination, and also the centre for the development of
potential of the students. It is reflected through various activities that we undertake not only for
our students but also for the students belonging to various schools and the colleges in the
surrounding. Various activities of NSS and Women Development Cell aim at nurturing the talent
of the students.

The college admits majority of students from the economically and socially underprivileged
classes of the society. The students of Arts faculty are mainly from nearby villages and from

Institution organizes special guidance lectures for T.Y.B.A. and T.Y.B.Com. students to prepare
them for University Examinations and to excel in the chosen field of study. Similarly remedial
lectures for the students who have failed in F.Y. and S.Y. classes are also organized.
The college conducts wide range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The college
conducts State level and National level seminars with socially oriented views. The college
conducts programme for better outcome with various organizations and invite participation of
eminent personalities for programmes.

discipline chosen by them.
II. To provide opportunities enabling students explore their latent capacities for personality
development.
III. To prepare them for life by giving education „beyond classrooms‟ through extension and
association activities and development of skills.
IV. To imbibe Indian tradition, culture and value system in the minds of students.
V. To promote excellence through Educational innovative programmes.
VI. To promote discipline and punctuality, obedience and social commitment with patriotism.
Action initiated to realize the goals:
The institution appoints highly qualified faculty. Five of our faculty members have secured Ph.D.
degree and three faculty members are pursuing Ph.D.
Many of our faculty members are familiar with ICT techniques.

The Faculty members regularly participate in the National and International level
Seminar/Conferences/Congress and present the research papers in keeping with the tradition of
active participation The Faculty members publishes their research articles in the Peer Reviewed
Journals.
A wide range of socially oriented activities „Beyond the Classroom‟ are organized through NSS
& Women Development Cell to attain social community development.
Every year „Regional Dress Day‟ competition is organized where each class represents one
particular Indian state to depict culture of that state including geographical features, festivals,
food habits etc. This year also the competition received overwhelming response from the
students.
To ensure and inculcate perfect discipline among students:
The Code of Conduct is displayed on every floor through laminated posters.
The information regarding Code of Conduct and Attendance is given through the Prospectus at
the time of admission.
This year marks the 150th Birth Anniversery of Ravindranath Tagore. Grabing this opportunity
the institution started the practice of having Jahan Man NirBhay Mastak Unnat (Gitanjali) as its
daily prayer.
At the beginning of the academic year the Principal delivers „Welcome Address‟ explaining rules
and regulations along with necessary information about curricular, co-curricular and extra-
curricular activities.
Parents meetings are conducted regularly. The dates are communicated to the parents through the
prospectus well in advance. In the parents meeting the Management, Principal and the faculty
members interact with the parents. Parents were informed about various programmes conducted
by the institution. Discussion was held on different issues and suggestions from parents are
invited.

The students are encouraged to participate in the Seminars and Workshops organized by the
institution to broaden their horizon and give competitive edge to their personality.
The students were encouraged to participate in the intercollegiate cultural and sports competitions
organized by various colleges and institutions.
The institution annually organizes intra- and inter-collegiate cultural festival „HARMONY‟
which gives students an opportunity to exhibit their talent. The Annual Social Gathering was
organized in the month of December.
Various Associations and Departments organized the programmes to encourage the students in
being socially committed citizens.
To promote patriotism amongst students and community, institute organized Community Flag
Hoisting on the occasion of Independence Day and Republic Day at eight places in Badlapur.

A Workshop on Interview Techniques:
We organized an Interview Technique Workshop and invited Mr. Manohar Sadekar, a well
known management professional to guide our students.
Women Development Cell.
Women Development Cell strives to empower the girl students in the college by
informing them about the challenges they have to face and to prepare them through training
programs and using examples of personalities.
The institution is organizing Matrudin for last four years. This year our theme for
Matrudin was „Kashtevina Phal Nahi‟ (One cannot succeed without striving). Smt. Sindhutai
Sapkal, an eminent social worker and winner of President of India Medal was invited as Chief
Guest. The highlight of the programme was the felicitation of two mothers who have taken great
efforts to raise their children.

The institute also organized „Vhay Mi Savitri‟- a mono act was performed by Dr. Ujwala
Karande enlightening the students about life of Savitribai Phule.
Legal Info Cell:
Advocate Mrs. Pallavi Joshi, an eminent lawyer was invited by Legal Info Cell to deliver a
lecture on „Laws for Women‟ for the girl students.
Health and Counseling Cell:
Health and Counseling cell of our institution has helped the students by organizing programme
for this purpose. This year F.Y.B.Com students were counseled about examination stress through
the lecture „How to Control Fear and Anxiety? Counseling cell guides students regarding
preparation for examinations and other personal issues. An informative lecture on „Cancer
Awareness‟ by Dr. Vijay Gokhale was organized in the second term.
Career Guidance:
Institution organized a guidance lecture on the theme „Challenges of Competitive Examinations‟.
Mr. Samir Bhatkar, (Class-I Gazetted Officer of Maharashtra State) was invited to guide the
students about M.P.S.C and U.P.S.C. examinations. Mr. Anand Mapuskar, a well known career
counselor from Career Foundation, Mumbai was invited to guide the students about various
career options after graduation. The students having craze for drama and cinema were guided by
Sudhir Nandgaonkar, Chairman, Federation of Film Society.

Equity:
All the students are treated equally while implementing rules, regulations, discipline, decorum
and in maintaining various systems of the college. No discrimination either in approach or system
can be found at any time.
Self Development:
The Institute insists on self development of the students as our top priority. Institute organizes
personality development programme, interview technique workshops, entrepreneurship
development, workshop on investment, FOCUS (an inter-collegiate presentation competition).
Faculty members of Institute encourage the students to participate in various literary, theatrical
and cultural competitions. To write articles and get them published in our publications such as
Srujan (the college magazine), Asmita (handwritten magazine by Marathi Vangamaya Mandal),
Umang (Annual magazine of NSS Unit), Image (Annual magazine of Self Financed Unit),
Adarsh Mitra (yearly proto type newspaper of Journalism section of Y.C.M.O.U. Centre). We
publish Synectics a compilation of research papers presented by college faculty members at
various National & International Seminars/Conferences.

Community and National Development:
The NSS and NCC units of the college organize various community and national development
programmes. NSS Unit organized Blood Donation Camp, Eye Check up Camp, distribution of
note books collected by our students among poor children in slum area, celebration of Rakhi
Pournima with children from slum areas and Seven day residential camp in Kanhor village. The
NSS Unit actively participated in survey under Save Energy Campaign, National Pulse Polio
Campaign and No Smoking Campaign. Community Flag Hoisting on Independence Day and
Republic Day is a major activity of NCC cadets and NSS volunteers.
Ecology and Environment:
As a part of curriculum we have Environmental Studies as well as Foundation Course I and II
papers at F.Y.B.Com. / B.A., S.Y.B.Com / B.A., F.Y.B.M.S. courses. We encourage our students
to prepare projects on environmental issues under the subject of Foundation Course II. The
environmental awareness is created among the students through Paryavaran Dakshata Manch
(Environment Awareness Association). The college has subscribed the journals on environmental
awareness such as Down To Earth.
Value Orientation:
The Institute believes in value education. Organization of value education programmes such as
Matrudin, Guru Pournima, Youth Day, National Security Day etc. are aimed at the same. The
eminent personalities are invited on these occasions to guide our students. Even the morning
prayer gives the students patriotic lessons. Our teachers emphasize on right values while
explaining various concepts. The values like honesty, integrity, patriotism, transparency in
dealings, commitment are imbibed through social campaign and teamwork.
Employment Opportunities:
The Institution prepares students for various employment avenues and makes available the
employment opportunities to them. Last year interview techniques workshop was organized. The
Institute organizes Campus Interviews in association with various corporate / business
organizations / Banks.

ICT :
We have a fully equipped computer lab with internet facility and an Audio Visual Room with
multimedia facility. Our T.Y.B.Com students and the students of Self Financed Courses have
computer related subjects in their curricula. Our students use internet for their project works. Our
teachers use various audio visual techniques. They make power point presentations and also
encourage the students to prepare power point presentations.
Global and National Demands:
We conduct various activities to prepare our students to meet the demands of globalization. We
conducted workshops on entrepreneurship development, investment. We organized the seminar
on industry related topics and invited eminent industrialists as resource persons. We organized
industrial visit. We invited our alumni who have established themselves in various fields to share
their experience and motivate the students.
2. New Academic Programmes Initiated (UG and PG):
i. Centre for Research in Business Economics. The College is recognized as a Ph. D. Center
for Research in Business Economics by University of Mumbai.
3. Innovation in curricular design and transaction:
Members of the Teaching Staff hold various responsible positions on University Committees,
which enable them to contribute to important decisions in the teaching and learning process.
Dr. Vaidehi Dapatardar, Principal and Head, Dept of Economics is a member of Academic
Council and member of Faculty of Arts of University of Mumbai.
This year she was also appointed as a member of Committee for recommendations of Honours
Programme at UG and PG levels by Faculty of Arts of University of Mumbai.
Dr. Vaidehi Dapatardar was appointed as Convener of Expert Committees of University of
Mumbai.

Dr. Vaidehi Dapatardar was nominated as Subject Expert on the Panel of Career Advancement
Scheme (CAS).
Dr. Shraddha Soman, Asso. Professor and Head, Dept. of Marathi is a member of Academic
Council and member of Faculty of Arts of University of Mumbai.
Dr. Shraddha Soman, Asso. Professor and Head, Dept. of Marathi was appointed as Convener of
Local Inquiry Committee of University of Mumbai.
Dr. Shraddha Soman was appointed as subject expert in Marathi on Selection Committee at
Goveli College, Goveli.
Dr. Shraddha Soman was appointed as Vice Chancellor‟s Nominee as subject expert on the
placement committee.
Mr. Mandar Thakur, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of History was appointed as member of
syllabus framing committee for M.A. History, programme based on Credit Based Grade System
which will be implemented from academic year 2012-2013.
Mr. Satish Pharate, Asst. Professor and Head, Dept. of Accountancy, was appointed as subject
expert in Accountancy on Selection Committee at Shivle College, Shivle, Murbad and Mutha
College, Kalyan.
The members of the Teaching Staff use innovative teaching methods to simplify the learning process
and make it more interactive and interesting. Students are techno savvy and many are well exposed
to use of email and websites. The question papers of the previous years are posted on college website.
Department of Economics:
To facilitate the teaching and make the subject interesting, the department used the methods such
as quiz, extempore review, surveys, projects and open book exams. Guest lecture series are also
arranged for students of T. Y. B.A. and T.Y.B.Com. to improve their performance at university
examinations. Debates for Competitive Analysis and understanding are organized at the class
level. The students of T.Y.B.A. conducted projects on rural development and S.S.I. &

Entrepreneurship for their academic papers VI & IX. Assistance is given by library and the
teachers provide necessary guidance.
Department of Marathi:
Revised syllabus for Marathi Paper VIII for T.Y.B.A. was introduced during academic year 2011-
2012. Movies and documentaries based on the syllabus were shown to the students. The students
were encouraged to pick characters from drama from the syllabus and collect the information.
They were also encouraged to write assignments on various playwrights. The T.Y.B.A. students
were given the projects on book review, interviews of eminent personalities and data collection
on various issues. The question bank was provided to the F.Y., S.Y. students. Various articles and
newspaper cuttings were displayed on departmental notice board. ICT techniques were used as
teaching methods. The Guidance lectures for T.Y.B.A. students were arranged. The students were
sent to attend the workshop and various literary competitions.
Department of History:
Revised syllabus for History was introduced for S.Y.B.A. Paper. II and III and Re-revised
syllabus was introduced for F.Y.B.A. Paper I. The students of T.Y.B.A. were encouraged to
prepare power point presentations. Students undertook surveys for the completion of the projects
at T.Y.B.A. The home assignments were given to the F.Y.B.A. students to collect information on
social reformers. Documentaries were shown to the students. A collection of photographs of
Hampi (remains of Vijayanagara monuments) was shown to students. Various articles and
newspaper cuttings were displayed on department notice board. The question bank was provided
to the F.Y., S.Y. students. ICT were frequently used during lectures. The Guidance lectures for
T.Y.B.A. students were arranged.
Department of Commerce:
The T.Y.B.Com students were given assignment on their favorite advertisement whereby they
were asked to analyze critically those ads. The question bank in the subject of Export Marketing

at T.Y.B.Com was e-mailed to the students. The newspaper cuttings and articles related to the
subject of MHRM at T.Y.B.Com were displayed on department notice board to invite debates &
discussion. Awareness is created among the students. Annual Reports of the various companies
were circulated among S.Y.B.Com. students to help them in actual documentation in the subject
of Company Secretarial Practice. F.Y. and S.Y.B.Com. students were encouraged to prepare
presentations.
Department of Accountancy:
Department created assignments and viva of T Y B Com students in the subjects of Financial
Accounting and Direct & Indirect Taxation. Students were encouraged to make PPT on any four
topics out of various given topics. The S Y B Com students were provided with online question
banks as well as offline question banks and PPT was made by the teachers of the department in
the subject of Financial Accounting, Taxation for T Y B Com students and in Business Law for S
Y B Com students.
Department of English:
Revised syllabi for Communication Skills in English (F.Y.B.A.) and Business Communication
(F.Y.B.Com.) are introduced during the Academic Year 2011-12. The students are given
assignments and projects. Tutorials are conducted for F.Y.B.Com students to encourage them to
improve their oral skills. They are given special guidance about how to appear for interviews and
group discussions.
Department of Humanities:
a) Subject of Psychology:
The students were given topics for discussion with sufficient time for preparation. Assistance was
provided for completion of assignments. The students were given counseling and guidance for
their better result & some kind of personal problems. The objective type question bank was

provided to the students for Foundation Course Paper I for F.Y.B.A. and F.Y.B.Com. students.
Regular revisions were taken in the class.
b) Subject of Philosophy:
During academic year 2011-12, revised syllabus was introduced in the subject of Philosophy at
F.Y.B.A. The brain storming sessions, power-point presentations, question-.answer sessions and
quiz are used during teaching sessions. Assignments, projects are given to students. Students were
sent to participate in various competitions and they bagged prizes in various competitions.
c) Subject of Political Science :
Students are given assignments through which they can obtain knowledge of current political
scenario. Students are encouraged to participate in the group discussion on topics related to
current issues.
4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started
Institute organized Matrudin Program, various seminars in association with N.S.S., Women
Development Cell & Staff Academic Forum.
5. Examination reforms implemented.
i. For F.Y. Classes Credit and Grading System is implemented as per university rules
ii. The examinations were conducted according to the pattern prescribed by the University.
iii. In-house exam paper printing is done to maintain secrecy
iv. Two class tests for each term for internal evaluation were commonly conducted.
v. For F.Y. B.A. & B. Com. Classes & T.Y.B.Com Classes two assignments were given for
internal evaluation.

The college office, especially admission, examination and accounts is fully computerized.
The examination section is fully equipped with computerized system. The computer generated
hall-tickets and mark sheets are issued. Question paper printing is done through copier machine at

Institute has Health and Counseling Cell to help the students.
This year Blood donation camp, Blood group and Hemoglobin checking camp were organized in
association with Nair Hospital Blood Bank, Mumbai.
Eye check up camp was organized under 20-20 vision UNESCO programme in association with
Janmada Medical Foundation, Badlapur.
A lecture was organized on „Cancer Awareness‟ by Dr. Vijay Gokhale, a retired officer from Tata
Institute, Mumbai.
34. Performance in sport activities
The College has a well equipped gymkhana with adequate space and sports equipments. Institute
has a very large ground for outdoor games too. Students take advantage of this ground for
practice. Institute appoints professional coaches to train the students for various games.

Cash awards are given to the sportspersons.
College provides sports kit and T.A., D.A. to the students who participate in various
competitions.
Students who represent the college in various sports are unable to attend classes regularly due
the demands of their training schedule and competitions. The teachers provide them extra
guidance in their studies whenever required to complete for lost learning.

1. Academic activities have been conducted as per the expectation of the Academic bodies &
University of Mumbai and Teaching Calendar announced in the beginning of the year as per the
plans.
2. All the Seminars / Conferences as planned were conducted in a very well manner which can be
substantiated by the Feedback of the delegates and visitors.
3. Through out the year ample opportunities were created for the students to develope the capacity
by organizing various activities. Student responded well to such appeal.
4. The University of Mumbai embarked upon new system of Examination based on Credit-Grading
for the first year Classes from 2011. The same was implemented in our College.
5. Two teachers/staff members were relieved on Faculty Improvement Programme of UGC to
enable them complete their Ph.D. work as early as possible. Accordingly they are likely to
submit their thesis during 2012-13.
6. There is optimum utilization of college infrastructure and facilities. The students are using IT lab
for Projects and AV Room is used for seminar / conference & for presentation of the students.
