Vision Statement
The Tekakwitha Conference is the Voice, Presence and Identity of Indigenous Catholics of North America under the protection and inspiration of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.
Our Mission Statement
We, as members of the Tekakwitha Conference inspired by Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, a young, Mohawk/Algonquin woman of the 17th century, renew our faith and reaffirm our baptismal call as followers of Jesus to proclaim the Good News. We pray with faith and hope for the
continued intercession of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha in the lives of all Peoples.
What are we, without community? “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayer… All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need.” Acts 2:42; 44-45
Selling our possessions and having all things “in common” can, at first, seem like a radical way of living. In western culture, especially here in the United States, we have grown used to the idea of rugged individualism. Every man or woman for themselves – at least this is what we’ve been taught.
The problem with individualism is that it tends toward a self-centeredness that places the needs and wants of the individual above those of the community. You see, there is a reason Christ commissioned His apostles to form a Church. It was God’s plan that communities of faith be established – communities where we teach one another, encourage one another, and hold one another accountable in the ways of the Faith.
The essence of this Church is love, and what is love but the complete and total gift of self. We cannot call ourselves Christians if we have not love. Love so desires the good of the other that it does not stop to take into account its own needs or wants. This, therefore, is the essence of our Christian faith – a concern so great for the good of one another, for the state of their very soul, that we refuse to act with indifference or to speak ambiguously when eternity hangs in the balance.
What a blessing, then, can our Kateri Circles be if we allow them to be a place where we pray, break bread together, and concern ourselves with the good of one another to the point which we truly begin to live “in common”? Let not our circles settle for being civic organizations, fundraising clubs, or mere social gatherings. Let them be opportunities for community and celebration of faith and tradition.
If you are not part of a circle – join one! If a Kateri Circle does not exist in your area, I would invite you to step out in faith and start one in your community!

Saint Kateri Prayer
By: Harold Caldwell
O Saint Kateri, Lily of the Mohawks,
Your love for Jesus, so strong, so steadfast,
pray that we may become like you.
Your short and painful life
showed us your strength and humility.
Pray that we may become
Forever humble like you.
Like the bright and shining stars at night,
we pray that your light
may forever shine down upon us,
giving light, hope, peacefulness
and serenity in our darkest moments.
Fill our hearts, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha
with your same love for Jesus
and pray that we may have the strength and courage
to become one like you in Heaven.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Canonization of
Nicholas Black Elk
Heavenly Father, Great Spirit! Behold us, who stand before you singing our song of thanksgiving for Servant of God, Nicholas Black Elk. Faithfully he walked the Sacred Red Road and generously witnessed the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ among the Native American people. We humbly ask you to hear the prayers we plead through his intercession. We ask Holy Mother Church to recognize his sanctity by acknowledging his presence among the company of Saints and as one to Imitate in his zeal for the Gospel. Open our hearts to also recognize the Risen Christ in other cultures and peoples, to your glory and honor through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer for the Beatification of the
Servants of God Antonio Cuipa and Companions
O God, Father of all nations, you have summoned
us to announce the freedom of your children. We
thank you for calling your Servants Antonio Cuipa
and his companions to proclaim the Catholic faith
during the birth of a new nation.
May their example of suffering and forgiveness give us the
courage to bear witness to Christ in our own time. We also
pray that they be counted one day among your saints.
Through the intercession of your Servants, grant us the
following grace which we ask from your loving kindness:
(here make your request) We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

The Christmas Rose
The feast of Epiphany brings the Christmas season to an end. To mark the day, here’s a litany called “Now the Work of Christmas Begins”
composed by Howard Thurman, and African-American theologian, educator, and civil rights leader.
When the song of the angels is stilled, When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home, When the shepherds are back with their flocks,
The work of Christmas begins: To find the lost,
To heal the broken, To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner, To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among the people, To make music in the heart.
To all our Tekakwitha Conference Family, Prayers and Best Wishes for a New Year
