  • 2 GUYS

2 GUYS is Roy Connors and Alan Scharf both previous members of the popular 1960’s folk singing group and recording artists, The Highwaymen. Their work is much more than the Highwaymen’s classic Michael Row The Boat Ashore. With a diverse set list and a unique, duet style, 2 GUYS brings us an evening with seasoned and deeply materialized professionals with over fifty years on the forefront of folk and acoustic music. 2 GUYS repertoire ranges from 60’s folk music and 80’s and 90’s classics, to pop standards and soft rock.

The Highwaymen had a string of number one hits and multi-million-selling records, including Michael (Row the Boat Ashore), Cottonfields, and Gypsy Rover. The Highwaymen recorded for ABC Paramount, toured the U.S. and Canada, and appeared in over 400 colleges and universities pleasing audiences all across the United States and Canada. They have appeared at Carnegie Hall four times and were guest artists on the following popular national TV shows: The Tonight Show, Today Show, Ed Sullivan Show, On Broadway Tonight, Sing a Song of Politics, Hullaballoo, Eydie Gorme Special, Mike Douglas Show, Al Hirt Variety Show, This Was the Week That Was, Merv Griffin Show.

What a treat to have a whole evening of music by legendary performers who were instrumental in adding so many standards to the songs we love and provided so many memories for many of us.

  • The Folk Club of South Florida Monthly SONG SWAP Sunday, August 9, 2015 5 - 9 PM The July Song Swap (photo above) was held at the home of Ronnie and Barry White. A huge Thank You! for hosting in your lovely home. We enjoyed a variety of music, original songs, and some oldies too. Guitars, a bouzouki, and a kazoo joined in the fun. Everyone enjoyed this musical evening.

HELP! We need a host/hostess for the September 13th Song Swap. If you are able to host the evening, please send a message to [email protected]

The Sunday, August 9, 2015 Song Swap will be held at the historicDice House, 10001 SW 82 Ave, Miami, FL 33156 from 5 to 9 PM. The evening will be hosted by Holly White and Andy Susman in honor of their August Birthdays! Dessert will be provided.

Song Swaps include a pot luck supper so please bring your contribution, enough for six to eight people. Also bring instruments you care to play. You can perform a song, tell a story, recite a poem, do a dance, make a request or just enjoy the offerings. Everyone is welcome!

Folk Club format for the Song Swap: All performers (performers include poets, dancers, singers, musicians) will enter their names on the performer’s sign-up sheet as they arrive at the song swap. The performers will perform in the order on the sign-up sheet. Those who are not going to perform, but who wish to hear a song, may write the name of the song on a separate request sheet. The performers, at their sole discretion, may select the requested song(s) to play during their turns.

Song Swap Etiquette: If you are playing a song, you may tell the group whether you wish for others to join in or not. If you are singing or playing while another person is taking his/her turn, sing or play softer than the lead performer. Please keep your selection to 5 minutes or less. Be prepared when it's your turn so we can keep the circle moving, and please remember to be mindful of each other in the circle by not speaking while someone is performing. Hope to see you there! Holly White

HOW OFTEN DO WE HEAR LEGENDS? SO WHERE ARE YOU?

The Folk Club of South Florida has been blessed with attracting some of the best performers in the country to its Acoustic Underground Series for over thirty years on the first Saturday of every month now at the Luna Star Cafe. 2 Guys is a good example; they are extremely talented and part of the current and historic folk and acoustic music fabric of this nation and the world. But something puzzles us: Why is attendance so low at these performances? The information is sent to hundreds of people yet we get minimum response. If you are one who sees the event announced but does not attend, please send us an email telling us why? All responses will be held in confidence but we really want to know the reasons.Thanks.
