I went out for a drive today and saw that one local river had the color and clarity of chocolate milk. Guess we will have to wait at least a few days to wet a line on local rivers. I did check the Oregon angling regulations and see that Big Creek and Gnat Creek are still open now for fishing. It is nice to fish in shirtsleeve conditions when you can. Whether there are any fish available is another question. I have only fished 1 day this year and only twice since November. From the reports I received, it has been a dismal year for winter steelhead around the Astoria area. It is April, however and trout fishing is heating up. Drifting a dry fly for cutthroat presents a good opportunity for action for the winter weary fly angler. We, as a club, are also having a club outing to Lost Lake on Wednesday the 25th. The outing will be hosted by Steve Wascher and Butch Pinson. On a different topic, it is the month of our annual Rainlanders Flycasters Banquet. It is our main fundraiser for the year for club social and conservation activities. We will hold the banquet on Saturday April 21st, with socializing starting at 5:30 and dinner served at 6:30 pm. It will be held in the basement of the American Legion Hall in Astoria, as usual. There is a no host bar. The club will provide ham, a small amount of KFC chicken, and potatoes. Please bring a potluck dish. The main event for the night is our raffle and silent and oral auctions. It is usually a fun filled night. Please bring friends and relatives for this annual dinner. Club WebsitePresident Ron Van Fleet has begun a new website for the club. Enter “flyrodder.online” on internet address bar and you will find our new website. We need members’ articles, stories and photos to make this website worthwhile and as a way to attract new members. Please send your submissions to Ron at [email protected].

Annual Banquet and AuctionThe April meeting will be the annual club banquet and auction on April 21 at the American Legion Club in Astoria. Rick Newton, our chairman, has sent in this message:Members,I am sorry that I did not get the packets out to you sooner to solicit donations, they are inthe mail, for the upcoming banquet April 21st. I realize time is short, but we still should have a great event. Anything you have donated, or can donate or get donated is much appreciated.

So everyone will know, the meal charge is $8, which we have not raised for many years; and any profits further the good work our club is able to do. Just so everyone will know,I have arranged for a new method for us to take credit cards, which I hope to be able to use at the meetings also.

So far we have several rod and reels:

A Loop rod 9ft 6wt with reel, line, and case. (A beauty) (Loop rod revues say they are supposed to be phenomenal casting machines)

A Flylogic 4/5wt in metal tube with a Cabela’s Prestige II 5-6 reel and line. (Ron says hecan throw the line 90 feet in his test of it). (My Flylogic rod and reel with line that I bought, donated by Dick Fogle, at a previous banquet is great casting, a favorite for Alaska)

A Redington 5wt with reel, line and case (Donated by Ron VanFleet)

A TFO Lefty Kreh NXT 8’6” 4/5 wt, NXT Series reel with line and case.

A Scientific Anglers matched Ampere 9ft 8wt, rod tube, an Ampere IV large arbor reel with an Ampere IV floating line (Should be a great Salmon outfit)

An Albright 3/4 reel, made in England.
