“Flakes” from the SKI-EO, We are looking for a great meeting in October. One of the things that can make it better is when you are there. MEMBER’S CORNER

Look who made it to Old Towne last month! Tim and Peggy came in to Chicago and celebrated Peggy’s birthday with the Snowdrifters. It started with a trip to Geneva’s Festival of the Vine and Old Towne Pub visit to see where we have our monthly meetings. Then, on Saturday some Snowdrifters attended the American-Germanfest in Chicago. It was great to see Tim and Peggy in our “neck of the woods.”

Hi Snowdrifters, Back in August, it was suggested that perhaps we should look into LOGO clothing and other fun stuff. We also received a favorable response at the General Meeting in September. So, I volunteered to see about pricing and availability through Grinnell Marketing, here locally in Bartlett, Illinois. The prices are based on a TOTAL of 72 pieces of clothing ordered and includes screen printing, shipping and tax. If more or less is ordered, prices will differ. These will also make great CHRISTMAS GIFTS. If we get the order in by the end of October, we can have them by the end of November. The BOARD discussed several colors, either black or royal blue with our SNOWFLAKE LOGO printed (every piece) in front (small over heart left side) or all large in the front. If we print the logo on the back, the logo would all be large sized. Prices Tee Shirts S-XL $6.50 XX $8.50 XXX $9.50 Sweatshirts “ 14.50 “ 17.50 “ 18.50 Hoodies “ 18.00 “ 21.00 “ 24.00 Bandanas 3.25 ea. License Plate Frames $4.00 ea (must order 100 pcs.) Embroidered Hats $10.00 ea (must order 50 pcs.) You can use this as your order form (circle items) and turn it in at the October meeting. Name:_____________________________________________________________________ Make check out to Snowdrifters Ski Club. Will be fun! Let’s be noticed on the slopes and everywhere we go! Donna B.

2018 “THE BUS TRIP”

BOYNE MOUNTAIN, MICHIGAN - February 23rd -25th, 2018 $440 with 2 day Lift ticket: $350 w/o Lift Ticket

Boyne is selling out fast! If you are interested in going on this trip do not delay in sending in your $50.00 deposit. Please also email me of your intent or with any questions you may have regarding the trip.

If you’re unfamiliar with Boyne Mountain, it’s located in northern Michigan (Lower Peninsula), and is home to an array of winter sport activities and the largest indoor waterpark in Michigan, Avalanche Bay. Located outside Boyne City, this Swiss/Austrian style getaway has more skiing and snowboarding terrain than any other Michigan resort. Boyne offers 500 vertical feet of drop, 60 runs (29 percent green, 41 percent blue, 30 percent black) and 415 skiable acres of terrain and 10 chairlifts. The average 140 inches of snowfall per year is serviced by 10 chairlifts. Boyne’s longest run is Cold Springs, stretching one mile. Two of Boyne’s most difficult slopes include Devil’s Dive and Nose Dive, both located near the mountain’s peak. For experiencing the silence and solitude of the winter woods, Boyne Mountain Cross Country Center has 22 miles of trails. Boyne also has a 750-foot tubing run with five lanes and snow shoe trails. There are complimentary sleigh rides on most Friday and Saturday nights. A full service spa is located in the Mountain Grand Lodge. There are on property shuttles and shopping. Our accommodations are at the Clock Tower Lodge. The guest rooms are slope side (ski in/out) and the lodge has a sauna and a luxurious heated outdoor pool, hot tubs, tubing, and ice skating. There is also a restaurant and lounge with nightly entertainment. Boyne Mountain Resort is also home to Avalanche Bay indoor waterpark, the largest indoor waterpark in Michigan, offering huge amounts of water fun for every age. This wet and wild waterpark is always 84 degrees and features six exciting water slides, including the park's newest thrill, The Big Couloir - a ProSlide SuperLOOP with the steepest drop in the industry, as well as a Rip Zone surf simulator, Splasherhorn Mountain interactive play structure, lazy river, children's pool, relaxing hot tubs, and many other unique waterpark attractions. Trip includes:

Round trip transportation on a bathroom equipped bus.

Pizza, snacks and beverages on the bus on Friday.

Two nights lodging at the Clock Tower (two per room).*

*If we have an odd number of singles, the last singles that sign up will be tripled up with the last person getting the roll-away bed (unless someone wants to pay extra for a single room). Boyne Trip Leader: Sue Stanciu, 630-306-3494 ([email protected])

Exceed your wildest dreams

Return with us to this “old wild west” resort which just got a lot tamer !

After opening two new high speed quads, Jackson Hole is now an intermediate’s playground with over 40% blue terrain to suit all levels. But the steeps, bowls, chutes, and spectacular tree skiing, still call for you. Your home will be the Parkway Inn (double occupancy hotel rooms), just a short shuttle ride to the mountain. Our accommodations include daily breakfast and a private shuttle to and from the mountain.

The town of Jackson is a charming Western town with plenty of restaurants, watering holes, art galleries and shopping for your off-mountain experience. See the antler arches that grace the town square, head to the Wort Hotel’s Silver Dollar Bar or the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar for music and dancing, or try one of the restaurants that led Wine Enthusiast to name Jackson as one of America's 5 New Foodie Cities.

Of course the main focus of the trip is 3 or 4 days of skiing on “The Big One.” The tram provides a true leg burning run of 4,139 vertical feet and access to Rendezvous Bowl, a high alpine experience with “jaw dropping” views.

The gondola, 3 high speed quads, 4 fixed grip quads, one triple, and 2 doubles will provide continuous skiing, not standing in line. Epic snowfall (459”) plus 2,500 acres consisting of 10%
