PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Sparks of revival fires are in the air. Our church fathers are talking about it. There is an aura of expectancy and some believe revival is here already.

In his Foreword in Unfolding His Story, a book which I co-authored with my son, Galven, Bishop Rennis Ponniah, Bishop of Singapore, said:

“There is a growing sense within the body of Christ in Singapore that we could well be on the cusp of a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The coming renewal and revival will see a deeper and more encompassing work of the Holy Spirit.”

“This is God’s response to the growing darkness that is enveloping the globe (Isaiah 60:1-3; 61:1-4). The power and presence of the Lord will fill and overflow His people to touch our nation and the nations of the world.”

Singapore’s relatively short history has seen two known nation-wide spiritual revivals — the John Sung revival of the 1930s and the Charismatic revival forty years later in the 1970s.

Many of those saved or revived in the John Sung meetings at Telok Ayer Methodist Church were instrumental in leading the Charismatic revival forty years hence. They include well-known men of faith like Khoo Oon Theam, the late Goh Ewe Kheng, and Dr Khoo Oon Teik.

Forty years represent a generation. We are now forty years past the outbreak of the 1970s Charismatic revival. It is therefore no surprise that church fathers like Bishop

Rennis Ponniah have been speaking of a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit, bringing another nation-wide revival.

Looking back while researching and writing the book Unfolding His Story, the Lord unveiled before our eyes, how, like a master craftsman, He wonderfully wove together the various events and players into a rich tapestry that we now appreciate as the Charismatic movement.

God is the author of history. History is His Story. He is still scripting His Story. It has a beginning, a middle and an end that is yet to come. His Story is still unfolding.

Over the past fifty years or so since independence, the Singapore church has experienced different spiritual seasons. During the 1960s and before, the church’s fault lines ran between the liberal and evangelical positions. Singapore was then transiting from a crown colony to independence. Christians formed only five per cent of the population of under two million. The church was seen as a Western import and Christianity, a ‘white man’ religion.

The liberals were largely found among the Western clergy in the mainline denominations like the Anglican and Methodist churches. They were associated with promoting the ‘social’ gospel that focused on community/social action including issues like human and labour rights. Their counterparts in the Catholic church were associated with the ‘liberation theology’ movement. However, the activities of the liberals were stymied when the newly independent Singapore government intervened and clamped down on their activities which were deemed by the authorities as encroaching into the political turf and therefore, out of bounds to religious institutions.

The evangelicals, largely from the more conservative denominations like the Brethren, Bible Presbyterian and Baptist churches made better progress in newly independent Singapore. Their churches as well as para church organisations like the Youth For Christ (YFC), Inter-School Christian Fellowship (ISCF) and the Varsity Christian Fellowship were effective in reaching out to youths then — the post war baby boomer generation. It was also the era of mass evangelistic campaigns like the Billy Graham and Luis Palau crusades.

The key message during this period was the salvation gospel and eternal life through God’s only son, Jesus Christ, given the low penetration of Christianity among Singaporeans then. The banner Bible verse was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not

perish but have everlasting life.” It brought an increase in conversions to Christianity.

However, the church faced new challenges in a nation that had just shrugged off its colonial status. Hitherto, Singapore was a crown colony and the church enjoyed state patronage, on account that Christianity was the state religion of our colonial masters, the United Kingdom. With independence, this privilege was gone and the Singapore church had to earn its rite of passage by being relevant to the people of an independent nation.

Despite some initial success in reaching out to the young population, the evangelicals, nonetheless, also struggled with challenges in bringing relevance of their faith in a newly-minted nation. Church growth was still sluggish.

It was in the midst of these challenges that the Lord wrought on Singapore the Charismatic revival that rode the church wave from the 1970s to the 1990s. It was the era of the ‘full gospel’ when the preaching on salvation came with full power encounter of the Holy Spirit.

‘Signs and wonders’ and miracles abounded. It was Pentecost again. The conversation of the day revolved around the understanding of the “baptism of the Holy Spirit”. But it was not without controversies. “Full gospel” was the commonly used term to describe those who believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit beyond salvation.

During this season of visible powerful manifestation of the work of the Holy Spirit, the banner verse was Acts 1:8. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

It was also during this period that Billy Graham, who visited Singapore to conduct an evangelistic rally at the National Stadium in 1978, prophesied that Singapore would be the Antioch of the East.

The Charismatic revival brought total transformation to the Singapore church landscape and imbued the church fathers with new found confidence to reach out to people across the nation and also, to

other nations. The spiritual reverberations were felt everywhere but it also brought the church under the scrutiny of the authorities, fearful of its implications on our multi-religious society.

The revival was a key driver in propelling the percentage of Christians in Singapore: From 5% of a population base of under two million in the 1960s, to just under 20% of the current enlarged population base of over five million. It also precipitated the rise of mega churches, defined as churches with congregation size of 2,000 or more.

Not only that, mission work out of Singapore bloomed as the nation prospered, with churches pouring massive resources to bring the gospel to nations in Asia and far beyond. The impact of this work sealed Singapore’s destiny as the Antioch of the East.

By the end of the second millennium and as we ushered in the third millennium, God began another shift. The Charismatic revival kindled explosive church growth. The rapid expansion of churches particularly, mega churches, has made positive contribution in spreading the gospel. However, it has in some instances led to an unintended church-centricity.

A publication of LoveSingapore, Perspective on Marketplace Ministry, has this to say:

In Acts 1:3, we are reminded that Jesus, after His resurrection went about preaching on the Kingdom of God. In this new season, we are witnessing a fresh awakening to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom, not just the Gospel of Salvation.

The message of the Kingdom is a call to focus on God’s primary mission which is the redemption and re-creation of the fallen world order to what He first intended when He created the world. This involves the whole of creation and all aspects of human life and activity. Bishop Rennis Ponniah said:

In the Great Commission, Jesus commanded us: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:19). It is a call for the restoration and redemption of not just individuals but people groups or nations and cultures which will honour the reign and rule of God in all areas of life. Preceding this verse, Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” We have been given His authority on earth and we are to exercise it.  He said in John 14:12: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.”

It is this fresh awakening that led FGB Gatekeepers to its current vision statement:

“ We are a body of believers, empowered by the Holy Spirit,

to transform the culture of nations through discipling men and women for the work of the

Kingdom of God.”

In the modern world, every nation’s culture and society is dominated by the seven ‘Cultural Gates’ of Arts, Entertainment and Sports; Business and Finance; Church and Religion; Distribution, Media and Communication; Education and Training; Family and Community and Government and Law.

AS GATEKEEPERS, WE ARE CALLED AND CHOSEN TO

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE CULTURE OF THE MARKETPLACE

AND NATION AND BRING THE VALUES OF THE KINGDOM OF

GOD TO THEM.

What is the impetus behind this season of revival that will see the advancement of God’s Kingdom on earth?

In the 1960s and earlier when the major concern was on sharing the salvation message, the key focus was on

God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, through whom we receive the promise of eternal life. Then came the Charismatic era when besides the salvation message, there were the powerful manifestations of the work of the Holy Spirit.

I BELIEVE THAT UNDERGIRDING THIS NEW

SEASON OF REVIVAL WHICH WILL SEE THE MANIFESTATION OF HIS HEAVENLY KINGDOM

ON EARTH WILL BE THE RETURN TO THE HEART OF ABBA FATHER

BY GOD’S PEOPLE.

In looking at His glorious moves over our nation, we witness God as the Trinity — God the rejoicing Father, God the obedient Son, and God the loving Spirit as the Presence between the Father and the Son. It is amazing but not surprising then that such a God would create us fathers on earth to embody something of his glorious fatherhood above.

In Malachi 4:5-6 we are told:  “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers…”

Also, the prayer taught by Jesus begins with “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:9-10). It starts first and foremost with recognising God, as our Father and then seeking for the heavenly Kingdom to be manifested on earth.

When Singapore was expelled from Malaysia in 1965, we became an orphan nation. We developed a kiasu culture. But God raised up a founding father who became a ‘Cyrus’ to the nation.

As a nation, we are witnessing our social and familial fabric being strained with the lost of the nation’s founding father. But lest we forget, the eternal God is our Father and He is there for us.

“ Ask of Me, and I will give you, the nations for

your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for

your possession.” (Psalm 2:8).

”IN THIS SEASON GOD IS CHALLENGING EARTHLY

FATHERS WHO WILL MANIFEST THE LOVE OF ABBA FATHER TO

HIS CHILDREN. WHEN THAT HAPPENS, FATHERS WILL NO

LONGER BE THE PROBLEM BUT THE SOLUTION.

Commenting on the father and son partnership in the authorship of our book, Unfolding His Story, Bishop Rennis Ponniah said:

“ Here is an instance of fathers being energised by the zeal of

their sons, and at the same time of sons being supported by the companionship of their fathers,

who add their wisdom and experience to the common task. A sign perhaps of the new reality

the Holy Spirit is leading the church in Singapore to.

”God is our father. He is also father over

the nations. Our God reigns.

To God be the glory.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

“ As more and more people were saved, our focus shifted

to church growth. As churches grew bigger and bigger,

we fell for the gospel of the Mega Church. Today the

biggest aspiration of many ambitious leaders is to pastor a mega church!”

“However, Jesus came to establish the Kingdom or the reign and rule of God on earth as it is in heaven. The reign of God is not just in the Church but in every

realm of society.”

“ The Kingdom of God is bigger than the Church.

“ The Kingdom of God goes beyond personal relationship

with God, to include the restoring of every aspect of human life

(family life, work, leisure, socio-political institutions and environmental responsibility)

to divine patterns so that God’s justice, compassion and

righteousness can be reflected in the here and now of

man’s existence.”

“In this sense, the church’s mission of extending the

Kingdom of God in the world (Isaiah 42:1-9, Matthew 5:3-16) is broader than world evangelisation.

Our mission must include leading people and people groups (nations) to saving faith in Jesus Christ and it must go beyond to restore a wayward and unjust

world to the ways of the Creator Redeemer God of the universe.

TAKE UP HIS CROSS AND FOLLOW

However good, the intentions alone will not yield results. Our choices and decisions have to be intentional, driven by activation of our Vision and Mission.

God is looking for Calebs with different spirit and has followed Him fully (Numbers 14:24). God is looking for followers to take up their Cross daily (Luke 9:23-24). God is pleased with those whose lives are aligned to His Will, His Way, and His Works (Philippines 2:13; 3:13; 4:13). God seeks those who believe in His promises without doubting (Matthew 21:21).

IDENTITY, INHERITANCE, IMPERATIVES

Our identity in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit entitles us to our inheritance in His kingdom; and requires imperatives and obedience to His instructions. In Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). In Jesus Christ our Lord, we are His new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). We LIVE His life of eternity, abundance, reconciliation, and resurrection (John 3:16; 10:10; 14:6; 11:25). In the Holy Spirit who MOVE in us, with us and upon us, we are His temple (1 Corinthians 3:16).

He directs our paths, orders our steps, reveals truths, convicts us of sin, righteousness and judgement, empowers us to witness and Minister. In God our Abba Father, we have our BEING as His sons and daughters Him working in us to Will and to Do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), showing us what is that good, and acceptable and

perfect will of God for our lives (Romans 12:2).

SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

We are in this world but not of this world (John 15:19). We have dual sonship and citizenship in heaven and on earth. Jesus declared that only those born again will see and enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3,5).

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, and given the power of attorney to use the mighty authoritative name of Jesus Christ, apostles and disciples are sent out as Kingdom Ambassadors daily in the marketplace as part of their work or business (Acts 17:17; Luke 9:1-2; Luke 10:5-9). God’s imperative to us is to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Why so? This is because His “righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). Cities like Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because God could not find righteous persons there. These cities, “having given themselves to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire” (Jude 1:7). The way out is to be washed by the blood of the Lamb, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-12).

THE GREAT COMMISSION

FGB Gatekeepers Singapore embarked on fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciples of all nations when we launched the Making Disciples of All Nations (MDN) School in 2012. As of today, several hundreds from the six continents of the world have either attended the Mini-MDN School or the six-day residential MDN School.

Our monthly Word Theme reinforces the “Teach” aspects of discipling. One-on-one as well as group discipling processes equip disciples to advance His Kingdom in all spheres of society. Our goal is to extend the Kingdom of God to 1,000 Kingdom Families and 1,000 Kingdom Businesses over the next three years.

After His resurrection, Jesus went about and spoke on the Gospel of the Kingdom. And as reported in Acts 1:1-2, He began ‘to do and to teach’ until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.

‘To do and to teach’ are imperative action words, requiring both actions.

FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s Vision was birthed by the Holy Spirit as an intention and imperative to gather the believers and have them empowered by the Holy Spirit to transform the culture of nations by discipling men and women for the work of the Kingdom of God.

This vision is now being intensified to both fulfill the WILL of our Heavenly Father — “Thy

kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10) — and to obey Jesus’ COMMANDS and mandates:

GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS, BAPTISING THEM IN THE NAME OF

THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, TEACHING THEM

TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU (TO DO) AND LO,

I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, EVEN TO THE END OF THE AGE.”

(MATTHEW 28:19-20)

Intentional discipling requires the making of disciples and also ‘preparing special people’ to advance His kingdom in all nations as instructed by Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) founder, Demos Shakarian, in his publication, Vision Intensifies: New Wave of Revival.

Leaders of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) Nigeria were ablaze with the fresh fires of Holy Spirit after attending the Mini-MDN School in Abuja, Nigeria from January 28 to 29, 2017. This impactful event was conducted jointly by the Nigerian fellowship and FGB Gatekeepers Singapore. Their hearts were re-ignited when they caught a fresh understanding of Vision Intensifies, written by the late founder of FGBMFI, Demos Shakarian before his death.

Emeritus President, Khoo Oon Theam who led the Singapore team shared with the leaders how Vision Intensifies is aligned with Jesus’ mandates and the importance of preaching the gospel of the Kingdom as well as to make disciples, and not converts ONLY. “We are Citizens and Ambassadors of the Kingdom called to advance His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven,” he reminded them.

‘Papa’ Khoo also prophesied that 2017 will be a breakthrough year, and apostles,

prophets and revivalists from Africa and Asia will bring the gospel of the Kingdom back to the rest of the world.

Opened to only FGBMFI Nigeria National Directors, the Mini-MDN School was attended by some 180 council members and National Directors and a few of the foreign delegates from the Full Gospel Global Forum (FGGF) Global Leadership Prayer Summit (GLPS).

Commenting on the Mini-MDN School, FGBMFI Nigeria National President, Ifeanyi Odedeo said, “It is an awesome experience … the Lord began to open our eyes to the reality of His calling on us, as members of the great vision, and His call to us as the apostles to the marketplace and to occupy for Him the Seven Mountains (Gates) of human existence.”

FGBMFI Nigeria’s National Vice President, International Outreaches, Boss Mustapha, remarked that the MDN School’s syllabus provided the answer to the ‘missing link’ in their discipleship training and the fellowship’s strategy.

Clearly elated with his learning at the Mini-MDN School, Ayo Badejo, President of the FGBMFI Lagos District South West 6 said, “Today at our district meeting, I spoke with all my people and emphasised the need to raise Disciples, Ambassadors and Apostles to possess the Seven Gates in Nigeria with God’s help.”

President of the FGBMFI Lagos District South West 7, Tom Ogboi, believes

that their fellowship and nation is at the threshold of a fresh revival as they embrace the challenge of advancing the Kingdom in all areas of life in their Nation.

Commenting on the five ‘E’s (Evangelise, Equip, Empower, Enlarge and Extend) stated in FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s mission statement,  Azike Diribe,  Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Full Gospel Global Forum (FGGF) and Secretary of FGBMFI Nigeria Board of Trustees, said that the first three ‘E’s are what we have been doing and similar to what the churches are doing. “What our fellowship needs to focus on now is the last two ‘E’s in addition to the first three,” he added.

“The original 1952 vision of Demos Shakarian is about the first three ‘E’s but Vision Intensifies, written in 1992, is about the last two ‘E’s in addition to the first three,” explained ‘Papa’ Khoo. The last two ‘E’s – Enlarge and Extend – is about multiplying disciples and enlarging the reach and spheres of influence, and

OUTREACH TO THE NATIONS

FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s (FGBGS) National President, Georgie Lee and Adviser, Jason Wong were among the main speakers at the Global Forum of Chinese Christian Entrepreneurs 2016 held in Hong Kong from September 16 to 18, 2016.

The forum, organised by FGBMFI Hong Kong was a strategic gathering of marketplace leaders from Israel, US, UK, China, Singapore and Taiwan and second generation leaders in the region.

It was to serve as a strategic platform to equip marketplace disciples and leaders for China-US spiritual alignment, China-Israel connection, establishing Hong Kong as a platform for China’s One Belt One Road westward journey for People’s Republic of China (PRC) leaders and linking the generations.

With the theme of ‘Innovation and Legacy’, the forum hoped to bring a shift to Kingdom Culture, nationally and globally.

FGBGS Young Gatekeepers, Galven Lee and Thecla Loh, also shared their personal journey and walk with God as panelists at the forum.

Participants at the forum were mainly Chinese Christian entrepreneurs from several nations — Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Canada, Israel, USA and Singapore.

Georgie Lee spoke on the current transformation in marketplace, churches and government in Singapore as well as the mission of Gatekeepers. He challenged Christian entrepreneurs to build Kingdom businesses.

Jason Wong who is also Chairman of Focus on the Family, Singapore: shared on “From Generation to Generation — Starting a national movement to turn hearts of fathers to their children.”

Galven Lee in his panel session shared one of his callings as a prophetic voice to see into Singapore’s past and future and to galvanise young people to seek the divine destiny of Singapore — matters relating to the book, Unfolding His Story, which he co-authored.

Thecla Loh spoke on how God has called her to FGB Gatekeepers Singapore to serve as a connector between cultures, bridging inter-generational cultural gaps through various platforms for the discipleship of their nation.

Another speaker at the forum, Mr Adiv Baruch, a renowned entrepreneur and educator in Israel, spoke about innovative technology, education, Hebrew mindset and culture of Israel, mentoring the next generation and new opportunities of business connection between Israel and China.

Some 22 leaders of Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) and the Business Men’s Fellowship (BMF) from several nations gathered in Abuja, Nigeria for the annual Full Gospel Global Forum (FGGF) Global Leadership Prayer Summit (GLPS) from January 26 to 28, 2017. The previous summit was held in Singapore in 2016.

This year, FGBMFI Nigeria was the host for the summit which was held at the Sheraton Abuja. Ifeanyi Odedo, FGBMFI National President, Nigeria, and his team welcomed the participants with memorable hospitality, complete with armed guard escorts in view of the security situation in the country. Participants hailed from countries as far as Costa Rica, St Croix-Virgin Islands, Canada, USA, Germany, UK and Singapore.

FGB Gatekeepers Singapore was represented by ‘Papa’ Khoo Oon Theam, Georgie Lee, Evelyn Lee and Thecla Loh, with ‘Papa’ Khoo being the main speaker for the opening banquet.

Leaders shared their testimonies and what they heard from the Holy Spirit the next day during prayer and fast.  Some 300 people attended the outreach banquet, where Charles Aladewolu of FGBMFI Nigeria shared a powerful testimony of his conversion from another faith, the same night.

Lunch outreach meetings held in public restaurants during the FGGF

GLPS saw a number of salvation cases.  Following the FGGF GLPS, the Singapore team conducted a Mini-MDN (Making Disciples of all Nations) School for the Nigerian leaders at the request of their fellowship’s President.

At the FGGF GLPS business meeting and Steering Committee meeting, Azike Diribe of Nigeria was re-elected the Chairman.  Ronald Radcliffe was elected the new Secretary while concurrently representing the UK and Europe region.

Daniel Gadea of Costa Rica replaces Chico Fallas as the representative for Central and South America. Other regional representatives on the Steering Committee are Steve Turnbull, UK and Europe; Phil Harrison, Bill Keith and Douglas Raine, USA; Blake Morris, Canada; and Hugo Chan, Asia.

The 2018 FGGF GLPS will be held in USA from January 25 to 27, 2018, in San Diego, with the FGBMFI/BMF, USA and Canada as host organisations. Europe will be the likely location for the 2019 FGGF GLPS.

advancing the Kingdom of God in the marketplace, cities and nations.

“The ground was already fertile to receive a fresh divine revelation when we arrived in Abuja,” said FGB Gatekeepers Singapore National President, Georgie Lee, who together with his wife Evelyn, and Thecla Loh formed the Singapore team led by ‘Papa’ Khoo. In January 2016, over 30 leaders of FGBMFI Nigeria attended the Mini-MDN School in Singapore and were deeply impacted. They then planned to send Regional Vice President, Capacity Building, Adetokunbo Uchechi Obayan, and Adebowale Olugbadebo Ademo who are responsible for the fellowship’s training  programmes, to Singapore to attend the August 2016 MDN School but were disappointed when they were unable to secure their visas on time. When they were informed of the Singapore leadership’s participation in the 2017 FGGF GLPS in Abuja, they took the opportunity to extend the invitation to FGB Gatekeepers Singapore to partner them to conduct the Mini-MDN School there.

The Nigerian leadership’s choice of the theme of the 2016 Africa convention, hosted by FGBMFI Nigeria and attended by some 22 African nations in November 2016 was already aligned with the MDN School’s message. National President Ifeanyi Odedeo said the convention theme, ‘Occupy Till I Come’, were the very words of the Lord Jesus Christ in His quest to raise Kingdom Ambassadors who will carry His power and authority in righteousness to bring down His Kingdom and establish His will over the African continent as it is in heaven — vessels of

honour that will manifest His glory in every Gate (Mountain) of human life.”

The Mini-MDN School took place right after the FGGF GLPS which was held from January 26 to 28, 2017 at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel. ‘Papa’ Khoo was the keynote speaker at the opening dinner of FGGF GLPS, rallying the audience with his message, ‘Activating Vision Intensifies’.

Following the Mini-MDN School, the Singapore team proceeded to Lagos where they were invited to speak at meetings at two FGBMFI districts in the city of about 18 million people. ‘Papa’ Khoo challenged the leaders to advance the Kingdom, at two sessions with leaders of the districts — Lagos SW6 and SW7.  At the Lagos SW7 district Prayer Summit, ‘Papa’ Khoo was given a standing ovation after his ten-minute exhortation.

The Nigerian fellowship started in the early 1980s and has since grown to about 100,000 members in 3,500 chapters. It is believed to be the largest FGB fellowship in the world. President Ifeanyi Odedeo heads a 52-man National Executive Council that gives direction to the fellowship. With its strong leadership and an excellent and well-organised

management structure, it is able to reach out to various groups of audience in the marketplace and the nation, ensuring that leadership decisions cascade down to the entire membership. Senior government, judiciary, business and community leaders as well as professionals are strongly represented in its membership.

The fellowship admits women members who form the women section called ‘Ladies of the Fellowship’. They are an integral part of the fellowship and though they do not hold office or have voting powers, they are empowered to perform many of the functions of the fellowship. FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s Director of Women Gates, Evelyn Lee said, “I am impressed by the commitment of the women coming alongside the men in fulfilling the vision of the fellowship. They participate in discussions at leadership level and are equally involved with the men in the fellowship’s activities.”

Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, has a population of about 176 million with almost half being Christians. Despite the large Christian population, the country suffers from a poor reputation as a result of widespread corruption and scams. Sam Ohuabunwa, National Coordinator, Strategic Outreaches, lamented, “Churches are growing but Godliness is declining.” Quoting Martin Luther, Azike Diribe asserted, “If the gospel does not impact the nation, it is not the gospel at all.” The MDN School’s teachings quickly gained traction as the Nigerian leadership recognised the urgency to bridge the gap between the church and the nation’s questionable culture and values.

A Call to Lifetime Disciplingby Jeff Fang

Full Gospel Business Australia (FGBA) National President, Dr George Perry, challenged leaders of the fellowship to engage in lifetime discipling.

In his welcome address at the FGBA Leadership Summit in Canberra on the theme, “Kingdom Assignment”, he said that Kingdom assignments are like running in a race. He added,

“ It is most important to finish the race. Coaches prepare people physically for the race, mentors

prepare people mentally for the race but it is disciplers who prepare people spiritually for the race. And our

race — our Kingdom Assignment — is a lifetime call, hence lifetime discipling is needed.

The FGBA Leadership Summit which was held in Canberra from May 5 to 7, 2017 was attended by 40 leaders representing the states of ACT, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland. Four generations of leaders, ranging from over 80 years old to under 30 years old were represented.

Another speaker, Pastor Jimmy Nijiino spoke of the Joseph experience — sold as a slave and anointed by God to become the Governor of Egypt. He shared also on the Apostolic and Prophetic Anointing, and that God will restore the years that the locusts have eaten.

Apostle John Alley reminded leaders of the dedicated work of apostles and what God has asked them to do. On the final day, FGBA Council Member, Stefan Horvath gave the charge and spoke on the enlargement of the seven gates, because of our Identity, Inheritance and Imperatives.

The oldest participant, Bishop Harry Westcott, a well-known pioneering evangelist of Australia, shared his excitement for the mission of Gatekeepers which he captured at the Summit. He believes that the Gatekeeper mission will unite every believer together as an arrow that seeks its mark.

The next FGBA Leadership Summit will be held in Melbourne in October 2017 on the theme, ‘Take Your Mark’.

Imperatives. Susan Vong and Jeff Fang followed up with their testimonies. Susan shared on God’s faithfulness and healing miracles in her life, while Jeff shared on the impact of Inter-generational Discipleship and how he benefited from it.

Our Western Australian hosts extended warm hospitality, and richly blessed us with memorable trips to local attractions (Swan Valley, Fremantle and Cottesloe Beach) and unforgettable local cuisine (Fremantle seafood and Alfred Kitchen’s pea soup)!

It was indeed an eye-opening experience for us all as we start to advance the Kingdom of God and pass on the legacy to the next generation.

Four Generations of Gatekeepers in Perth

So we, Your people and the sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever;

We will show forth Your praise to all generations. — Psalm 79:13

A special year-end visit to Perth, Western Australia to meet with fellow Gatekeepers and reunite with long-time friends was made all the more special by one fact — the representation of four generations of Gatekeepers!

Heading the first generation was ‘Papa’ Khoo Oon Theam, followed by Susan Vong of the second generation, and Jeff and Jasmine Fang of the third generation together with their two young boys (Jadon and David Fang) representing the fourth generation.

We were invited to a special gathering at Perth Gate and introduced to lawn bowling. Then we proceeded to a dinner fellowship. ‘Papa’ Khoo shared and encouraged all that God is doing new and anointed work in the fellowship, intensified and driven by the Vision of Demos Shakarian in 1992.

We were also invited to a special group meeting organised by Western Australian Gatekeeper, Brother Yew Tiong Hock. ‘Papa’ Khoo gave an impartation on Identity, Inheritance and

Gatekeepers David and Amy Nget, owners of Digby’s Café Phnom Penh and Mr Ong Teong Hoon, Director of Phillip Bank (Cambodia) invited Sopheak Kong to attend Making Disciples of all Nations (MDN) School in April 2016. Since then, Foo Jong Ai together with John Vong have continued to mentor Sopheak Kong, Johnny Khen and eight other Gatekeepers as the Cambodian Core Team. As a result God has raised many more leaders in Cambodia.

Through the support of FGB Gatekeepers Singapore, Foo Jong Ai was sent to Cambodia as a Cambodia Kingdom Ambassador, together with John Vong. The Singapore team has been travelling to Cambodia regularly, at least once every two months, in order to disciple the Core Team.

For seven months until January 16, 2017, three main activities were held: Mini-MDN School, Vision Casting to a group of potential Strategic Gatekeepers and Core Team Retreat.

Advancing the Kingdom: The Philippines Report

Toby Huyssen, a member of the Steering Committee said,

“ I could see a fire breaking out in the hearts and

in the eyes of many people. I know those were the ones who caught the vision. This was the spark that we needed to move

”Steering Committee member BG

Present were participants from the Seven Gates or ‘Mountains’ of the Nation — Arts and Entertainment, Business and Finance, Church and Religion, Distribution and Media, Education, Family and Community, and Government and Law. Some of the key leaders who attended the Mini-MDN School included

Sixty young Cambodian leaders participated in the Mini-MDN School held at the Phillip Bank in Phnom Penh in January 2017. They were all so inspired and touched by ‘Papa’ Khoo’s passionate teaching over three sessions: ‘God and Two Kingdoms’, ‘Kingdom Identity’, ‘Inheritance and Imperatives’, ‘Live Up!’ and ‘Gifts and Calling’.

Many of them have heard about the Kingdom of God messages before, but they never understood in such breadth and depth as ‘Papa’ Khoo had presented it through the paradigm of the Seven Gates. Among the eight Core Team members and the other 60 Cambodian Gatekeepers, 10 of them including Sopheak Kong have attended the MDN School in Singapore.

Key leaders David Nget, Amy Nget and Ong Teong Hoon, are known to many Christians and non-Christians in the business

community in Cambodia. Their presence at the Mini-MDN School, therefore, was a great testimony.

This was the first time FGB Gatekeepers Singapore had a short retreat in Cambodia with the Core Team families. Three of the eight families were able to join us, bringing our families closer to God and one another. It was a wonderful time of fellowship, refreshment and encouragement. It also allowed the wives of Gatekeepers to better understand the work of Kingdom Gatekeepers so that they could support and join their husbands for the work ahead.

We pray for the continued discipling, strengthening and supporting of Core Team members and their families by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore as they walk alongside us. We also pray that God would raise three levels of Kingdom Gatekeepers here in Cambodia — the Strategic Gatekeepers, the marketplace Gatekeepers and the Young Gatekeepers.

Commented FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s Emeritus President ‘Papa’ Khoo Oon Theam. He was encouraged by the enthusiasm of some 90 participants, mostly leaders in various fields from across the Filipino society who packed the ballroom of Makati Sports Club in Manila to attend the mini Making Disciples of all Nations (MDN) School, organised by a local Steering Committee and conducted by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore on March 4, 2017. The Filipino leaders were encouraged to advance God’s Kingdom along the 4 ‘I’s (Inter-denominational, International, Inter-generational, Integrational) platform.

“Without doubt, the message of the gospel of the Kingdom came through

clearly and people were challenged to advance the Kingdom in their nation and transform the nation’s culture. The resounding message is to watch and pray over the Seven Gates,” commented Omy Romero, CEO and Principal Consultant of OTi Philippines, and a member of the Steering Committee.

Dr Andrew Liuson, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of well known property developer, Cityland, said that as a participant, he caught the key messages on transformation and would like to share these messages with other believers.

leading lawyer, Joe P Villanueva, and University President, Dr Ellen E Presnedi who heads the university, PLMUN.

To build on what had been achieved at the one-day Mini-MDN School, the leaders decided to convene monthly meetings. The local Steering Committee comprising Omy Romero, BG Hernandez, Toby Huyssen, Roy Carandang and Mario Frez will now take on a more permanent role to organise the monthly meetings and conduct the discipleship programme.

Besides ‘Papa’ Khoo who conducted the one day Mini-MDN School, the Singapore team included Jason Wong, FGB Gatekeepers Adviser and Chairman of Focus on the Family, Pastor Don Wong, a Strategic Gatekeeper and founder of New Charis Mission, and Georgie Lee, FGB Gatekeepers Singapore National President. Other team members were Evelyn Lee, Susan Vong, Caroline Wong, Christine Chan, Nancy Yap and Sim Swee How.

Prior to the Mini-MDN School, the team hosted a Family Forum which was attended by over 70 participants. Held on the afternoon of March 2, 2017 at the Makati Sports Club, the forum saw Jason Wong and Pastor Don Wong sharing their testimonies passionately on how God used them to help encourage fathering

and promote strong families in Singapore. Pastor Don Wong also shared on how his team was able to bring transformation

to the lives of ex-offenders and drug addicts. Not only were their lives transformed, they are now

contributing back to society by helping the elderly and counselling prisoners, drug

addicts and youth-at-risk.

Another speaker at the forum, Jose Antonio R Hernandez, Assistant Secretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Social Welfare and Development of the Republic of the Philippines, challenged

Filipinos to use their giftings and talents they have to help solve the Nation’s

problems.

‘Papa’ Khoo, Jason Wong, Don Wong, and Georgie Lee also shared at the monthly Christian

Executive Lunch meeting for men at the Circles Restaurant at Shangri-la Hotel, Makati, on March 2, 2017. Held concurrently with the Men’s Lunch meeting was the inaugural Ladies Lunch meeting in another function room at the Shangri-la Hotel. Evelyn Lee and Susan Vong shared on God’s calling for Women and FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s Vision and Mission.

In 2016, FGB Gatekeepers Singapore also conducted a Mini-MDN School in the Philippines, but with a focus on Young Gatekeepers. Those who attended the 2016 Mini-MDN School as well as the Luminocity event in Singapore in November 2016, shared powerful testimonies of how they were impacted by the two events.

Nearly a year has passed since the inaugural Women Gatekeepers kicked off in Shanghai. Since then, the fellowship has progressed steadily with regular monthly meetings. At the start, the group met at a restaurant in the city centre, but has since relocated to a Christian-owned restaurant near the city, situated above a metro station.

The meetings would typically start with fellowship and testimonies, before entering into a time of worship after dinner. This would be followed by a Word Theme before concluding in prayer and ministry. Averaging 10 to 15 ladies at each meeting, the women group is mostly made up of marketplace women, with a mix of expatriates

from the various international fellowships. However, a recent influx of local Christian women from the local churches led to the

establishment of a bilingual Women Gatekeepers group in a new location in the Hongqiao area. Marie Lucie heads the existing Central group, with two other core members, while the newly set up bilingual fellowship group in Hongqiao will be headed by Magdelene Fu with Jasmine and Sarah. The bilingual group will be launched in the second half of 2017. There are also plans to start a new group in Pudong when suitable leaders are available.

Shanghai BMF Gatekeepers plan to hold a Min-Making Disciples of all Nations (MDN) School series in Shanghai soon. It is aiming to be able to conduct the MDN School in both English and Mandarin with its own trainers as soon as they are equipped to do so in order to build up potential local leaders. May the fellowship go forth and multiply!

A Thousand Kingdom Familiesby James Lee

God Puts Us in Families

From the beginning, God created man and woman and established the family unit. The family is of paramount importance in the heart of God. In Ephesians 3:15, every family in heaven and on earth derives its name from the Father. Our families are from God; God resides in and is glorified through our families. Everyone of us has a family; therefore, every Gatekeeper needs to guard his or her family. We pray that the Lord will bless us with 1,000 Kingdom Families who belong to God.

When King David wanted to build the Lord’s temple, God established the house of David, and it pleased the Lord to bless the house of David.

God Cares for Our Families

The Bible clearly predicts the state of families in the Last Days. People, including believers, will become more and more self-centred, taking care of their self-interests.

Guarding the Family Gate; Restoring Family Altars

We are saved by grace, called to be the Lord’s disciples, and to become ‘Gatekeepers’. Firstly, we have to guard the “Family Gate”. We need to respond to God’s call, and establish 1,000 Kingdom Families in our city. We have to restore the family altar and establish Kingdom values in our families, to restore and live out the original image of God when He first created us.

We see that the plan of God in the Last Days is to send His servants to help families, and restore family relationships.

We believe that the seven pillars are:1. Family2. Finance3. Fitness4. Friend5. Fun6. Faith7. Fulfilment

Every pillar rests on the foundation of three core values — Truthfulness, Honour, Gratitude — and they collectively testify of a Kingdom Family. We want to see the 1,000 Kingdom Families shine like a bright light in this time and age, demonstrating the truth in living, from city to city, bringing glory to our Heavenly Father.

The Responsibilities of a “Kingdom Family”

1. Proclaim our identity: our family belongs to the Kingdom of Lord Jesus

2. Restore the Family Altar3. Live out Kingdom values in our family4. Live out the original image of God

when He first created us

The Assignment of Every “Kingdom Family”

1. Pray for one another’s Life, daily Living and Livelihood

2. Pray for our city, societal issues, security, economy and spiritual climate

3. Bless our country and let the light of Lord Jesus shine

4. Pray for peace in Jerusalem

GATEKEEPERS FEATURES

FGB Gatekeepers Singapore has set a goal of raising 1,000 Kingdom families and 1,000 Kingdom businesses over the next few years. This is one of the objectives of the establishment of Kingdom Family Gate and the Kingdom Business Gate.

The gates form an integral part of the fellowship’s discipleship process to raise Gatekeepers to advance the Kingdom of God. Although the strategy is to cover all Seven Gates, the leadership decided to prioritise resources to initially focus on

three gates — Family, Business and the Arts and Media.

The Kingdom Family Gate currently conducts the 7’F’ programme (Family, Finance, Fitness, Friend, Fun, Faith, Fulfilment), led and developed by FGB Board member, James Lee.

There are currently two Kingdom Business Gates, and the groups meet monthly. Leading the two gates are Philip Ng, CEO of Far East Organization, Ong Ai Boon, Director of The Association of Banks in Singapore and Jeffrey Goh, CEO of NETS.

Raising a Thousand Kingdom Families and Kingdom Businesses

The Business Gate meetings seek to disciple business owners and employees to practise Kingdom values and principles in the conduct of their business. Participants engage in a dialogue to understand biblical truths and share their testimonies and experiences in application of these truths. One of the key principles taught is the understanding that we are stewards and not merely owners of our businesses.

The Kingdom Arts and Media Gate, led by Nicholas Khoo, brings together Christian artists and media executives. This is an area where the anti-Christ spirit is actively involved in swaying peoples and nations to their agenda through their creative art and works. The Gate meetings seek to disciple Christians in this area, bringing Kingdom values to prevail in this industry.

Between November 3 to 5, 2016, The Pavilion@Far East Square, was abuzz with activities. Leaders from the millennial generation gathered for the inaugural LuminoCity 2016 organised by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore.

Participants, numbering 212 in all and hailing from 11 countries (Australia, Cambodia, China, Finland, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore) were treated to a rich programme. A lineup of distinguished speakers representing both the young and old from different fields shared with openness their testimonies, struggles and journeys in an increasingly challenging world where they live and work.

Among the speakers were Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-Founder of Grab; Philip Ng, CEO, Far East Organization; Stephen Lam, former Chief Secretary, Hong Kong SAR Government; Lynette Leong-Childress, CEO, CapitaLand Commercial Trust Management Ltd; Tan Chin Hwee, CEO, Asia Pacific, Trafigura Group; Gregory Vijayendran, Partner, Rajah & Tann and

President of The Law Society; and Jason Wong, Chairman, Focus on

the Family.

LuminoCity 2016 was a call to young

professionals, aged under-40, across

Asia Pacific, to reflect the

character of Christ in

their Life, Living and Livelihood.

The forum was formatted to open

up Inter-generational dialogue with

strategically placed Kingdom Ambassadors who have walked the path. Designed also as a platform for equipping the millennial generation to engage and transform culture in cities across our region, it hoped to challenge them to help chart the destiny of Nations.

In the lively panel discussions that followed, participants captured valuable nuggets on how to move from a day-to-day ‘survival’ mode in the workplace to becoming a change agent wherever God has placed them, and to infuse God’s Kingdom Culture within Families, Organisations and Nations.

In the panel session ‘Kingdom Business — To Do Good Business and Doing Good in Business’, Philip Ng shared his personal faith journey of how he has evolved from a ‘compartmentalised’ Christian to

one who integrates his personal faith to the public marketplace. This led him to declare Far East Organisation

as a Christian enterprise run by Kingdom principles.

Inspired by Luke 18:19 which declares that

only God is truly good, he resolved to “do good business, and do good in business” so as to point others to the goodness of Christ.

Staying competitive and

building a sustainable employee-friendly business

can be a challenge. Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-founder of Grab, offered his rule of thumb on doing good in business and doing good business:

In the panel session ‘Lifestyle Kingdom — Fast Cash, Fast Crash: Perspectives on Financial Stewardship’, panelist Ong Ai Boon regaled the audience with her animated and humorous testimony of transforming from a peremptory person to one who has been mellowed by God, and who approaches life with a childlike faith. God used a family situation to wean her off the dependency on money as she

212participants from 11 countries

(Australia, Cambodia, China, Finland, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia,

Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore)

learnt to put God first in everything and trust in Him to supply her needs.

Another highlight was a talk by Stephen Lam, former Chief Secretary, Hong Kong SAR Government, who spoke on the topic ‘How Millennial Christians Can Pursue Reforms in Nations?’ Stephen expounded on two key chapters in Hong Kong’s history where he played a central role to influence constitutional reforms in the government.

Though the majority of the participants were under 40 years of age, there were seniors who attended the event to better equip themselves on inter-generational discipleship.

The forum theme and name, “LuminoCity”, was inspired by Isaiah 60:1— “Arise and Shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.”

Jeff Fang, a Gatekeeper from Australia felt that LuminoCity 2016 was an eye-opening experience for him, and he had learnt and gleaned much from the wisdom and insights of the panelists, the movers and shakers and trendsetters for their industries.

BG Hernandez of the Philippines shared that the revelation he caught at LuminoCity 2016 was the importance of advancing God’s Kingdom in Business, Education, Government, Church and all pillars of society.

Another Gatekeeper and panel moderator, Chong Yue-En, felt that LuminoCity 2016 had given him a unique opportunity to explore with his panelists with candour on a taboo subject in the church —the topic of sex, sexual sins and sexual weakness.

Revival requires willing and surrendered vessels, purity of heart and readiness to be Kingdom Ambassadors. The enthusiastic response at the forum augured well for the coming global revival. Listening to these dynamic and frank panel sharings have broadened my perspective and nuanced my understanding of some very real and common struggles we all have pertaining to living out a victorious testimony for Christ in the marketplace. It has certainly whetted my appetite for more, and I look forward to the next edition of LuminoCity 2017!

Addressing the millennial Christians, Stephen Lam exhorted future leaders to have the courage and

Growing from strength to strength, the Making Disciples of all Nations (MDN) School continues to attract interest from believers worldwide. To date, more than 500 believers from over 22 nations have attended the six-day programme. In 2016, a total of 103 participants attended the twice yearly school intakes at Changi Cove Singapore.

Currently, there are two intakes in a year, usually in April and August of each year instead of three previously. Participants enjoy more than 50 percent subsidy by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore, paying only SGD700 per person for accommodation and all meals.

The Bible instructs us to ‘Do and Teach’, and the MDN School is designed to help believers revisit their understanding of the gospel of the Kingdom and advance the Kingdom through discipleship of individual believers and the Nations.

Giving his feedback on the school, Tomas Sandell from Finland and founder of European Coalition for Israel (ECI) said, “It has been a game-changer in my life, really amazing. I give the course a 10!”

Revisiting the Gospel of the KingdomBG Hernandez, Gatekeepers Philippines, shared, “MDN

School helped to clearly define the Gospel of the Kingdom and brought revelation, wisdom, knowledge and understanding on each of the process.”

Dr George Manu from Ghana heartily concurred. He remarked, “It has equipped (me) with knowledge and a renewed sense of purpose. It has given me the tools and introduced me to my spiritual family supporting me in the Great Commission. God has also used the School to bless and empower me.”

For David Cole, Chairman of the University of the Nations Board of Regents, YWAM, what left its deepest mark was the clarity of the message. He elaborated, “I love the clear foundation laid for everyone involved in extending God’s kingdom in the marketplace. The biblical kingdom mandate is explained, cutting through a lot of the confusion and woolly thinking in the Church today.”

Led by Emeritus President Khoo Oon Theam, the content of the School evolves constantly as the Lord imparts fresh revela-tions. The School made its debut in 2012, and has conducted 12 sessions to date. In 2017, the first camp was held from April 6 to 11. The upcoming intake will be from August 17 to 22, 2017.

MDN SCHOOL REPORTWomen Gatekeepers and their guests were enthralled by two moving testimonies given by two prominent Singapore female leaders at the FGB Women Gatekeepers’ ‘Hearts on Fire’ meetings held in 2016. The Leaders featured were Ms Lim Soo Hoon, a senior civil servant, and Dr Thio Su Mien, a well-known senior lawyer.

Soo Hoon, who has served in the civil service for more than 30 years, spoke powerfully on Kingdom Life, Living and Livelihood. She spoke of her pursuit of excellence in the marketplace with openness.

Soo Hoon stressed the importance for believers in the current climate to make a stand for Christ-like values and behaviour to reflect the leadership of Jesus wherever God has placed them at work, family and other social and community settings.

She was very authentic about her life journey as she outlined the practical struggles in living out her Christian faith as God showed and guided her to

place Him above her family and career. During the Q&A session, she reminded the audience to trust God and to remain objective and credible, and commit to Him in prayer whatever that cannot be done by ourselves. Soo Hoon concluded with the observation that love ultimately enabled her to do all that she had spoken about.

Her authenticity and sincerity touched the hearts of the audience, especially the Young Gatekeepers. They were also deeply encouraged by her perspective on the public service, especially on managing her Christian faith while working in a secular environment.

Brenda Tan, a Young Gatekeeper, remarked,

Her life experiences clearly communicated to the audience that God will establish a uniquely different pattern for each person at each point of time.

Audrey Quay, another Young Gatekeeper added, “She talked about how she and her colleagues formed the prayer group, how the group found the right venue, and how God used the loss

of a venue to reveal to them a change in direction. She is constantly reliant on the guidance of the Spirit. That means we really have to give up our own spirit of independence and self-taught ideas (the flesh) to faithfully carry out what God has called us to be and to do.”

Dr Thio Su Mien’s clarion call for believers to arise and walk in the calling of the Lord came with a sense of urgency. “We are living in dangerous and strategic times and many things are happening fast and sudden. Those who have ears to hear will hear the need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, keep in step with the Spirit and to discern the will of God,” said Dr Thio, the former Law Dean at the National University of Singapore, as well as Judge and Senior Vice President at the World Bank Administrative Tribunal.

She gave practical examples of how as Christians, believers should be aware of what is happening in the world and how they can claim the testimonies of Jesus in the Bible for themselves. “The testimony

It was about a week after Making Disciples of all Nations (MDN) School. The Lord had begun a healing journey during MDN School for me to step out and step up to the role that He has carved out for me. Before MDN School, I was fearful, unsure, feeling unworthy of being used by The Lord. I was also struggling with the plans that He has for me because of those fears. During MDN School, The Lord

revealed to me the love He has for my family, as well as His desire to heal the hurts that my family has caused me. This He did by showing me that they (my family) are His precious children whom He wants to save. Because of that, I could forgive them and experienced a huge release.

of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. We need to declare the Words and Works of Jesus into our spheres of influence,” she said. On the family front, Dr Thio shared that she and her husband just simply prayed the Aaronic blessing (Numbers 6:24-25) over their children.

In response, Caroline Wong, a Gatekeeper shared, “This is really great for all mothers to understand that God alone is the supreme power to make our children great.”

Dr Thio also shared a testimony of how she lived out the Kingdom Culture in a secular business world.

“When we really start to live a righteous Christian life, there is no guarantee that we will win and prosper. People might start to hate you and things start to become difficult. If this is the cost of submitting to God’s will, are we willing? Why should I give the credit to a business partner who did not put in as much effort? Can I be

generous to a partner and office staff as how God would be generous to me? Although I felt very unwilling and even argued and complained to God, I finally chose to submit to the heart that God would rather have than my own,” she explained.

Elaine Yu, a Gatekeeper who was greatly impacted by the testimony, shared, “When Dr Thio cited the verse in Ezekiel 37:26, I was assured by God’s word: ‘A new heart also I will give you, and a new spirit will I put within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and I will give you a heart of flesh’. All we need to do is to choose to obey. Isn’t it comforting to know how sovereign our God is? If we are

willing to pay the cost of following Him, He will orchestrate the best for

our lives to glorify His own Name!”

Dr Thio’s insightful and powerful sharing ignited the hearts of Gatekeepers, enlightening them that as a People of Destiny, God

has given each one an assignment in

Jesus Christ before the foundation of the

world. (Ephesians 1:4) The assignment requires a believer

to be at the marketplace of the Seven Gates of our nation.

The FGB Women Gatekeepers’ ‘Hearts on Fire’ series is a platform for women Strategic Gatekeepers to share and disciple Gatekeepers, especially the younger generation.

During the soaking session, The Lord was re-emphasising that He has identified someone for me (a prayer that surfaced about two years ago, when I first came to The Lord after a bad relationship) who will take care of me. I remember struggling with this revelation because there’s a part of me that still does not believe it is possible, not when my own dad and just about every guy I knew (except for the gay ones who became my close friends) had hurt me or taken advantage of me in some way. Due to the disbelief, I was whining to God “I don’t need this person!!!”

So it was me wrestling with God, just like Jacob did. And God, kind, gentle, yet firm asked me, “Do you trust me? Do you trust my heart?” and after throwing a huge tantrum (fighting for at least half the session) I finally told God: “Lord, I trust in You. I know your plans are the best for me and that you will fight for me. And as long as I put my faith in You, You’ll take care of me.”

It was really difficult, and at the end, I was exhausted but felt a deep sense of peace. Perhaps there can never be a ‘perfect’ relationship after all, when you strive for it in human terms. In fact, the one thing that really got to me about relationships is how people end up demanding and taking advantage of one another by flaunting their superiority, real or imagined, making crazy demands of each other etc. Without an intermediary such as a counsellor or some greater call to work towards, a relationship can so easily descend into a selfish need to possess the other (which I’m afraid of doing, more than I’m afraid of someone doing that to me). God really broke through that to say that a relationship with another is ultimately to bring me CLOSER to Him, and because He loves me, He will pick the right one for me. Somebody who loves God more than anything else in the world. So a ‘perfect’ relationship is possible, with God at the centre.

When sharing time came, The Lord confirmed what He spoke to me about through Renette, who shared the verse “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). This verse was what The Lord gave me right after MDN School to comfort me as the healing process had been a really rough—I had to face squarely all those things that I have tried desperately, for the last 24 years, to bury. But with God’s love and presence, everything has changed. I can now look back and surrender it all into the hands of our loving God.

“ My soaking experience on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 was unlike any other I have had. Typically,

soaking is a calming, restful, wondrous experience for me, with lots of affirmation of The Lord’s love

and majesty in images and words. This time round, it was a continuation of the painful confrontation

of my childhood as well as past hurts from relationships friendships.

WHEN WE REALLY START TO LIVE A RIGHTEOUS CHRISTIAN LIFE, THERE IS NO

GUARANTEE THAT WE WILL WIN AND PROSPER. PEOPLE MIGHT

START TO HATE YOU AND THINGS START TO BECOME DIFFICULT.

IF THIS IS THE COST OF SUBMITTING TO GOD’S WILL,

ARE WE WILLING?... — Dr Thio Su Mien,

a well-known senior lawyer.

“ During the soaking session, the Lord continued the healing process by dealing with my fear of

relationships. Deep inside, I’ve always believed in love, romance and wanted someone who would care for me — care for my heart that is — and

towards whom I can reciprocate. But because of what happened with my parents, who were really young when they had me and were struggling to make ends meet, I started to lock my heart up. In fact, I remember telling myself that I would build

a wall so high and thick around my heart, like a castle, and throw away the key so nobody could

find it, and find me.”

YGK ACTSSEEKING THE DESTINY OF NATIONS

Have you ever considered how your destiny is tied to that of your country?

As Christians, perhaps sometimes we are too inward-looking regarding our faith. If we are honest, too often we are thinking to ourselves: How do I ask God to bless me with a good career, a nice family, so that I can just be the ‘good Christian’ and serve in church?

However, as Sons and Daughters of the most High God, Kingdom Ambassadors and Gatekeepers discipled to discern His purposes for us in this place we call home, we seek more.

Lau Peet Meng, Deputy Commissioner of the Singapore Police Force, kicked off

the first YGK ACTS for 2016. He shared about how he came to see God’s purpose in placing him in his police vocation to uphold God’s Kingdom justice and mercy in the land. Truly, our career is our calling, our work is our worship.

Georgie Lee, the National President of FGB Gatekeepers Singapore, also spoke at the YGK ACTS discipleship platform. He shared about how he overcame his greatest career challenge — the 1980s Pan Electric financial crisis. By not losing faith, and trusting the Lord and through fasting and praying with his family, God

NEW WINESKINS, NEW WINE

YGK THE DINNER UNDERGOES REVAMP!by Thecla Loh

To contain the new wine or revelation, Jesus counselled that new wineskins are best used. In like spirit, YGK The Dinner was revamped and reintroduced as a lead-up to the inaugural LuminoCity 2016. A new format of intergenerational panels was unveiled with Q&A segments to facilitate greater discussion.

At the first revamped YGK The Dinner, we tackled the issue of money and the common Chinese ‘lie’ — “富不过三代” (Wealth doesn’t last past the third generation). The panel discussion was moderated by YGK, Thecla Loh. Father-and-son team, Georgie and Galven Lee, together with Andy Wong, financial advisor, took to the floor to share their perspectives on wealth management and Kingdom Stewardship.

This was followed by a second YGK Dinner on July 27, 2016 on the contentious topic of Brexit, with sharings by Jehu Chan and Chan Kok Peng, Head, Economics Research and Strategy, Great Eastern Life.

As sons of Issachar and Kingdom ambassadors, we need to know the ‘Present Times’, ‘Present Trends’ and ‘Present Truth’ in the world we live in. The Dinner’s new format was well-received by young professionals who were hungry and curious to understand the fast changing world that they live in, with a Kingdom and Spiritual perspective. May we continue to sharpen our discernment as we navigate an increasingly challenging landscape and shine as children of light.

not only restored his fortunes but also linked his career development with the economic development of Singapore, then a new nation.

This was followed by the sharing of Kris Childress, a seasoned YGK discipler who shared his journey in God all the way to Singapore. God arranged his marriage to a Singaporean lady, Lynette Leong-Childress. Since then, Kris has seen how God has led and mightily used him in discipling Young Gatekeepers to know their place in the Kingdom of God. He also testified to how their ‘Life’, ‘Living’ and ‘Livelihood’ have direct correlation to God’s plans for the Nations.

Author Landa Cope Shares about God and Political Justice

This is the overarching narrative of Landa Cope’s latest book, God and Political Justice: A Study of Civil Governance From Genesis to Revelation.

Landa Cope is the founding International Dean of the College of Communication for Youth With A Mission’s University of the Nations. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Education and a Master’s degree in Humanities and International Studies. Her public speaking and work in missions have taken her to more than 110 nations. She is also the author of Clearly Communicating Christ, a book about Jesus-style communication and The Old Testament Template.

Landa, who was visiting Singapore in connection with the launch of her latest book, spoke at two FGB Gatekeepers Singapore meetings. The first meeting held at The Pavilion@Far East Square on July 11, 2016 was a forum where Landa shared her message, followed by a panel discussion by David Pong, a Young Gatekeeper and entrepreneur; Gregory Vijayendran, President of the Singapore Academy of Law and Chairman of the Lawyers Christian Fellowship; and Dr Chew Wee of the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences.

She also addressed senior leaders in Government, Business, Community and Media at a dinner meeting organised by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore at the Oasia Hotel Novena, on July 12, 2016.

“ As God’s people we are called into civil governance for the glory of God and the good of the people. Our goal is not to perfect the world or nation but to offer

God’s perspective, a better way, and allow society a choice…

As citizens… of a nation, our objective is to win our nation to the highest level of

justice it will accept... We have influence, but we are not in control. We are not

defending God’s Kingdom; His Kingdom is already established. We are not here to “bring back the King”; the King is already

coming. We are Ambassadors of light, helping to dispel the darkness.

We are salt, preserving and changing the flavour of our communities’ choices…

Mention gaming, and some Christian parents will squirm with horror. Ignorance or a spiritual no-no? Yu-Kai Chou, gamification guru and a publicly professed Christian, shared with Gatekeepers and their friends his life journey and his love affair with gamification at a forum organised by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s Arts and Media Circle on November 12, 2016.

Initially a skeptic who used to challenge and make fun of Christians, Yu-Kai wrote in his website: “You may have noticed, I’ve been pretty open about my Christian faith on my website and social profiles.”

His openness in declaring his faith affected his business. “Publicly sharing about my Christian faith has also denied me some opportunities. There have been companies that

decided not to have a partnership with my website because the author of the site states that he is a follower of Christ,” he added.

Today, Yu-Kai is an entrepreneur, speaker, and gamification pioneer. But earlier in life, he had the epiphany that while games had the power to delight and engage the mind, they were not productive and only resulted in emotional gains. Thus he embarked on a passionate quest to discover how to simultaneously make games more productive, and life more fun. Since then, he has created a variety of game-based technology start-ups.

In 2012, Yu-Kai stepped down as CEO of his startup and published his gamification framework

Octalysis, which has since been translated into nine languages. Gamification, he explains, has the potential to make the world a better, more sustainable place to live in, and work more fun.

In 2015, he was rated #1 among the “Gamification Gurus Power 100” by RISE, and was also awarded “Gamification Guru of the Year Award” for 2014 and 2015 by the World Gamification Congress based in Europe. He is now a full-time consultant and speaker on gamification.

On March 23, 2016, 97 Gatekeepers were gathered for the Annual General Meeting held at The Pavilion @ Far East Square. After a time of Praise and Worship, retired civil servant and former PUB Chairman Tan Gee Paw gave the exhortation for the evening.

Gee Paw shared his reflections for FGB Gatekeepers Singapore. Referring to Acts 13, he observed that while the city of Antioch was a hive of activity with people worshipping and fasting, the Holy Spirit intervened to set apart Paul and Barnabas for the work that God had called them. While there was much work in Antioch, the vision of Antioch alone is too small. It has to reach out to all the surrounding nations.

Gee Paw spoke of the three ‘C’s of Calling, Consecration and Commissioning. Paul’s ‘consecration’ was in the shipwreck, where he declared unwaveringly of the God “to whom I belong and whom I serve”. Gee Paw concluded with the challenge for the FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s vision to be global, underpinned by the three ‘C’s. As this is the work of God, it would last for successive generations to come.

In the outgoing President’s Address, Khoo Oon Theam shared how in 2003, he was called back to FGB to do a ”new work, quick work, and anointed work”. Twelve years on, there is a shift in

FGB from the Vision of 1952 to the 1992 Vision Intensifies, where we see changes from ‘Chapters’ to ‘Gates’, ‘Members’ to ‘Gatekeepers’ ‘Full Gospel’ to ‘Kingdom Gospel’. The fellowship has since included women and young people and shifted the focus to making disciples for the work of the Kingdom of God, not just winning souls.

In conclusion, ‘Papa’ Khoo quoted Isaiah 60:22, “A little one shall be a thousand. And a small one, a strong nation. I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time”, and exhorted all to “press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).

Khoo Oon Theam would be appointed as the Emeritus President.

In his address, incoming National President, Georgie Lee, paid tribute to ‘Papa’ Khoo for his years of service in FGB. Georgie’s journey with ‘Papa’ Khoo started since 1969, when the latter was a lecturer at the then University of Singapore. ‘Papa’ Khoo founded FGB Singapore in 1975 and was President from 1979 to 1985, until he was called to be involved with FGB internationally. In 2003, he felt called to return to “re-dig the wells” and take the fellowship to new levels and dimensions. Georgie once again joined hands with ‘Papa’ Khoo, and in the ensuing years, witnessed the shift from the season of the charismatic era to the Kingdom era. Georgie felt honoured to have his whole family being mentored by ‘Papa’ Khoo all these years.

On behalf of FGB Gatekeepers Singapore, Georgie presented a memento of appreciation to ‘Papa’ Khoo, a candle holder bearing 12 candles representing the apostles. ‘Papa’ Khoo was invited on stage to light the 12 candles while the song “Glory to Jesus” was sung. Georgie mentioned that while the appointment of the President is for one year, ‘Papa’ Khoo’s appointment as the Emeritus President is for life.

IN HIS TIME: FORMER SINGAPORE MINISTER LUI TUCK YEW SHARES “MY STORY”

Former Singapore cabinet minister and Chief of Navy, the Maritime and Port Authority and the Housing and Development Board, Lui Tuck Yew laid bare his life story of how God led him to become a believer and saw him through a challenging career in the civil service.

He was speaking before an office crowd of 360 people who were gathered at lunchtime at The Pavilion@Far East Square for the My Story outreach event. The event was organised by FGB Gatekeepers Singapore in partnership with Faith@Work on March 28, 2016.

Though he did not shine initially at

school in his early years, the Lord later blessed him with a Singapore Armed Forces scholarship to study science at Cambridge U niversity.

Citing an example of how God answered prayer in His own time and way, Lui shared that during his tenure as Transport Minister when there was a train breakdown, he prayed that there would be an improvement in the statistical indicators of train performance. But God chose to answer his prayer through a survey where commuters expressed their general satisfaction with their commuting experience.

Many were touched by his sharing and responded to the altar call.

L-R: Jehu Chan, Georgie Lee and Former Singapore Minister Lui Tuck Yew

These words aptly sum up the encounter of well-known Malaysian property developer, Tan Sri Dato (Dr) Chan Ah Chye.

Tan Sri Chan shared his testimony to a full house of more than 250 guests at FGB Gatekeepers Singapore’s banquet on July 26, 2016 at the Rendezvous Hotel. The guests were enthralled by his blow-by-blow account of the crisis faced by Talam Transform Bhd, his public-listed (Bursa Malaysia) company. The company was sinking under the weight of a 3.5 billion Ringgit debt and 13,000 houses sold but yet to be constructed.

Presenting his story in a unique way: every episode he retold was accompanied by a song sung by his company’s choir. The lyrics expressed his feelings and thoughts gushing through his mind as he reflected on the crisis. The lyrics were written by him and set to the tunes of popular yesteryear songs.

A staunch idol worshipper then, he shared that in the midst of his crisis, he took a cruise to Europe but there was no joy in his heart as the crisis continued to weigh heavily on him. Then, as part of the tour, he and his wife visited St Isaac Cathedral in St Petersburg. There, in the cathedral, he was consumed by a sense of peace that transcended all understanding, and all thoughts of his crisis were suddenly lifted up from him. He was basking in the presence of God and was comforted by the assurance that God will see him through the crisis.

With that encounter, he and his wife accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, Lord and Master. Thus, began their journey with God, obeying His word and seeking Him for solutions, which eventually led him to a resolution of the financial crisis that saw the company’s debt whittled down to a small manageable amount and the 13,000 houses completed.
