Why ZIP System R-Sheathing?

Discover ZIP System R-Sheathing and Tape. It’s a one-of-a-kind wood structural panel, WRB, air barrier and exterior insulation layer all in one system. Plus it installs faster than a layered system. For a tighter more durable house that saves builder’s time and homeowner’s money, get ZIP System R-Sheathing.

Structural Integrity

Moisture Management

Airflow Control

Thermal Efficiency

Structure and safety are always the top priority.

Moisture is the most immediate threat to a structure.

Energy efficiency is enhanced with added insulation.

Air movement must be controlled for insulation to work properly.

Our Advantage

The unique design of

ZIP System R Sheathing provides the

added strength of engineered wood and a

solid, nailable surface.

Structural Integrity

Wood structural panel provides structural integrity and durability. • 7/16" engineered PS-2 wood panel provides superior structural integrity • Code-recognized (ICC-ES ESR-3373) structural bracing panel designed to resist:

• Transverse loading • Lateral loading (racking)

• Nailable wood base for trim and accessories • Provides security against home intrusion

Structural Integrity

Walls must resist loads from – wind and seismic events

Wind Loading Seismic Loading

Page 8: The fastest way to the perfect energy-efficient home

Our Advantage

ZIP System R Sheathing

provides greater

structural integrity than

foam-only wall systems.

Structural Integrity

Structural problems can be expensive… and potentially dangerous.

Page 9: The fastest way to the perfect energy-efficient home

Our Advantage

Built-in protective

barrier protects the entire

panel surface from moisture

during construction

and for the life of the building.

Moisture Control (bulk water)

Moisture must be controlled to construct a durable structure. • What the code says: “…water resistive barrier shall be applied over studs or sheathing of all exterior walls.” • What Energy Star says: “…fully sealed continuous drainage plane behind exterior cladding.”

Page 10: The fastest way to the perfect energy-efficient home

Moisture Control (water vapor)

PERMEANCE R-Sheathing is a multi-layered product with a collective permeance of approximately 1 perm. This level is consistent with other foam systems. Such systems (vapor retarders) require that the majority of drying to be directed to the interior of the structure. Care must be taken to provide proper air conditioning and ventilation within the structure. It is also recommended that space for natural ventilation is provided behind exterior cladding to enhance drying potential of the engineered wood substrate to the outside.

ZIP System overlay (12-16 perms)

7/16” OSB substrate (2-3 perms)

1” Polyisocyanurate (1.5 – 2 perms)

Moisture Control

DEW POINT Condensation occurs when water vapor in the air contacts a surface that is colder than the dew point.

Moisture Control

DEW POINT The addition of continuous exterior insulation creates a thermal break between inside and outside temperatures, essentially warming the wall cavity and reducing the risk of condensation within the walls.

Our Advantage

ISO foam panels provide the best

compressive strength and

highest R-value per inch.

Thermal Control

Why we chose polyiso foam panels…

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)

• Lowest average R-value (R-4 per inch) • Absorbs water • Fragile • Semipermeable (vapor retarder)

• Mid level R-Value (R-5 per inch) • Stronger than EPS •Semipermeable (vapor retarder)

Polyisocyanurate (ISO)

• Highest aged R-value (R-6 per inch) • Strongest foam option • Durability enhanced by facer (fiberglass face on internal

side of R-Sheathing) • Semipermeable (vapor retarder)
