REFLECTION ~ AJ Barrows, Coordinator Family & Youth Ministry Living in this world today it is hard to feel like we are talking with Jesus when we pray. Nowadays if we want to talk to someone we can call, Facetime, Zoom, text, Facebook Message, WhatsApp, email, Snapchat, and honestly many more options that I don’t even know about. To the best of my knowledge, God doesn’t have a phone for us to reach him at. With us in this age of instant and direct communication ,praying can feel ineffective, pointless, or even discouraging. Yet we see in the readings today, they teach us how we can actually talk, and not just talk but be heard by Christ. In Mark 10:47 a blind man cries out for Jesus, “Son of David, have pity on me.” This moment he shows us that when we want to start talking with Je- sus, we must speak from the heart to dig down deep and be honest. It is so hard to do that sometimes because then we have to face what is actually going on with our lives, minds, and hearts. Cry out though, push past that voice telling you to keep quiet, share with Jesus your struggles, worries, and sorrows cry out to Him. God can’t bless whom we pretend to be. A good parent cannot ignore the cries of their child. “Jesus stopped and said, 'Call him here.' So they called the blind man over.” (Mark 10:49). As soon as this man cried from his heart Jesus stopped everything and invited him to come close. When we cry out from our hearts honestly, Christ will always invite us to come close to Him. I promise you that He always invites us to come close in the best of times and the worst. All we have to do is say “yes” and come close to Jesus and His transforming love. Lastly, Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Mark 10:51). There is no way that Jesus didn’t already know what this man needed and wanted. Still, Jesus the King of the Universe humbles himself by asking “What do you want me to do for you?” This shows that Jesus loves and respects us by asking. All we have to do is ask. Praying for the Vision: Reflect on this verse

“As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will

make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” Matthew 4:18-20

Diocese of London: Being a Mission-Oriented Church that Forms Disciples of Jesus

Reflection continued...

This is not an invitation to treat Christ like Santa by giving Him a laundry list of wants. It is a time to ask for the things that will make us the best version of ourselves. Things that won’t just lead us to momentary happiness but things that will bring life and joy into our lives. Sometimes that is super hard because we can’t always know what we need to ask for. In those moments just say, “Jesus, I don’t know what I need in this moment, but you do, not my will but yours be done.” The cry from our heart, accepting the invitations of Christ to come close, and then asking earnestly for what we need can be such a powerful way to pray. Or to simplify it the cry, the yes, and the ask. We might not have Jesus' smartphone number but we do have a direct line from our heart to His. Prayer is more than just talking with God; it is our heart reaching out and connecting with His. To a God who doesn’t just know our problems but one who has lived them and loves us even when we fail. There are or will be times when we don’t feel Jesus when we pray. The simple truth is that prayer is never a waste and I promise that praying, like this every day, will dramatically change the direction and quality of your life. Know I am praying for all of you and struggling alongside you I hope that this and all things bring us all closer to Heaven.

Knights of Columbus 1429 – Leave no neighbour behind

The Knights of Columbus Sarnia 1429 want to thank our sponsors who have helped us raise and exceed our goal of

$2500 this year to support local food banks in Sarnia with a total of $3884 to date. Your contributions and support are

an encouraging sign of the good our community can do together.

When we first started the fundraiser campaign, there were signs locally that our community needed help. Now it

appears our community needs our help more than ever. "Lambton County Social Services General Manager Valerie

Colasanti told county council that they've seen a 200 per cent increase in the number of homeless individuals since

the pandemic started."

BlackburnNews.com - Lambton County approves hiring of homelessness prevention supervisor

If you're in a position to help, please donate online. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit food banks in the City

of Sarnia, where the greatest need exists. Cash donations can help fund emergency funds to help families and individ-

uals who are short on rent or behind on utilities. Which in turn can relieve stress families and individuals are facing

during these difficult times.
