Law enforcement activity is one of the high-risk
professions and is seen to have the highest
degree of extreme conditions and professional stress.
The performance of official tasks by Officers of Internal
Authority have a negative impact on their state of mind and
leads to:
• the increase of depression;
• aggressive behavior;
• the increase in number of suicides;
• gross violation of the discipline;
• worsening of interpersonal and family relations
• and so on.
THE CURRENCY OF THE TOPIC
The purpose of the research: to study the factors of mental disadaptation of law-enforcement authorities.
159 officers of Internal Authority in the Arkhangelsk region
have been examined.
Middle age - 34,3±7,6 y. (М±σ)
METHODS OF INVESTIGATION
• For investigation of social factors:
a questionnaire which reveals socio-demographic features;
• For investigation of professional factors:
a questionnaire which reveals peculiarities of stress made by the
profession;
Mac-Lin’s scale of organizational stress;
• For investigation of individual psychological factors:
multi-level personal questionnaire of the «Adaptability»;
Dembo-Rubinstein’s test in the modification by A.M. Prihozhan;
projective technique of «non-existent animal»;
Ch. Spilberg’s test in the modification by Yu. A. Hanin;
Copying test by R. Lazarus, S. Folkman;
The methodology of copying-strategy of overcoming stress by D. Amirhan;
brief reference test by V.N. Buzin;

of organizational stress (31,4%) (McLean test); the experience of
stress (with a feeling of fear of death) in professional situations
(21,1%);the existence of situations connected with threat to life
(21,0%); business trips to the North-Caucasian region
(20,4%);frequent stressful situations in the activity (11,9%);
immediate threat to health (11,2%); working harder and more
intensive than usual (11,2%); injury during work (9,9%)

Marital status No family: single (22,5%), divorced (8,0%); no children
(27,2%), more than 3 children (6,6%).
Education Secondary education (10,5%), professional education (36,8
%), higher education in the system of officer-training school
(5,9%).
Social environment The tendency to limit the social contacts, the orientation of
the communication in a narrow circle of people (18,9%).

self-esteem (24,1%) (acc to methodology Dembo-
Rubinstein); regular use of alcohol (92,7%); Smoking
(50,7%) (questionnaire); low rates of mental abilities
(15,2%); high personal anxiety (10,7%) (an anxiety test by
Spilberg); non-adaptive copying-strategy (6,0%) (a test by R.
Lazarus, a copying-test by D. Amirhan).

CONCLUSIONS
1. 1/3 of the members of the law enforcement authorities have the signs of mental disadaptation.
2. The following factors influence the development of psychological disadaptation of staff:
• Professional (the type of professional activities, working conditions influence, work experience);
• Social (the absence of a family and children, having 3 children or more, low educational level);
• Individually-psychological (personal resources, psychopathological symptoms, behavioral deviations)
